Man United's 'price to sign Wolves star Joao Gomes in January' is named in his native Portugal

Manchester United would have to pay around 50million euros (£44million) if they want to secure the January signing of Joao Gomes, according to Portuguese reports. The Red Devils have been monitoring their No 6 position in recent months, with Carlos Baleba, Conor Gallagher, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton all believed to be under consideration. But as Daily Mail Sport's Man United Confidential revealed just last week, Wolves midfielder Gomes is also being monitored. And according to the Lisbon-based Record newspaper, the Brazillian would be open to an Old Trafford switch in a deal that could appeal to the United hierarchy after splashing £230million in the summer. The 24-year-old penned a long-term contract when he moved from Flamengo to the Molineux. But with the Premier League basement boys at risk of relegation, Gomes may see the winter window as an ideal opportunity to jump ship. He would become the second Wolves player to join Ruben Amorim's side this season, after United snapped up his fellow countryman Matheus Cunha for £62.5million in June. As told in Confidential last week, United were priced out of moves for Baleba and Gallagher in the summer after spending their most of their budget bolstering their frontline. It is believed that Wharton and Anderson will be in high demand at the end of the season, with both also expected to be on the England plane to the World Cup, meaning United could be tempted to strike for a cheaper target in January. While Gomes is reportedly available for a cut-price deal, Gallagher may also be keen to move ahead of next summer's tournament having started most of his games for Atletico this season from the bench. The Brazillian has, however, consistently impressed in the Premier League since making the switch from his native Brazil in January 2023. Wolves pipped Olympique Lyon to his signature in a deal worth around £18.5million and, after an impressive first two years with the Black Country club, Gomes signed a five-year extension to his contract in April this year. He has also made 10 apperances for the Brazillian national side, but has not played any minutes since Carlo Ancelotti took the reigns in May.
