This posting is for temporary assignment opportunities. Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking candidates to fill temporary assignments for Nutrition and Wellness Specialist. There are currently two 6-month limited-term assignments. These positions require the incumbents to possess a valid certification as a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

This position provides technical assistance, training, and support to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and schools in Los Angeles County to develop, expand, implement, and evaluate health and wellness policies and practices that advances whole child health using the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the FollowingKnowledgePrinciples of nutrition, coordinated school health, local school wellness policies, and federal, state, and county laws and regulationsTechniques and resources utilized in assessing and evaluating school community health and wellness needs Basic budgetary principles Principles and techniques of organization and administration Applicable state and federal laws and regulations and program procedures and guidelines related to coordinated school health, wellness, and nutritionFundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, and Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreementsCompetencies:

A bachelor’s degree in nutrition science, dietetics, health education, human development, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Experience: Two years of experience implementing nutrition, health, or wellness strategies, intervention, and programs in a pre-k through 12th grade school setting. Additional Requirements:

Certification as a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) is preferred. A valid California Driver’s License and the availability of private transportation or access to reliable transportation between job sites is required. Some positions in this class may require oral and written skills in a second designated language.
