Job Description

We are hiring a Product Owner for a 6-month contract, with the potential to transition to a full-time permanent role. The position is hybrid, with three on-site days per week in Downtown Toronto.Product Owner – Workday (Intermediate)We are looking for an Intermediate Product Owner who has practical Workday experience and a strong ability to bridge business needs with system capabilities. In this role, you will guide enhancements to our Workday ecosystem, oversee the product backlog, and partner with teams across the organization to deliver solutions that streamline operations and elevate the overall user experience.What You’ll DoBusiness Requirements & AnalysisEngage with HR, Finance, and other supported areas to understand and document their operational needs.Map existing processes, identify inefficiencies, and propose improvements or configuration updates within Workday.Lead discovery activities such as interviews, workshops, and process reviews with key stakeholders.Convert business requirements into actionable user stories, detailed specifications, and acceptance criteria.Product Ownership & Delivery ExecutionTake ownership of the Workday enhancement backlog, ensuring items are prioritized based on business impact and strategic goals.Partner with developers and technical leads to clarify requirements and support the refinement of upcoming work.Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.Review completed work to verify that functionality aligns with business expectations and acceptance criteria.Coordinate and support user acceptance testing by preparing test scenarios, validating outcomes, and assisting with deployment readiness.Workday Platform SupportProvide hands-on assistance with configuration updates, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization of assigned Workday modules (e.g., HCM, Financials, Prism, Accounting).Serve as a subject matter resource for business teams, offering guidance on Workday capabilities and best practices.Stay up to date with Workday releases, assess the relevance of new features, and help guide adoption strategies.Support tasks related to security, data quality, reporting, and other platform maintenance activities.Collaboration & CommunicationAct as a connector between business teams, IT, and external support resources to ensure alignment and smooth delivery.Clearly communicate progress, risks, timelines, and impacts to stakeholders at all levels.Provide documentation, training, and ongoing support to users to help them adopt new features effectively.QualificationsMust Have3–5 years’ experience in a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or related role.At least 2 years of hands-on experience working directly with Workday—whether through configuration, administration, or implementation tasks.Familiarity with Agile frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban.Strong understanding of HR or Finance processes, depending on the Workday modules supported.Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce clear, high-quality documentation.Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.Nice to HaveWorkday certifications relevant to supported modules.Experience contributing to process redesign, system optimization, or digital transformation initiatives.Knowledge of Workday reporting tools such as Calculated Fields or Advanced Reporting.Experience using Agile project tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps.Soft SkillsStrong analytical and problem-solving mindset.Highly collaborative and comfortable working with cross-functional teams.Flexible and able to take on different responsibilities when needed.Able to explain technical concepts in a way that resonates with non-technical audiences.Self-driven with a focus on continuous improvement.
