Join our Development Studio Nordic team in Espoo as a Software Engineer and help us build and support the next generation of tools for a cleaner, smarter world!About The RoleAt Fortum, you’ll join our agile research & development team, collaborating with product owners and stakeholders throughout the software lifecycle. You’ll play an important role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust systems that support both our planning and trading operations. Your work will help ensure these systems are scalable, reliable, and aligned with the constantly evolving needs of our business.In this role we are looking for a new team member to join us in our corporate head office in Espoo, there we work in a hybrid model and the team is present at the office 2-3 times a week.About YouWe’re seeking a proactive and independent engineer with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. You take ownership of your work and value the freedom to manage your own time and effort.Required Skills & ExperienceStrong problem-solving mindset, a proactive can-do attitude, and a continuous learning mindset - always eager to explore new technologies and approaches to tackle evolving challenges.Experience building and maintaining business-critical applications1+ years of hands-on experience in backend software development (e.g., C#, Java, Python or similar)Experience with client-server architectures, backend API development, and system integration solutions.Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databasesFamiliarity with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps practicesFluent in English (our working language)Relevant university-level education in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related fieldsAdditional Valued SkillsExperience with Machine LearningUnderstanding of optimization theory and algorithms, including deterministic and stochastic approachesWhile the role focuses on backend systems, frontend development experience with modern frameworks like React or Angular is highly valued as we move towards more integrated full-stack solutionsExperience managing cloud resources (e.g., AWS Lambda / Azure Functions, AWS S3 / Azure Blob Storage...) using Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and Azure Bicep / ARM templatesFamiliarity with data streaming conceptsKnowledge of security best practices, IAM/CIAM, and integration patternsParticipation in hackathons, programming contests, or open-source projectsWe offer youA dynamic, supportive team environment where everyone’s contribution is valuedReal responsibility and the opportunity to work on impactful, diverse projectsOpportunities for professional growth and learning in the energy and trading sectorsNetworking with top professionals across the companyAt Fortum, we believe in a better future and want to be involved in shaping it.
