LondonJob SummaryWe are currently looking for a Researcher, Device Data to join our Scientific Data & Insight Function within the Safety & Surveillance group.This is a full-time opportunity, on a 12 month fixed term contract/internal move/loan or temporary promotion basis. The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites.We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 12 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.Who are we?The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.The central mission of the Safety & Surveillance portfolio is to protect the public by appropriately identifying, assessing and managing the risks associated with medical products.The group is responsible for delivering robust vigilance processes that can detect, monitor and evaluate safety signals across the product lifecycle.The Scientific Data and Insight function plays a key role in support of this mission. Its purpose is to develop and provide expertise to enhance the analytic capabilities of the Safety & Surveillance group. Activities include supporting the group with epidemiological expertise and assessments, identifying and addressing data gaps, and developing novel methods for pharmacovigilance. The team also engages in research, often in collaboration with external partners and academic institutions, regularly publishing papers in the scientific literature.Monitoring the safety of medical devices is a complex challenge, similar to pharmacovigilance, but complicated by diverse device types, underreporting, and fragmented data. In depth understanding of epidemiological principles and statistical concepts and experience of applying this in practice. Experience of research using health related data sources. Competence in using programming tools such as R, Python, Julia, or SQL to characterise or analyse health data. Proven ability to independently produce well-focused scientific reviews and presentations.
