Title: Summer Students - I.T.Start Date: May 1, 2026End Date: August 28, 2026Position Type: TemporaryPosition Open To: StudentsPosting OverviewThe Information Technology (I.T.) Summer Student will play a crucial role in supporting the I.T. Department by assisting with various networking, device management, and school-based technical support tasks. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The Summer Student will work alongside staff members and independently on assigned tasks. Responsibilities include:Verifying I.T. inventory of networking equipment, assisting with digital inventory records, and creating equipment tags;Installing and configuring network switches following documented standards;Troubleshooting network issues, including connectivity problems, hardware malfunctions, and configuration errors through use of diagnostic tools, analyzing network performance, and implementing solutions;Working with staff to investigate and expand the use of current networking tools;Assisting school based computer technicians with the completion of technical work orders;Troubleshooting device issues involving Windows laptops/desktops, iOS devices, and Chromebooks at school sites;Enrolling and configuring iPads in Microsoft Intune, including setup, assignment, and profile management;Staging equipment for disposal (e-waste pickup);Assisting with equipment deliveries and pickups as required.Qualifications/ExperienceMust be enrolled in a post-secondary education program in Networking or Computer Science (or equivalent) for the 2025-2026 school year; Must possess a valid G class driver's license and have access to reliable transportation. Travel will be required throughout the district.Other Key Skills & Knowledge:Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);Understanding of networking concepts and I.T. infrastructure;Experience with industry-leading networking would be considered an asset;Experience troubleshooting Windows, iOS, and Chromebook devices is an asset;Experience with device management platforms such as Microsoft Intune is an asset;Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, research and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team;Demonstrated ability to readily absorb and comprehend new information from formal and informal learning experiences.Position Effective Date & Length: Hours of work: 40 hours/week (32 hours/week during July and August)Rate of pay: $18.10/hourSupervision and Mentorship: The summer student will receive supervision and mentorship from experienced I.T. professionals within the department. They will be paired with a staff member who will provide guidance, support, and feedback throughout the duration of the assignment.
