Accountant

Role OverviewAs an Accountant, you will be responsible for revenue recognition and cost of sales under US GAAP, along with related account reconciliations and reporting to the finance manager in Japan. You will support statutory audits, assist with local tax filings, and ensure compliance across multiple reporting standards. This role involves close collaboration with global teams, including shared services in India and local teams in Japan, as well as external auditors and tax advisors. You will also contribute to finance systems transformation and process improvements. This is a remote/hybrid position in Japan.

We will only consider candidates currently in Japan and are not offering relocation assistance at this time. About The RoleEffectively communicate and collaborate with global teams in English while ensuring accurate and timely revenue recognition in line with US GAAP (ASC 606). Prepare or review GAAP conversion adjustments from US GAAP to Japanese GAAP and calculate corresponding cost of sales to maintain alignment with revenue recognition. Support statutory audits under Japanese GAAP by preparing necessary documentation and addressing auditor queries.

Collaborate with the shared services team in India on transactional processes and month-end close, and partner with the local sales and legal teams in Japan to validate revenue arrangements in sales contracts. Reconcile general ledger accounts including deferred revenue and accrued expenses (Cost of Sales), and generate revenue reports for internal and external stakeholders. Assist in preparing and submitting local tax filings in Japan with external tax advisors, and contribute to global finance system transformation and improvement initiatives, enhancing accounting workflows, internal controls, and financial reporting while participating in ad hoc projects.

About YouYou should have 2 to 5years of experience with corporate accounting and tax filing including coordination with external tax advisors. Yoy should have great interpersonal skills and can build effective relationships across cross-functional teams in both English and Japanese. You should be self-motivated, thrive in fast-paced environments, and excel at prioritizing to meet tight deadlines. You should be proactive problem-solver with experience in accounting systems, ideally including system transformation projects.
