Based in Powder Springs, GA, we’re committed to empowering our partners with reliable, efficient, and scalable logistics solutions.Position SummaryThe Transportation Specialist is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and optimizing the movement of goods and materials to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery. This role blends operational execution with strategic logistics management, carrier relations, cost analysis, and cross-departmental collaboration to support DPWagner’s fulfillment and domestic and international shipping operations.Key ResponsibilitiesTransportation Planning & CoordinationPlan, schedule, and coordinate inbound and outbound shipments to meet operational and customer requirements.Optimize routes and carrier utilization to minimize costs while meeting service-level agreements (SLAs).Manage daily shipment execution across multiple modes (LTL, FTL, parcel, air, and ocean).Carrier & Vendor ManagementSelect, negotiate, and manage carrier contracts and freight rates.Monitor carrier performance metrics (on-time delivery, claims, and cost per mile/kg).Build and maintain strong relationships with transportation providers and third-party logistics partners.Shipment Tracking & Issue ResolutionTrack shipments in real-time, proactively communicate updates, and resolve exceptions such as delays, damages, or customs issues.Serve as the liaison between warehouse, procurement, customer service, and carriers to ensure seamless delivery performance.Documentation & CompliancePrepare and maintain accurate transportation documentation, including Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, customs forms, and export declarations.Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, IATA, IMDG, OSHA, and other federal, state, and local regulations.Support audits and maintain documentation for regulatory and internal compliance.Cost Analysis & Continuous ImprovementAudit freight invoices, identify billing discrepancies, and process approvals for payment.Analyze transportation data and KPIs to identify inefficiencies, cost savings, and performance trends.Lead or contribute to process improvement and sustainability initiatives (e.g., load consolidation, route optimization, emissions reduction).Cross-Functional CollaborationPartner with warehousing, procurement, sales, and customer service teams to align logistics with business objectives.Support demand planning and inventory management through coordinated shipping schedules and accurate delivery timelines.QualificationsEducation:Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).Experience:2–5 years of experience in transportation, logistics coordination, or freight management.Proven experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and ERP software.Technical Skills:Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel expertise strongly preferred; Power BI or Tableau a plus).Familiarity with route optimization tools and shipment tracking software.Knowledge of domestic and international shipping regulations and documentation.Soft Skills:Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Customer service mindset and proactive approach to issue resolution.Preferred Qualifications:Professional certifications such as Certified Transportation Professional (CTP), Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD), or Certified in Transportation and Logistics (CTL).Experience with multimodal freight operations and sustainability initiatives.Experience with Mass Retail (THD, Walmart, Lowes, etc.), Shipping Systems, and StandardsWorking ConditionsPrimarily office-based with occasional visits to warehouses, carrier sites, or customer locations.Ability to sit for extended periods and operate computer systems for daily work.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experience ($65,000–$85,000 DOE).Annual performance-based bonus.Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.401(k) with company match.Paid time off, holidays, and tuition reimbursement for supply chain certifications.
