Join our Policy, Strategy and Advice team and play a key role in reframing the relationship between the Department and First Nations peoples. This exciting opportunity focuses on developing policy, research and advice that supports agreements with First Nations and drives the future co-stewardship of Country.You’ll work alongside Traditional Owners and departmental staff to craft policies and procedures that uphold First Nations rights, embed cultural values, and deliver meaningful outcomes. As our Principal Project Officer, you'll be at the heart of agreement-making that supports strong partnerships with First Nations peoples across Queensland. You'll provide trusted advice to stakeholders, government and industry, helping shape policy and strategic direction that delivers meaningful outcomes.This is a highly collaborative role — building respectful relationships with First Nations people and Traditional Owners, supporting projects from concept to delivery, and ensuring outcomes align with First Nations rights and aspirations.You'll also provide specialist policy advice, including interpretation of the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and Cultural Heritage legislation, while preparing briefings, submissions and key program documents.If you're strategic, relationship-focused and ready to make a difference — we'd love to hear from you.You Will Bring What We're Looking For Proven experience developing policy and practical policy options to address complex issues — ideally within agreement-making or a similar environment. Strong project skills, with the ability to design, monitor and evaluate complex policy initiatives from start to finish. A solid understanding — or the ability to quickly acquire — knowledge of relevant legislation and the broader policy landscape supporting the rights and aspirations of First Nations peoples. Experience building and maintaining productive, respectful working relationships, particularly with First Nations people. Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to influence, negotiate and engage diverse stakeholders.
