Overview: The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for processing high-volume, multi-state payroll — primarily for California employees and union groups. This role requires strong attention to detail, solid Excel skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. While prior payroll experience is preferred, candidates with strong numerical aptitude and analytical thinking will also be considered and trained.Key Responsibilities:Process weekly payroll (most union payroll processed on Mondays).Manage and resolve payroll-related inquiries from branches and employees.Upload payroll files into J&E (approx. 90% of files are uploaded; remaining require manual entry).Identify and correct payroll file errors before submission to the overseas processing team.Ensure accurate payroll processing for California employees (including complex pay and compliance scenarios).Detect and manually correct system-generated errors.Calculate and apply garnishments as needed.Generate and export payroll reports into Excel; combine data using PivotTables and VLOOKUPs to identify trends and discrepancies.Perform payroll audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.Requirements:Education: Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience: 1–2+ years of payroll experience preferred; candidates with strong numerical and analytical skills will be considered and trained.Technical Skills:Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables & VLOOKUPs required).Ability to handle high-volume payroll (25,000–35,000 employees).Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.Systems: Experience with J&E, Dayforce, or ADP preferred.Preferred Skills:Dayforce payroll system experienceCertified Payroll experienceUnion payroll experienceMulti-state payroll experienceHigh-volume payroll backgroundExperience in construction or related industries
