An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Science Technician to join the Science team at Kirwan State High SchoolAs a Science Technician, you will contribute to the effective and efficient management of the school science department by providing technical and administrative support to the Head of Department, teachers, and laboratory staff.This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. This role involves technical and administrative tasks that contribute to effective teaching and learning outcomes.Key Responsibilities IncludePreparing, distributing, and setting up scientific materials and equipment for practical teaching laboratory use.Maintaining a safe and organised environment in science classrooms, storerooms, and laboratories.Safely managing chemical hazards and laboratory waste in compliance with departmental guidelines.Providing quality advice to science teaching staff on technical components of the curriculum, including STEM initiatives.Assisting with field trip preparations, record keeping, and inventory management.This role would suit someone who is passionate about science, enjoys problem-solving, and thrives in a collaborative environment.About YouThe following traits would be beneficial:Experience working in a laboratory or similar technical environment.Strong organisational and time management skills.Knowledge of chemical handling and safety procedures.Ability to work independently and anticipate needs within a science department.Interest in promoting STEM initiatives and engaging students in science pathways.Why Join UsKirwan State High School offers a supportive and dynamic work environment where staff are valued for their contributions to student success.
