The purpose is to enable seamless in-store experiences, ensure operational reliability, and lead the transformation of legacy store systems into modern, API-driven, and AI-augmented platforms.The incumbent will play a pivotal role in enhancing developer productivity, embedding AI and LLM capabilities across engineering workflows, and ensuring system scalability and resilience across hundreds of stores.Job DescriptionThe Senior Engineering Manager will lead the end-to-end design, development, and delivery of enterprise store systems. The focus will be on building high-performing, reliable, and scalable retail applications that empower store associates, optimize inventory accuracy, and elevate the customer experience.Key ResponsibilitiesLead engineering for Store Inventory Management (SIM), POS, Clienteling, and RFID applications.Drive the modernization roadmap for legacy store systems into cloud-native, API-first, and microservices architectures.Partner with product, business, and architecture teams to define and execute retail transformation initiatives across stores.Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of store systems across all retail formats.Oversee and optimize integrations via Metl, ACE, Kong Gateway, and IBM Gateway.Champion engineering excellence — coding standards, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and DevSecOps maturity.Leverage AI and LLM solutions to improve developer productivity, test coverage, and incident diagnostics.Ensure smooth integration of POS and SIM with upstream (RMS, RPM) and downstream (OMS, ERP, CRM) systems.Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams fostering innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and architecture leaders to ensure end-to-end delivery quality and engineering agility.Knowledge, Skills & ExperienceJob Experience15–18 years of total experience in software engineering, with at least 8+ years leading enterprise-scale retail technology programs.Strong hands-on or leadership background in Store Inventory Management (SIM), Point of Sale (POS), Clienteling, and RFID ecosystems.Experience in implementing, customizing, or modernizing POS systems (Oracle Xstore, Jumpmind, or similar) and integrating with ERP, OMS, and CRM platforms.Exposure to Oracle Retail applications such as RMS, RPM, and RESAProven experience in large-scale transformation programs — modernizing monolithic store systems into microservices, APIs, or event-driven architectures.Proficiency in integration technologies: Metl, ACE, Kong Gateway, IBM API Gateway, and related middleware.Strong understanding of system performance tuning, observability, and scalability engineering in high-transaction retail environments.Working knowledge of AI and LLM technologies, with practical use cases applied in development or quality engineering.Demonstrated success leading engineering, QA, and DevOps teams using agile and outcome-based delivery frameworks.Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), containerization, and DevSecOps practices.Required Leadership SkillsEngineering & Technical LeadershipProven ability to drive technical excellence, define coding standards, and enforce engineering quality across large distributed teams.Strong problem-solving mindset with hands-on understanding of store application performance, integration bottlenecks, and data synchronization challenges.Experienced in establishing engineering KPIs such as code quality, developer productivity, deployment frequency, and incident resolution time.Track record of building scalable engineering culture that values automation, reuse, and continuous learning.Transformation & Innovation LeadershipDeep experience in store systems modernization — POS migration, RFID enablement, SIM optimization, and omnichannel integration.Forward-looking leader who integrates AI/LLM and automation tools into engineering practices for speed and efficiency.Strong ability to convert business requirements into scalable technology architectures, balancing performance, security, and cost.Champions innovation through pilots, rapid prototyping, and co-creation with business and product partners.Stakeholder & People LeadershipExcellent communication and collaboration skills across business, product, architecture, and operations functions.Skilled at leading multi-vendor, multi-location engineering teams with clear accountability and delivery outcomes.Builds a culture of trust, empowerment, and performance; inspires teams to innovate and deliver measurable business value.Adept at influencing senior leadership on technology strategy, modernization roadmaps, and outcome-driven engineering metrics.
