Position SummaryThis role leads the safe, compliant, and efficient treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous and mixed waste at a large, highly regulated industrial site. The Hazardous Waste Operations Manager oversees day-to-day operations, ensures adherence to all applicable regulations, and drives continuous improvement across processes, equipment, and team performance. This position is central to maintaining high standards of environmental stewardship, operational excellence, and workforce safety.Key ResponsibilitiesOperational LeadershipOversee all hazardous and mixed waste treatment, storage, and disposal activities at the facility (landfill operations handled by a separate team).Determine appropriate treatment pathways, develop schedules, and ensure waste is processed safely and in full compliance with requirements.Maintain treatment systems, storage structures, and associated equipment in coordination with Maintenance.Compliance & SafetyEnsure all operations align with internal safety policies and meet regulatory requirements across federal, state, and local agencies (e.g., EPA, OSHA, NRC, state health and environmental authorities).Uphold and enforce established procedures, licenses, and permits.Identify operational gaps and implement improvements to enhance reliability, safety, and efficiency.Team ManagementRecruit, train, and develop a capable operations team; set clear expectations and provide coaching, performance reviews, and corrective actions when necessary.Foster collaboration with on-site and off-site departments including operations, transportation, business development, accounting, and field services.Budget & PlanningDevelop and manage annual operational and capital budgets for assigned areas, ensuring responsible cost control.Support cross-functional planning and communication to align with broader site objectives.Incident & Emergency ResponseRespond to on-site emergencies and support incident reporting, investigation, and follow-up actions.Serve as Acting Site Manager when designated.QualificationsExperience & EducationDemonstrated experience managing hazardous waste operations within an industrial or highly regulated environment.At least 5 years of experience in industrial safety and regulatory compliance.At least 5 years of supervisory or managerial experience with responsibility for budgets and cost control.Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.Core CompetenciesStrong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance.Detail-oriented with the ability to interpret technical data, procedures, and regulatory documentation.Effective leadership skills with the ability to guide teams, resolve personnel issues, and cultivate a positive work culture.Capable of analyzing and solving complex operational challenges in dynamic situations.Proficient with email, word processing, spreadsheets, and research tools; comfortable using web-based operational systems.
