Volunteer Fiction Writer (Pregnancy Support Novels)Role SummaryAs a Volunteer Fiction Writer, you'll create engaging, uplifting, and family-friendly short novels or serial stories specifically designed to help pregnant mothers pass time, relax, and feel supported during their pregnancy. Your unique contribution will provide much-needed escape, entertainment, and emotional comfort to expectant mothers, enhancing their well-being. This is a remote, flexible role where you can write on your own schedule.This project is a humanitarian support project designed to help pregnant mothers.Is this a paid position?This is an unpaid volunteer role, and we are unable to provide a stipend for data or other expenses. We understand if this doesn't fit your current needs.What will I receive for my work?Upon successful completion of your commitment, you will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation.Success in the PositionSuccess in this role means consistently delivering high-quality, error-free, and emotionally resonant fictional content that adheres to our organization's tone and thematic guidelines (i.e., stories should be positive, avoid undue stress or graphic content, and be generally supportive of the pregnancy journey). Success is also measured by the positive feedback and engagement metrics from the mothers who read your work, indicating that your stories are effective at providing a comfortable and enjoyable distraction.Fit Within the OrganizationThis volunteer role is integral to our Maternal Wellness Program. While our core services include educational materials and direct counseling, this role ensures we also address the crucial need for emotional and mental well-being through accessible, positive entertainment. Your stories become a direct, non-clinical resource that helps us achieve our overarching mission of supporting a healthy, stress-free pregnancy experience.ResponsibilitiesConceptualize and Outline compelling, positive, and emotionally resonant narrative arcs for short novels or serial stories, ensuring all content is appropriate for a pregnant audience (i.e., avoids excessive drama, graphic content, or themes that induce anxiety related to pregnancy or childbirth).Draft and Develop high-quality, engaging fiction, maintaining a consistent, warm, and accessible voice that aligns with the organization's mission of support and well-being.Self-Edit and Proofread all chapters and complete stories meticulously to ensure impeccable grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clarity before submitting them for review.Incorporate Feedback thoughtfully and promptly from the Editorial Coordinator to refine narratives, character development, and thematic focus to best serve the target audience.Adhere to Established Deadlines for chapter and story submissions to ensure a consistent, reliable release schedule for the expectant mothers.Qualifications for Volunteer Fiction WriterSkillsExceptional creative writing and storytelling skills with a clear, engaging narrative voice.Demonstrated ability to self-motivate, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.Proficiency in using standard word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs).ExperiencePrior experience writing or submitting fiction for publication is a plus.Previous exposure to or understanding of the themes, emotions, and general experience of pregnancy is highly beneficial.EducationNo formal education is required; however, a strong foundation in literature, creative writing, or a related field is a plus.Personal AttributesA genuine passion for supporting maternal mental and emotional health.Empathy, patience, and a positive outlook that translates into uplifting and comforting content.Important Application NotePlease review these terms before applying.
