The company recently raised $50 million in Series B funding, led by Keith Rabois at Khosla Ventures, bringing its total funding to more than $80 million.This is an existing vacancyAbout The RoleWe are looking for a highly technical Senior Accountant to help scale our accounting function. This role will own core accounting operations while also supporting multi-entity consolidations, complex revenue recognition, cross-border tax coordination, and audit readiness.You will work closely with the VP Finance to ensure Spellbook’s financial reporting infrastructure can support a high-growth global SaaS business. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex accounting problems, building scalable processes, and operating in a fast-moving startup environment.ResponsibilitiesFinancial Close & ReportingOwn key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processPrepare and review general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedulesSupport the preparation of consolidated financial statements across multiple entitiesMaintain accounting records in accordance with ASPE / GAAP and internal accounting policiesImprove close efficiency with a target of monthly financial statements prepared within 10 business daysMulti-Entity Accounting & ConsolidationManage accounting for multiple legal entities across jurisdictions (Canada, US, and future international entities)Prepare intercompany entries, eliminations, and consolidation adjustmentsMaintain documentation and processes supporting transfer pricing and intercompany transactionsAssist with foreign currency accounting and entity-level financial reportingRevenue RecognitionSupport accounting for complex SaaS revenue arrangements, including:multi-year contractsenterprise agreementsdiscounts and contract modificationsbundled offerings and add-onsEnsure revenue recognition aligns with relevant accounting standards and internal policyWork closely with Sales and RevOps to ensure contracts are structured and recorded correctlyAudit & ComplianceSupport annual financial statement audits, including preparation of audit schedules and working papersCoordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other external stakeholdersEnsure compliance with corporate tax filings, indirect taxes, and regulatory requirementsHelp maintain strong internal controls and documentationTax & Cross-Border CoordinationAssist with Canadian and US corporate tax complianceCoordinate with external advisors on international tax, sales tax, and transfer pricingSupport documentation and accounting treatment for cross-border transactionsProcess & SystemsIdentify opportunities to automate and improve accounting processesBuild scalable documentation and accounting policiesPartner with finance and operations teams to improve data integrity across financial systemsOther responsibilities as requiredQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA designation strongly preferred4–7 years of accounting experience, including public accounting or high-growth tech companiesStrong understanding of:financial reportingrevenue recognitionconsolidationsintercompany accountingExperience supporting financial statement auditsFamiliarity with multi-entity or international accounting environmentsAdvanced Excel / financial modeling skillsExperience with accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, etc.)WHY JOIN SPELLBOOK?Embrace autonomy and accountability in a flexible work environment; we focus on outcomes and empower you to determine how to get the job doneAccess our company-paid group benefits for you and your family, with $1,000 towards mental health supportDisconnect during our holiday closure and take advantage of our generous time off policies throughout the yearEnjoy monthly paid meals, an annual wellness allowance to support your well-being and parental leave top-ups as your family growsSecure your stake in our success; you’ll receive competitive stock option grants as a pivotal early employeeInclusive Hiring at SpellbookWe are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive candidate experience. The salary range listed for a position reflects the expected total wage range for the role—including base salary and on-target commissions, where applicable—and may span multiple career levels. Final compensation is determined during the interview process based on factors such as experience, skills, scope, and role level. In addition to base salary and applicable commissions, total rewards may include equity, health and wellness benefits, and other company programs.
