Lead Python Engineer (FastAPI, RL Gym)

You will design, build, and optimize scalable APIs, collaborate with researchers and engineers, and deliver high-quality backend services to support reinforcement learning experiments and simulations. Prior RL Gym experience is not mandatory but would be a plus.Commitments Required: 8 hours per day with an overlap of 4 hours with PST. Employment type: Contractor assignment (no medical/paid leave)Duration of contract: 3 months, possible extensionLocation: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey, MexicoInterview: Technical Interview with live coding challenge focused on Python and FastAPI (60 mins)What does day-to-day life look like?Design, build, and maintain FastAPI-based services for experimentation workflows and simulation environmentsCollaborate with ML engineers to expose APIs for training, evaluation, and benchmarkingWrite efficient, production-grade Python code with a strong emphasis on scalability and maintainabilityTroubleshoot performance issues, optimize pipelines, and ensure smooth deployment of applicationsRequirements8+ years of professional experience in Python development, including 3+ years of hands-on expertise with FastAPI for building scalable, high-performance backend systems4+ years of team leadership experience, managing and mentoring teams of 5 or more developers to deliver high-quality, maintainable codeProven ability to review code, provide constructive feedback, and merge PRs to ensure consistency, reliability, and adherence to engineering standardsStrong track record of identifying and mitigating risks early, coupled with a deep sense of ownership and accountability across the full software development lifecycleExpert-level knowledge of FastAPI (experience with frameworks such as Flask or Django is beneficial, but FastAPI expertise is required)Hands-on experience in designing and maintaining RESTful APIs, implementing asynchronous programming, and managing the complete API lifecycle from design to deploymentSolid understanding of software engineering best practices, including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and scalable design patternsFamiliarity with NumPy and Pandas; exposure to PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plusGood to have: Experience with SQL and familiarity with Reinforcement Learning (RL) environments such as OpenAI Gym, Gymnasium, or Stable BaselinesBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related fieldBenefitsWork in a fully remote environmentOpportunity to work on cutting-edge AI projects with leading Tech companies
