Postdoc position in neutron scattering and vibrational spectroscopy studies of perovskite materials for energy applications

Then apply for this postdoctoral position!About The Research ProjectHalide perovskites (HPs) are an emerging class of highly interesting photoluminescent materials, with possible utilization in advanced optoelectronic devices, such as energy efficient solar panels and light emitting diodes (LEDs). A critical challenge in this field pertains to understanding the nature and role of atomic-scale (local) structure and dynamics, which underlie the photophysical properties of these materials. Experimentally, these structural and dynamical properties can be vigorously investigated with neutron spectroscopy (INS and QENS), but a formidable task is to study the behavior of the materials under conditions that mimic those in operating devices, such as under photoexcitation. This postdoc project focuses on the use and development of experimental methodologies and neutron techniques for the study of local structure and dynamics in HPs, especially under operationally relevant conditions, with a view towards their usage in technological applications. The postdoc will be part of a new collaborative project between researchers at Chalmers University of Technology and the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Sweden, and ISIS Neutron and Muon Source in the U.K.About UsThe postdoc will be based in the Division of Energy and Materials at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. Here, the Karlsson group focuses on characterization of structure and dynamics in “functional” materials, with a view towards their implementation in energy-relevant technologies, such as LEDs, solar cells, batteries and fuel cells, and for catalysis. The research is mainly experimental in nature, and the group is highly experienced in the use and development of techniques at large-scale neutron and photon sources, vibrational spectroscopy, and optical techniques. Typically, the work is carried out in close collaboration with other leading research groups, in Sweden and in several other countries, which provide complementary expertise in materials synthesis and/or computer simulations.QualificationsWe are looking for a highly motivated person with a background in neutron spectroscopy on solid-state materials. Expertise in vibrational spectroscopy (Raman and infrared), especially from time-resolved experiments, or in measurements of photoluminescence, is an asset.Applicants must hold (or be relatively soon to finish) a PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline. The PhD degree should awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.Contract terms The position is temporary full-time employment for two years and will support science programs funded by Chalmers University of Technology and the Swedish Research Council. The position may be extended up to a maximum of three years, depending on a successful project and renewed funding.The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment.
