Position OverviewThe Director, Risk Management, oversees FedEx Freight’s global insurance, risk-financing, and loss prevention programs, ensuring comprehensive protection of company assets, people, and reputation. This leader designs and administers insurance coverage across property, casualty, liability, and self-insured programs while developing enterprise risk mitigation strategies aligned with the CFO’s financial governance objectives. Reporting to the VP, Treasurer & Investor Relations, the Director partners with Legal, Operations, and Internal Audit to evaluate risk exposures, manage claims, and optimize total cost of risk across the organizationEssential Job Duties/ResponsibilitiesInsurance & Risk FinancingDirect insurance placement, renewals, and policy administration for all business linesEvaluate and recommend risk transfer or retention strategies to optimize total cost of riskOversee claims handling and coordinate with Legal on litigation strategyEnterprise Risk Management (ERM)Partner with Internal Audit and SOX to integrate enterprise risk reporting and controlsMaintain corporate risk register and ensure alignment with company objectivesAnalyze risk trends and emerging exposures to inform executive decision-makingGovernance & ComplianceDevelop risk management policies and procedures consistent with FedEx governanceOversee broker and vendor performance; ensure adherence to ethical standards and contract termsPrepare quarterly risk reports for executive management and the Audit CommitteeLeadership & CollaborationLead and mentor a team of Risk Management Analysts and support staffPartner cross-functionally with Treasury, Legal, and Operations to manage insured and self-insured exposuresServe as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on insurance coverage and risk strategyDisclaimer: This description outlines the role’s general nature and key responsibilities; it is not an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications neededQualificationsEducation:Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, business, or related field requiredMBA, CPCU, ARM, or CRM designation preferredExperienceMinimum of ten (10) years of progressive corporate risk management or insurance experienceProven record managing complex property and casualty insurance programsExperience negotiating global insurance renewals and managing self-insurance or captive structuresFamiliarity with freight, logistics, or transportation industries preferredKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesStrong understanding of insurance markets, risk financing, and claims managementExcellent communication and negotiation skills with brokers, insurers, and executivesAnalytical expertise in loss modeling and risk analyticsLeadership ability to influence decision-making across Legal, Operations, and FinanceProficiency with risk management information systems (RMIS)Job ConditionStrategic and high-impact role with exposure to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
