SLACAN Industries Inc. is Canada's largest designer and manufacturer of Poleline Hardware, which includes a full line of Transmission and Distribution products. We service the OEM market including the agricultural, mining and other industries. Our in-house processes include forgings, hot / cold stampings and weldments. Position OverviewTo provide inspection and testing of raw materials to finished products according to Engineering and/or customer drawings and specifications as it relates to quality standards and procedures. Responsibilities • Inspection of raw materials, purchased parts, in-process and/or finished goods in accordance with  Engineering and/or customer drawings and specifications.• Prepare inspection reports, NCR/CAR reports either on computer or manually, as required.• Operate testing equipment in lab to determine if product meets requirements.• Maintain system of calibration for measuring instruments and gauges.• Provide technical support to Engineering for failure analysis, testing and prototype development.• Check quality of work of small custom structural fabrication team.• Interpret and understand applicable Engineering drawings, specifications and standards.• At receiving inspection, maintain the established inspection procedures when examining manufactured and purchased components.• Other duties as assigned by the Company.Knowledge and Experience •      3-5 years of quality assurance and detailed quality inspection experience in steel manufacturing.•      Post-secondary diploma in Metallurgy or related field.•      Ability to interpret and understand applicable Engineering drawings, specifications and standards.•      Knowledge of materials (particularly steel) as required.•      Strong English verbal and written communication skills.•      Able to use measuring instruments and gauges and have knowledge of calibration systems.•      Good mechanical aptitude to learn laboratory testing and metallographic equipment as required for production testing and design/prototype tests.•      Must have working knowledge of manufacturing processes including forging, heat treating, machining and assembly.•      Familiar with special processes including galvanizing, painting and coatings.•      Understand the principles and adherence of the Quality Management system under IS0 9011:2008.•      Ability to work with minimal supervision is required.•      Self-starter and self-motivation is essential.This position is primarily an afternoon shift role. However, shift assignments may vary based on operational needs. The current shift schedules are as follows: • Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. • Afternoon Shift: 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. • Split Shift (on rotation): 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m
