Posts 1192 & 1573 Medical Scientists, Red Cell Immunohaematology LaboratoryFull Time – 1 Permanent & 1 TemporaryNational Blood CentreThe IBTS is currently recruiting 2 full-time, permanent & temporary Medical Scientists based in the Red Cell Immunohaematology Laboratory Department, National Blood Centre.The Red Cell Immunohaematology Laboratory (RCI) located at the National Blood Centre provides a specialist red cell serology service for hospital transfusion laboratories in the Republic of Ireland. The RCI laboratory provides a 24/7 referral service for extensive pre-transfusion and antenatal referral services for approximately 56 hospitals nationwide.The role of Medical Scientist is to participate in implementing a medical laboratory service that supports the clinical needs of the patients.Participate as a member of a skilled team and assist in the provision of an efficient and effective immunohaemathology service in accordance with documented laboratory procedures.Essential Criteria:• Candidates must have, or be eligible for, full Membership of the Academy of Clinical• Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM) or registered with CORU.• Experience in the area of blood transfusion• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to work in• a team environment.• Must demonstrate flexibility to work in a demand driven environment, enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to co-operate• Good computer skillsDesirable Criteria:• Experience of reference red cell immunohaematology (investigation of complex red cell serology) desirable but not essential as full training will be provided to all successful candidates.• Appointee must demonstrate experience of working in a GMP/GLP environment.• Problem solving and skills of deduction. Ability to make rational calm decisions. High level of commitment to tasks undertaken in quality environment.• Experience of working out of hours in a blood transfusion laboratory desirable but not essential as full training will be provided to all successful candidates.• Knowledge of ISO15189:2012The salary scale attached to the post is the Medical Scientist scale €44,331 to €73,667 (incl. LSI) pro rata per annum.
