Senior Photonics Engineer

Seeking a highly skilled Senior Photonics Design Engineer to join an innovative team developing next-generation integrated photonic systems. You will play a key role in designing, modeling, and optimizing advanced photonic components and subsystems used in high-performance optical technologies. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-moving R&D environment and enjoys working closely with multidisciplinary teams.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design and simulation of integrated photonic devices, including waveguides, modulators, couplers, resonators, and nonlinear photonic structures.Develop and optimize photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for performance, manufacturability, and scalability.Perform electromagnetic and optical simulations using tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, Photon Design, or equivalent.Collaborate with internal teams and external fabrication partners to define process flows and ensure successful device fabrication.Analyze measurement data, validate models, and iterate designs to achieve performance targets.Contribute to architecture development for complex photonic systems including comb sources, lasers, and optical interconnects.Document designs, simulation results, and test reports clearly and systematically.Provide technical leadership within the photonics group, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to strategic technology roadmaps.Required QualificationsPhD in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or a related field.5+ years of experience in photonic device design, PIC development, or integrated optics.Strong expertise with photonic simulation software (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, FDTD/FEM tools).Deep understanding of integrated photonics platforms such as silicon photonics, SiN, InP, or similar.Experience working with foundries and familiarity with fabrication processes and PDKs.Proven ability to interpret experimental data, debug complex photonic devices, and refine designs.Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional technical teams.Following your application Jake Phillips, a specialist recruiter will discuss the opportunity with you in detail.
