Job Description

Talen Energy is seeking a Relay Test Technician for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES). Provides the expertise to perform complex, intricate work activities within the Relay Test department with limited supervision. This includes, but is not limited to, performing surveillance tests, routine and emergency maintenance, calibrations, troubleshooting, modifications, and inspections of nuclear plant protection relays, alarms, and control circuitry systems. Conducts pre-and post-job briefs and ensures work is completed with high quality. Notifies the appropriate supervisory personnel of conditions outside normal.Installs, tests, calibrates, maintains, diagnoses and remedies improper performance of equipment and systems used for protection, data acquisition, monitoring and control of generating station electrical equipment.Performs work under normal and emergency conditions.Coordinates Relay Test activities on assigned projects consistent with the Technician’s training and experience. Assists in the evaluation of new installations against design intent and/or standards. Develops test plans. Assists in design reviews.Interfaces directly with representatives from Engineering, System Operations, Radiation Protection, Project Management, switchyard/utility personnel and contractors relative to the installation, calibration, operation and maintenance of protective relay and control equipment.Advises, instructs and assists other employees in Relay Test and other departments in the maintenance, calibration, repair and proper functioning of station protection and control systems, including safety practices and, as applicable, radiological, quality control, and other NERC, OSHA and NRC regulations.Prepares and completes required reports, forms, work orders, work requests, test records, maintenance histories, Condition Reports (CR’s), etc. in accordance with established procedures.Exercises proper care and use of test equipment and instruments and adhere to SSES Maintenance & Test Equipment (M&TE) program.Maintains thorough knowledge of and follows applicable rules associated with the company's permit and tag system, safety rule book, environmental regulations, NERC regulations and OSHA regulations; , along with radiological, quality control, and other NRC regulations as applicable and pertinent to the work being performed. Practices safe work methods and uses required personal protective equipment in accordance with the station’s safety procedures.Participates in the development of Relay Test procedures and work instructions.Participates in all aspects of prescribed training and development programs, ongoing training conducted for upgrading and refreshing of skills and safety, health and environmental training.Performs work package walkdowns and reviews.Assists in the training and development of employees in the relay test line.Participates in Lessons Learned discussions, Root Cause discussions, troubleshooting plans, etc.Assists operations, engineering and station management to interpret the indications and intelligence provided by various protective relays and the inter-related functions by those relays and to differentiate between equipment malfunctions and relay malfunctions. If required, performs Relay Test duties as an in-plant team member during Emergency Plan events/drills.Maintains computer skills to support Relay Test data entry and retrieval. Develops, revises and downloads programmable instrumentation software programs. Maintains calibration records and records of test equipment used for the calibration of plant protection relays/meters and performs calculations required to complete assigned work.Maintains a technical working knowledge of relays/meters under test. Utilizes and interprets Instruction Owners Manuals and/or technical literature in support of work.Conducts or assists in conducting pre- and post-job briefs.Holds Clearance Orders for the performance of Relay Test work.Assists in the development, implementation, preparation (Factory Acceptance Test) and installation (Site Acceptance Test) of Relay Test projects and modifications.Operates utility vehicles and ATVs.Install and maintain fiber-optic cable and equipment used on relays.Attends meetings as required.Maintain unescorted access for SSESAssist in work package construction.Maintain Relay Test’s controlled prints. procedures and IOM’s (stick file) used for Relay Test planning and trouble shooting.May work from heights on scaffold or from man-lifts, following station safety procedures.Maintain station Voltage Regulators on various systemsPerforms such other Relay Test related duties as assigned or as necessary.Reads and interprets drawings, prints and control wiring diagrams. Where necessary, makes sketches and diagrams to facilitate work and/or instruct others.Keeps assigned repair shop, tools and equipment in good working order; maintains good housekeeping and safety in working area.MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:Relay Test Technician TraineeGraduate of a two-year Electronic Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology (or Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering w/Electrical Experience) degree program from a school/program which has been accredited by a nationally recognized accreditation agency. Successful completion of Engineering Aide exam may be substituted for degree with internal candidates.Must have a valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator's license.Successful completion of the Ramsay Corporation Electrical Test Technician Screening Exam.Ability to obtain unescorted site access for SSESRelay Test TechnicianGraduate of a two-year Electronic Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology degree program from a school/program which has been accredited by a nationally recognized accreditation agency.
