About SerayaSeraya Special School is a new, purpose-built centre in Malaysia empowering children and young adults with special needs through education, therapy, vocational training, and pathways to employment.Backed by MIJ Hub, a Singapore-based non-profit with 14 years of impact, three centres, and social enterprises serving hundreds of neurodivergent individuals. Seraya represents the next chapter in our journey toward inclusive education across the region — a dedicated hub for children with higher needs, supporting every stage of growth from early childhood to adulthood.About the Role: The School Principal serves as the overall leader and administrator of Seraya School, ensuring the effective delivery of educational programs, operational efficiency, staff development, and community engagement. The role demands a visionary educator and strong administrator who can balance academic excellence with operational discipline, uphold Seraya’s inclusive and child-centered ethos, and ensure compliance with Malaysian education standards.Key Responsibilities1. Leadership & Strategic DirectionDevelop and implement the school’s mission, vision, and long-term strategic goals in alignment with Seraya’s core values and philosophy.Lead, inspire, and motivate staff to uphold high standards of teaching, learning, and holistic student development.Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and student-centred school culture that promotes safety, respect, collaboration, and continuous growth.Oversee and plan school operations, ensuring efficiency in day-to-day functioning, resource allocation, and programme execution.2. Academic & Teaching ExcellenceEnsure curriculum alignment with the Malaysian National Curriculum and Seraya’s internal learning framework.Observe lessons, review lesson plans, and monitor teaching outcomes to ensure quality delivery.Mentor teachers through feedback, coaching sessions, and professional development planning.Encourage innovation and technology integration in teaching.3. Student Welfare & Behavioural GuidanceCreate a nurturing and inclusive environment for students of all abilities.Oversee the implementation of student behavioural and emotional support programs.Counsel students and parents when necessary to support emotional and academic growth.Ensure the school environment is clean, hygienic, and safe.4. Staff Management & DevelopmentOversee the recruitment and induction of all teaching and non-teaching staff.Conduct performance appraisals and identify individual development needs.Organize and facilitate internal training or professional learning opportunities.Promote teamwork, respect, and accountability among staff.5. Financial & Operational ManagementDevelop and manage the annual school budget responsibly and efficiently.Approve expenditures in line with financial policy and ensure proper documentation.Oversee procurement, logistics, and maintenance of facilities and resources.Ensure financial transparency and operational sustainability.6. Policy Implementation & ComplianceEnforce school policies aligned with Malaysian education regulations and Seraya standards.Ensure all operations comply with MOE guidelines, safety protocols, and internal policies.Prepare reports, audits, and documentation for external authorities and the Board.7. Stakeholder Communication & ReportingPrepare and present school performance reports to the Board and management.Engage parents, community partners, and external stakeholders effectively.Maintain open communication with teachers, parents, and students to build trust.8. School Culture & Event ManagementOversee and guide all major events, assemblies, and co-curricular activities.Foster school spirit through meaningful initiatives that align with Seraya’s values.9. Crisis & Risk ManagementServe as the key authority during emergencies, ensuring calm and decisive leadership.Establish preventive safety protocols and risk management procedures.10.
