Boat Refugee Foundation (BRF) is looking for an assistant who can support the Medical Coordinator in leading the medical programme on Lesvos. Please read on!Where will you work?Boat Refugee Foundation provides medical and psychosocial (emergency) aid and stands up for the rights of people seeking refuge. We take action where systems become inhumane and compassion is lost. Since 2015, we have been working in various locations at the borders of Europe.What will you be doing?The medical team on Lesvos consists of experienced doctors, nurses and other medical professionals. The focus of the medical programme is on providing primary and emergency healthcare. The Medical Assistant provides quality emergency medical care to people on the move in the refugee camp on Lesvos, with a fast-changing medical team. They are a stable factor in the often rapidly changing volunteer team. In addition to working a couple of medical shifts per week, the medical assistant will be working closely with the medical coordinator to manage the pharmacy, organise capacity building activities and coordinate tasks for medical volunteers outside of the medical shifts.You Have The Following ResponsibilitiesKeep the pharmacy neat and orderly so that everyone can find the items needed for medical shifts and ensure the pharmacy in the clinic is always well stocked;Maintain the list of required medication in consultation with the medical coordinator and medical advisor;Work as shift coordinator at least 3 shifts per week and in the absence of the medical coordinator take over agreed tasks for the smooth running of the clinic;Take over tasks of the medical coordinator in their absence;Coordinate additional tasks of the medical volunteers, in addition to medical shifts;Contribute to optimising the work of the medical team;Plan and schedule simulation training for the volunteer team.Required Knowledge, Experience And Skills We Are Looking ForA medical degree;At least 2 years of work experience in a clinical setting. Preferably including experience of medical work abroad or experience in programmes related to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, tropical medicine or mental health.Ability to make independent medical decisions;Willingness to take on a wide range of medical and non-medical responsibilities from time to time;Teamwork and ability to cope well with changing working hours;Excellent communication skills, both oral and written in English;Highly flexible and stress resistant;Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a broad spectrum of people;Strong negotiation and organisational skills;Creativity and ability to work with limited resources;Eligible to live and work in an EU country;EU drivers licence B.
