Location: Hamilton, ONEmployment Type: Full-Time, PermanentIndustry: Manufacturing / EngineeringPosition SummaryThe Intermediate Mechanical Designer is responsible for preparing detailed designs, drawings, calculations, and cost analyses to support engineering projects. This role involves working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of projects while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to design standards.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed designs, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOM) based on project specifications using SolidWorks CAD software.Review drawings for accuracy, materials, and manufacturing sequencing; implement revisions for final review.Apply engineering principles to system designs, ensuring projects meet schedule, cost, and quality requirements.Collaborate with electrical, procurement, applications, quality, and manufacturing teams to integrate systems and meet project goals.Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders through field visits, customer meetings, and design reviews.Support production by interpreting engineering drawings and specifications for the shop floor.Design components based on sketches or verbal concepts.Estimate materials, costs, and create Bills of Materials as required.Qualifications & ExperienceCollege Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.3–5 years of mechanical engineering and design experience in a fabrication or assembly environment.Experience with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and engineering documentation.Proficiency in SolidWorks and strong attention to detail in design, calculations, and documentation.Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within North America (occasional international travel possible).Skills & CompetenciesStrong problem-solving and analytical abilities.Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.Positive attitude, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities.Working ConditionsPrimarily office-based, with exposure to shop floor or site environments as needed.Frequent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional bending, stooping, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).Frequent computer use, including design and documentation tasks.
