KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional’s commitment towards empowering youth is seen through various initiatives including providing a condition-free business fund of RM5,000.

Sabah Barisan Information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir (pic) said this is to push youths to be more involved in business and new economic movements.

The Sungai Sibuga candidate said that this assistance is a form of strategic investment and not a political incentive.

He said economists, political and social science analysts feel that the social mobility of youths would only increase if they were given realistic startup capitals.

“They do not need pages of paperworks, they need the capital to start, and if we were given the mandate, we’ll make sure that the funds will reach their objectives and targets,” Suhaimi said.

Nowadays, youths depend on e-hailing jobs such as Grab not because they are interested, but because they have no capital to start up businesses of their own.

He stressed that the implementation of the business startup fund should focus on three key measures such as avoiding burdensome conditions, effectively targeting youth, and ensuring transparent and professional distribution.
