Sumit Nagal's Australian Open Dream Ends; Crashes Out Of Wild Card Play-Off After QF Loss

Sumit Nagal crashed out of the Australian Open Asia-Pacific wild card play-off after a straight-sets quarterfinal defeat to China’s Yunchaokete Bu in Chengdu on Thursday.
Nagal, seeded sixth, went down 2-6, 2-6 to the top-seeded Chinese player, ending his campaign in the wildcard event that grants the men’s and women’s singles champions direct entry into the 2026 Australian Open main draw.
The tournament, held from November 24-29 at the Sichuan International Tennis Centre, had already posed challenges for the Indian No. 1. Nagal’s participation was briefly in jeopardy after his initial visa application to China was rejected, forcing him to publicly seek intervention.
The matter was eventually resolved, allowing him to travel to the event.
