We collaborate with diverse stakeholders – including local partners, universities, governments, and international organizations – to operationalize One Health solutions that strengthen global health security. Position OverviewWe are seeking a Molecular Biologist to provide scientific and technical expertise in support of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) and the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS). This position supports WRAIR’s biomedical research mission, advancing research initiatives and strengthening global health partnerships.The work will be performed via telework and at various Government or partner locations, including U.S. and host nation installations, local hospitals, surveillance sites, and forward laboratories across the AFRIMS AOR. Beyond Thailand, AFRIMS maintains active projects and workspaces in the Philippines, Cambodia, Nepal, Laos, Vietnam, and Australia, which may also serve as places of performance.Location: Multiple sites – USA, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Australia,Employment Type: Regular Full-timeFLSA Status: ExemptEssential Job FunctionsConduct molecular and cellular biology experiments in support of biomedical and infectious disease research programs.Perform DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, sequencing preparation, and cloning to support surveillance and diagnostic studies.Develop, optimize, and validate molecular assays and laboratory protocols to meet project objectives and quality standards.Collaborate with AFRIMS and partner laboratories to analyze and interpret experimental data, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and scientific integrity.Prepare and maintain detailed laboratory records, reports, and technical documentation in accordance with WRAIR and AFRIMS procedures.Assist in the management of biological specimens, reagents, and molecular databases, maintaining proper inventory control and biosafety standards.Support the implementation of surveillance studies, including the setup and sustainment of molecular testing at partner and field laboratories.Ensure compliance with all applicable biosafety, biosecurity, and ethical research regulations governing laboratory work.Participate in collaborative meetings, providing technical input and data summaries to Principal Investigators (PIs) and project stakeholders.Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, publications, and presentations summarizing research findings.Necessary Skills and KnowledgeProficiency in core molecular biology techniques, such as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), DNA/Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) extraction and purification, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, molecular cloning, and CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing.Familiarity with microscopy and flow cytometry techniques, depending on the research focus.Ability to work with biological databases and interpret genomic or proteomic data.Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a closely related field is required for entry-level positions.                                                                  Experience: Entry-level positions may require 1-2 years of laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques, either through academic research, internships, or work experience.
