Job Description

The Material Engineer, Facilities Management background, will oversee the planning, procurement, and management of materials across various FM projects within the United Arab Emirates. This role includes collecting quotations from suppliers, conducting negotiations, coordinating with the Procurement Department for issuing Local Purchase Orders (LPOs), and supporting the selection of appropriate materials. The Material Engineer will research the market periodically to determine material cost levels and the availability of suitable suppliers. The role also involves carrying out bid analysis and preparing technical and commercial comparison sheets to support informed decision-making.About the RoleThe Material Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement, and management of materials across various FM projects.ResponsibilitiesProcurement Coordination:Collect quotations from suppliers and conduct negotiations to secure the best terms, including discounts and favourable payment conditions.Prepare inquiries to suppliers when necessary or provide procurement with required supplier details, material specifications, and BOQs for inquiry preparation.Coordinate with the Procurement Department for issuing Local Purchase Orders (LPOs).Assist or guide the Project Engineer in selecting suitable suppliers for requested items.Market Research & Analysis:Periodically research the market to determine material cost levels and availability of suitable suppliers.Carry out bid analysis and prepare technical and commercial comparison sheets for decision-making.Recommend cost-effective solutions while ensuring quality compliance.Evaluate material properties and characteristics to ensure they meet project specifications and design requirements.Inventory & Material Management:Monitor material usage and maintain accurate inventory records.Ensure proper storage, handling, and movement of materials at all sites.Optimize inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess stock.Compliance & Standards:Ensure all materials meet contractual, statutory, and organizational standards.Verify that suppliers comply with FM company policies and project requirements.Coordination & Reporting:Liaise with project teams, FM engineers, and other departments regarding material requirements.Coordinate between project sites and suppliers where necessary related to inquiries and material requests.Prepare regular reports on material usage, procurement status, and cost analysis.Assist in forecasting material needs for upcoming FM projects.Continuous Improvement:Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve procurement processes, and enhance operational efficiency.Implement best practices in material handling, storage, and procurement workflows.QualificationsB.Sc. in Engineering from a recognized institution.Experience in Facilities Management Industry.Must have a minimum experience of 4-6 years as a Material Engineer in a reputed FM company.Implement the Quality management system at site/project.Required SkillsStrong knowledge of procurement processes, material specifications, and inventory management.Ability to conduct bid analysis and prepare technical and commercial comparison sheets.Excellent negotiation, communication, and coordination skills.Ability to optimize material usage, control costs, and support continuous improvement initiatives.Preferred SkillsExperience with advanced procurement software.Familiarity with sustainability practices in material selection.Pay range and compensation packageCompetitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
