As an Human Resources Supervisor in the Office of the Secretary (OS), you’ll lead a dedicated team supporting the full scope of human resources services for the Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DENR).
This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on management of key HR functions—including benefits, classification and pay, employee relations, onboarding, training, and compliance. Acting as a vital link between HR staff, leadership, and stakeholders, the HR Supervisor drives operational excellence, fosters workforce alignment with DENR’s mission, and ensures high-quality, solutions-focused service across the department.
Minimum QualificationsSix years of human resources experience; ORSix years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of human resources experience; ORA bachelor’s degree plus three years of human resources experience; ORAn advanced degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, industrial and organizational psychology, organizational behavior, or a Juris Doctorate plus two years of human resources experience. Experience Substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field.
The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. Designation as a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience. Job Duties: Job Duties and Other InformationSupervision and Operational Oversight:
Directly supervises a team of three HR personnel functioning as a one-stop-shop for assigned DENR staff, providing daily support, assigning workloads, setting priorities based on operational demands, and offering temporary coverage when necessary to maintain seamless service delivery. Policy Compliance and Personnel Management: Reviews and approves LaGov HCM personnel actions and employee leave requests for compliance with Civil Service Rules, agency policies, and employment laws; counsels staff on corrective actions and ensures accuracy and consistency in application of policies. Leave Administration and Benefits Guidance:
Monitors FMLA and parental leave logs for accuracy and compliance, provides detailed guidance on leave eligibility, benefits, and retirement options, and consults with the HR Manager on complex cases to ensure proper interpretation of regulations. Support for HR Leadership and Special Projects: Provides critical support to the HR Manager by resolving escalated employee or management issues, assisting with department-wide initiatives, and collaborating on projects aimed at improving operational efficiency and HR processes. Compliance and Benefits Coordination:
Completes all monthly and annual compliance tasks timely and accurately, monitors key deadlines, notifies leadership of required actions, and facilitates the Office of Group Benefits (OGB) annual enrollment process, including reporting, waiver tracking, and account verification.
