Job Duties: Job Duties and Other InformationServe as a Public Health Nurse in the Morehouse Parish Health Unit, providing nursing care across multiple programs including Immunization, WIC, Reproductive Health, Tuberculosis, and Infectious Diseases at clinics, community sites, shelters, and other designated locations. Assist physicians, Advance Practice Nurses, and other nurses with examinations, medical treatments, and counseling, while referring individuals and families to appropriate community resources.
Administer medications such as Spectinomycin, Zithromax, Rocephin, Bicillin, and provide immunizations; educate patients on medication use, side effects, and necessary referrals. Obtain comprehensive health histories and conduct nursing and developmental assessments including anthropometric measurements, interpreting deviations to plan and evaluate public health nursing interventions. Perform and interpret Mantoux skin tests; collect and analyze laboratory specimens for diseases such as TB, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis, and other infections; provide counseling, treatment, and follow-up care as needed.
Deliver health education to individuals, families, and community groups on preventive care, health risks, outbreak information, and emergency preparedness related to biological, chemical, and environmental threats. Participate actively in Continuous Quality Improvement processes to ensure nursing care quality through chart audits, performance evaluations, and adherence to public health competencies. Respond to public health emergencies including natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and incidents involving hazardous materials or terrorism, supporting community safety and health.
