Job Description

Job Summary: As an Underwriting Service Rep I, you will be an essential part of the underwriting team, ensuring the smooth processing of policies and handling key administrative tasks. This position is designed to familiarize the individual with basic administrative and underwriting processes. In this role will focus on learning the fundamentals of policy processing, data entry, and general customer interactions while receiving close supervision and on-the-job training. Your responsibilities will include entering policies into the system, coordinating draft payments, and conducting telephone verifications with applicants to clarify important details. You will work closely with both applicants and agents, driving pending applications and requirements to completion. Your attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment will be crucial to your success. Key Responsibilities: Review applications to ensure they are complete and compliant with state regulations and company policies. Accurately enter application data into the system to ensure all information isup-to-date. Facilitate underwriting requirements by ordering and following up on medical records, Medicare verifications, and other necessary documents. Maintain digital records by keeping organized, up-to-date records for easy access and tracking. Process financial transactions accurately, handling payments and refunds. Draft professional correspondence withcarriersregardingpolicy replacements and other inquiries. Prepare policy amendments by reviewing andfinalizingthem beforesendingtoagents or insured individuals. Coordinate external requests by managing interviews, medical records, and payment processing to support underwriting. Communicate effectively by providing updates and resolving issues with agents, distributors, and customers. Identifyprocess improvements by recommending enhancements to improve procedures and workflows. Assistin system testing to ensure proper functionality. Provide guidance on underwriting by helping agents understand underwriting guidelines and processes. Collaborate with other teams to resolve issues. Meet service levels by ensuringtimelyprocessing of applications, final decisions, and policy mailings. Prioritize and organize work to manage tasks efficiently and meet deadlines. Assistwith mail and data entry by processing incoming mail and entering basic policy information. Shadow senior UWSRs to learn from experienced team members and develop key skills. Respond to basic inquiries by addressing low-complexity questions from agents and customers under supervision. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in business, finance, or a related field is a plus. Previousexperience in underwriting, insurance, or administrative roles is preferred. Proficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with underwriting software systems.
