This position will be an elevation point for daily operational tasks, ongoing stacks projects, and other front desk and building support areas.Responsibilities Provide routine library and university directional and operational support at the Library Services desk. Perform routine circulation functions by checking out, renewing, and returning library materials and equipment using the ALMA Library Management System. Assists with library patrons' requests for book renewals, holds, searches, lost books, and fine disputes. Advise and assist in the use of library catalog searches in absence of a Library Research Assistant (LRA). Assists with the re-shelving and organization of library items and supplies and continues projects or tasks that have been assigned by supervisor to support circulation or stacks functions. These tasks will be related to material organization to ensure the collection is accessible to library patrons.Provides support to the Public Safety & Facilities department while scheduled. May assist with, but not limited to, head counts, securing items in our Lost and Found, or evaluating an issue to the appropriate department. Responds to and investigates reports of security problems, in the absence of Public Safety & Facilities staff. Contacts University Police to report emergency situations and aids Public Safety & Facilities department staff and students.Provides work direction and trains student employees. Monitors student worker attendance and provides feedback to supervisor. Follows and supports current library policies and procedures; provides suggestions for policies and work procedures based on improvement opportunities.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:This position requires a high school diploma and four years of experience in a customer service environment. Appropriate college coursework may substitute for the required experience. Preferred QualificationsPrevious customer service experience in a fast-paced environment is highly preferred, but not required. Similarly, previous library experience is preferred, but not required.Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree. Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S. SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed: (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree; (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree; (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree; (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
