'She Was An Integral Part': RCB Coach Bids Farewell To Asha Sobhana

Asha Sobhana found a new home in UP Warriroz. The franchise splurged Rs 1.10 crore in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction to rope in the 34-year-old Kerala spinner. She was part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and picked up 17 wickets in 15 matches for the franchise.
“Asha was an integral part in 2024. Very happy for her. We have more or less got what we wanted, majorly in bowling and supplementing our retentions,” said RCB coach Malolan Rangarajan at the auction.
Meanwhile, the UP Warriroz welcomed Asha with a heartwarming post on social media.
“She reads batters like a book and strikes when it matters. Welcome to UP Warriorz, Asha,” the franchise wrote on X.

Asha became the eighth player to be signed by UP Warriorz at the mega auction on Thursday.
Before her acquisition, the franchise had already made several significant moves. They retained Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma using the RTM card for ₹3.20 crore and brought back England’s premier spinner Sophie Ecclestone for ₹85 lakh through another RTM.
The Warriorz also secured former Australia captain and star batter Meg Lanning for ₹1.90 crore, Australian opener Phoebe Litchfield for ₹1.20 crore, and Indian batter Kiran Navgire for ₹60 lakh via RTM. Additionally, they added all-rounder Harleen Deol for ₹50 lakh and pacer Kranti Gaud for ₹50 lakh through RTM.
Asha’s signing further strengthens an already dynamic squad as the Warriorz continue to build a well-rounded unit for the upcoming season.
