Only candidates who submit their application with all the required documents in a single attachment will be considered for this opportunity.Position SummaryUpon successful completion of a recruit training program, the successful candidate(s) will work under the supervision of a Company Officer and perform the following duties: fire ground operations, technical rescue, hazardous materials, emergency medical care, public education/relations, communications, pre-incident planning, fire safety inspections, administrative duties, fire station maintenance, fire apparatus and equipment operation and maintenance.QualificationsTo be considered for a career as a Richmond Hill Firefighter you must:Be at least 18 years of ageBe legally eligible to work in CanadaBe actively involved in and serve your community Have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or Ontario approved equivalent Possess NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II certifications or grandfathering equivalentProvide proof of valid First Aid, CPR Level C from a recognized Organization/ProviderPossess a valid unrestricted Ontario DZ Driver’s License, or able to obtain one no later than six (6) months from date of hirePossess a satisfactory Ontario Driver’s License Abstract, valid within 3 months of date of hireCommunicate clearly and effectively in English (verbally and written)Demonstrate the City’s corporate values of service, collaboration, care, and couragePossess superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively as a member of an effective and professional teamPossess the ability and willingness to follow instructions promptlyPreferred Skills/KnowledgePreference will be given to candidates that possess all or some of the following additional qualifications:NFPA 1035, Standard on Fire and Life Safety EducatorNFPA 1031, Standard for Fire InspectorCompletion of Primary Care Paramedic Program, or equivalentCompletion of a post-secondary education degree or diploma in a related fieldCompletion of a recognized trade certificationService in a paramilitary organizationConsiderable volunteer or career Firefighter work experienceLeadership CompetenciesBuilds people and culture Cultivates open communication Demonstrates personal leadership Navigates and leads through complexity and change Shapes the future NotesPrior to hire, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of credentials, a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check as well as a successfully completed York University Fitness and Medical Test, valid within 6 months of the offer date.
