We are committed to maintaining the highest safety standards and providing comprehensive training for our operational roles.The OpportunityWe are seeking dedicated individuals to join our Train Crew as Locomotive Drivers. This is a pivotal, safety-critical role essential for the safe operation of our heritage trains and for providing an engaging experience for our passengers. We welcome both qualified Drivers and new volunteers eager to undertake a rigorous traineeship. This role demands commitment to learning, strict adherence to our operational procedures, and a high level of responsibility.Key Responsibilities & DutiesSafely operate locomotives and railcars in accordance with the DRR Rulebook, operational procedures, and all safety regulations.Conduct pre-departure inspections and ensure mechanical readiness of rollingstock.Collaborate effectively with the Train Guard and other operational staff.Respond appropriately to signals and instructions from qualified personnel.Maintain vigilance and situational awareness during all operational movements.For trainees: Participate in an intensive training program, gain practical experience under direct supervision, and successfully complete all required assessments.Adhere strictly to all DRR safety directives, including ensuring only qualified personnel perform operational tasks and ignoring instructions from non-qualified individuals.Anticipated Impact & Why Volunteer with Us: As a Locomotive Driver, your role is absolutely fundamental to the Don River Railway's mission and operations. Capable of heavy lifting. All successful candidates undergo a National Police Certificate check and a Working with Vulnerable People Check (Registration to Work with Vulnerable People in Tasmania). All costs covered by DRR. A current Driver's Licence (C) is required.
