Job Description

Role PurposeThe Tax Manager EMEA ensures compliance with VAT, customs, and trade regulations across the UK and EU, managing all aspects of indirect tax reporting, audits, and advisory. The role provides expert guidance on cross-border transactions, supports process automation, and partners with Finance, Supply Chain, Legal, and IT to embed tax compliance in business operations. By combining technical expertise and a proactive approach, the position safeguards the company’s fiscal integrity while driving efficiency and continuous improvement across the region.Key ResponsibilitiesVAT (Value Added Tax)Manage VAT compliance across UK and multiple EU jurisdictions, including review of VAT returns, EC Sales Lists, and Intrastat declarationsReview of reconciliation of group wide VAT accounts and the review of the data sources to ensure accuracy of reportingAdvise business units on the correct VAT treatment of complex cross-border transactions (e.g., intra-community supplies, triangulation, reverse charge) fully understanding the business structure and transaction/invoicing flowsLiaise with external advisors and tax authorities regarding audits, inquiries, and rulings, leading and/or supporting local finance teamsMonitor legislative changes in EU VAT law and assess their impact on business operationsSupport VAT automation and ERP system configuration to ensure accuracy in tax coding and reportingProvide training and guidance to finance, procurement, and sales teams on VAT procedures and best practicesCustoms & Trade ComplianceReview import and export customs compliance across European marketsWork with logistics and supply chain teams to ensure proper data to support accurate tariff classification (HS codes), valuation, and country-of-origin declarationsEnsure proper use of available customs authorizations (e.g., AEO, customs warehousing, IPR, OPR)Collaborate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and efficient customs clearanceMaintain documentation in line with customs record-keeping requirementsIdentify opportunities for duty relief or savings through trade agreements (e.g., EU FTAs)Support internal and external audits of customs proceduresCross-Functional CollaborationPartner with Finance, Supply Chain, Legal, and IT teams to ensure compliance and process improvementParticipate in system implementations or upgrades related to tax and customs modulesSupport any business operational changes, including functional changes, expansion projects, mergers, and acquisitions from an indirect tax and customs perspectivePerson Specification and Background5+ years of experience in European VAT and/or customs compliance within a multinational company or Big 4 consultancyIn-depth knowledge of EU VAT Directive and customs legislation (Union Customs Code)Experience managing indirect tax compliance in multiple EU jurisdictionsFamiliarity with ERP systems and data analysis toolsFluency in English; additional European languages are an advantageStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to interpret complex legislation and translate it into practical business guidanceExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsProactive approach to process improvement and automationAbility to work independently and manage competing prioritiesAdditional InformationOpportunity to work in an international environmentExcellent working environment with home office possibilitiesPrivate Medical Care
