The department has an authorized strength of 931 sworn officers and 145 communications officers supported by 201 civilian employees with the responsibility of providing law enforcement services to approximately 1,000,000 residents within an area of 437 square miles.Applicants must pass a series of tests and interviews prior to selection as employees. Once selected, individuals must complete academy requirements, and if successful, continue to field training assisted by veteran officers (PO Master or Corporals).
