IPL 2026: Sherfane Rutherford joins Mumbai Indians after successful trade with Gujarat Titans

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], November 13 (ANI): West Indies power-hitter Sherfane Rutherford has been traded to the five-time champions Mumbai Indians from the Gujarat Titans ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL on Thursday announced that MI acquired Rutherford for a price tag of Rs 2.6 crore from GT after a successful trade. The announcement came hours after the Hardik Pandya-led side announced the arrival of India all-rounder Shardul Thakur. 'West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford is set to represent the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2026 season following a successful trade from the Gujarat Titans (GT). Acquired by GT for a fee of INR 2.6 crore, Rutherford will move to MI at his existing fee,' IPL said in a release. 'Thank you for the memories, Sherfane!' Gujarat Titans wrote on X after Rutherford's departure. In the last season, during Gujarat's run to the playoffs, Rutherford provided the much-needed fireworks in the middle. He finished with 291 runs while striking handsomely at 157.29. Rutherford, 27, has featured in 44 T20Is for the West Indies and holds the record for the highest sixth-wicket partnership in T20Is. He forged a 139-run stand with Andre Russell against Australia in Perth in February 2024. With over 200 T20 matches under his belt and 3,500-plus runs across the globe, Rutherford holds a reputation for lighting up scoreboards wherever he goes. Rutherford is known for his explosive batting style and for providing quick-fire cameos. His brute force with the bat is coupled with his ability to roll his arm and bowl pace deliveries, making him an all-round asset. Earlier on Thursday, MI confirmed the homecoming for seasoned all-rounder Shardul Thakur. The Lucknow Super Giants picked up the Mumbai-based all-rounder for Rs 2 crore as an injury replacement in the last season, wherein he featured in 10 games. Ahead of the 19th edition of the league, the all-rounder has been traded to the Mumbai Indians for his existing player fee of Rs 2 crore. (ANI)

US sanctions entities in Myanmar, Thailand for 'fraudulent investment scams online'

Washington, DC [US], November 13 (ANI): The United States has sanctioned five individuals and three entities located in Myanmar and Thailand, alleging their involvement in 'forced labour compounds that carry out fraudulent investment scams online', the Department of State announced in a statement on Wednesday (local time). The statement said, 'The United States sanctioned five individuals and three entities, located in Burma and Thailand, for their involvement in forced labour compounds that carry out fraudulent investment scams online.' Referring to the US government estimate, it added, 'Americans lost at least $10 billion in 2024 to Southeast Asia-based online scam operations, a 66 per cent increase from the prior year. Criminal syndicates across the region have increasingly exploited Americans online, threatening American prosperity.' The statement further added, 'This action supports today's announcement by the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Secret Service of the Scam Center Strike Force, dedicated to investigating, disrupting, and prosecuting scam centers and their leaders, with a focus on Burma, Cambodia, and Laos. The United States will continue to use all available tools to protect Americans from scams operating across the region and around the world.' A statement issued by the US Department of Treasury on Wednesday said, 'The Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), a Burmese armed group, along with four of its senior leaders, for supporting cyber scam centers in Burma that target Americans using fraudulent investment schemes. OFAC is also designating Trans Asia International Holding Group Thailand Company Limited (Trans Asia), Troth Star Company Limited (Troth Star), and Thai national Chamu Sawang, who are linked to Chinese organised crime and have worked with the DKBA and other armed groups to develop these scam centers. The revenue generated by scam center workers--who are often themselves victims of human trafficking--supports organized crime and allows the DKBA to finance its harmful activities.' (ANI)

Is Argentina Prepared For Life Without Lionel Messi?: 'Nobody Will Be Ready'

Argentina defender Nicolas Tagliafico has admitted "nobody will be ready" for Lionel Messi's retirement as speculation grows around a romantic Barcelona return. The Lyon full-back, currently on international duty, reflected on Messi's emotional Camp Nou visit and spoke about Argentina's World Cup ambitions while hinting at uncertainty over whether the Inter Miami star could play again for the Blaugrana. Few players have been closer to witnessing Messi’s enduring greatness than Tagliafico. As La Albiceleste prepare for their friendly against Angola, the Lyon defender spoke candidly about what Messi’s eventual farewell could mean for world football and why nobody, not even his teammates, can imagine the day he finally walks away. The 38-year-old's recent midnight visit to Barcelona’s newly renovated Camp Nou reignited talk of a short-term return to his boyhood club. The Inter Miami star, currently in the MLS off-season, shared an emotional post about "missing the place with his soul," leading fans to dream of one last dance in Catalonia. Tagliafico, though, admitted even Argentina’s dressing room remains uncertain about Messi’s next move or when the inevitable end will come. In an interview with Radio La Red, the former Ajax star spoke with both admiration and melancholy when asked about Messi’s possible retirement: "He’s been playing in Argentina for 20 years. It’s completely unusual. Nobody will be prepared for when Leo is gone. He’ll decide when he’s no longer there. Maybe once he stops playing, he’ll stay on the coaching staff or have some role with the national team." Turning to Messi’s surprise Camp Nou appearance, Tagliafico confessed that the squad were caught off guard by the images shared online — and admitted even he doesn’t know what the future holds for the World Cup-winning captain. "There was a huge fuss about the photo he took at Camp Nou because it was a surprise. I don't know what the situation is, because of the Beckham Law. He could go during the MLS break, but I honestly don't know what he'll do . It's not easy either, especially with the World Cup so close. I don't think it will be simple." The veteran full-back also discussed Argentina’s preparation for the 2026 World Cup, urging calm despite their success under Lionel Scaloni and downplaying their tag as favorites. "On a scale of 1 to 10, I think we're about a five," he said. "Not too little, not too much. We're taking it one step at a time, like in the last World Cup." He also reflected on the self-confidence and occasional arrogance that defines Argentina’s footballing culture: "We also seek it out, Argentinians, with that arrogance we have. Obviously, being world champions, we have to prove it, but that spice, that mischievousness, is also good, because in the end, they end up respecting us. They have to respect us. People know the calibre Argentina has today. We earned it with our effort. Sometimes there's a bit too much talk, but we’re fine, happy. If things are said, I don't know if it's anger or envy... Things are going well. We have to keep working." Tagliafico also addressed reports of a Finalissima match between Argentina and Spain, which could take place at Lusail Stadium in Doha - the same venue where Messi lifted the World Cup in 2022. "There’s talk and rumors, but nothing is confirmed yet. If it happens, it’ll be a great match. Spain is one of the best teams around right now. In the end, those kinds of competitive matches will show you how the team is doing, but it’s also just one game; it might not reflect what could happen at the World Cup. I’m lucky enough to have played in World Cups, and that changes everything. The first match is a different stimulus, different motivations. You might think, ‘If we beat Spain, we’ll be in a much better position.’ He cautioned that early results shouldn’t be overinterpreted: "On the contrary. We beat Italy in the preparation for Qatar and lost the first match. It makes a big difference. They’re a great opponent, that’s for sure. You can get a sense of their level, but it won’t change much for the World Cup." While Spain’s participation depends on their qualification route, Argentina are already looking to maintain momentum heading into 2026 with Tagliafico’s words serving as a reminder that even amid speculation about Messi’s future, the Albiceleste’s focus remains firmly on defending their crown.

Death penalty sought against Florida man arrested in child sexual battery

Florida will seek the death penalty against a man indicted in Hernando County on seven counts of sexual battery on a child and numerous other charges, Attorney General James Uthmeier and 5th Judicial Circuit State Attorney Bill Gladson said Wednesday. Nathan Douglas Holmberg, 36, was arrested last month and was indicted Monday on 25 counts. During a news conference Wednesday, Uthmeier and Gladson said multiple children are believed to be victims and that additional charges are expected to be filed in other counties. Uthmeier said the case involved the rape of a 3-year-old child and described it as “true evil.” Prosecutors will seek the death penalty under a 2023 state law that seeks to allow executions of people who commit sexual batteries on children under age 12. The U.S. Supreme Court, in 2008 case known as Kennedy v. Louisiana, barred the death penalty for people who rape children. Uthmeier on Wednesday acknowledged the U.S. Supreme Court ruling but said, “We believe that today’s Supreme Court should re-evaluate and reinterpret the law to allow this form of justice.” Earlier this year, Palm Beach County prosecutors said that they are pursuing the death penalty for two men accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl beginning when she was 6. Josue D. Mendez-Sales, 27, and Pablo N. Cobon-Mendez, 23, of West Palm Beach, were each arrested in July and are charged with two counts of sexual battery on a person less than 12 years of age. Both have pleaded not guilty.

Judge Adjourns Bello’s Trial, Schedules Cross-Examination of EFCC Witness

Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court on Wednesday adjourned the ongoing money laundering trial of the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to Thursday, November 13, 2025. The adjournment followed a request by the defence counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN), which was not opposed by the prosecution. Both parties agreed that the next sitting would allow the cross-examination of the sixth prosecution witness, Mr. Mshelia Arhyel, a compliance officer with Zenith Bank. At the resumed hearing, Arhyel presented details of transactions from the Kogi State Government House Administration Account between February 2016 and February 2018. He confirmed several deposits and withdrawals of ₦10 million each, totaling ₦1.09 billion as of February 2, 2018, all within the bank’s withdrawal limits. The witness stated that the first inflow into the account occurred on December 6, 2016, amounting to ₦74.378 million. He also identified multiple cash withdrawals in favour of one Muhammed Jamiu Salau, totaling ₦30 million, and noted other inflows from the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service. Under further questioning by the EFCC counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), Arhyel examined Exhibit R1, the statement of account (USD) of Wales Oil and Gas, confirming an overseas transfer of $11,000 on November 12, 2021, in the name of Farida Oricha. He also reviewed Exhibit P1 En Bloc, a USD domiciliary account statement of Aleshua Solutions Services Limited, where he confirmed debit entries linked to foreign exchange payments made to the American International School. At this point, the defence sought an adjournment to prepare for cross-examination, a request to which the prosecution agreed. Justice Anenih consequently adjourned the trial to Thursday, November 13, 2025, for continuation of hearing and cross-examination of the witness. At a previous sitting, Arhyel had testified that before 2023, there was no strict withdrawal limit as long as individual cheque amounts did not exceed ₦10 million. He reaffirmed that the total withdrawals as of January 31, 2018, stood at ₦707.267 million.

I talked to three women who asked for higher pay. This is what they got — and what they learned – Sun Sentinel

By Natalie Todoroff, Bankrate.com When Jessye Kass Karlin asked for a raise, she didn’t just need one person to say “yes.” She needed eight. A director of programs at a women’s shelter in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Karlin was in her mid-20s, making around $60,000 per year. She sought a $20,000 salary increase and a new title: executive director. “I sort of had that role already but didn’t have the title or pay to honor the work that I was doing,” she tells me. Karlin felt she was doing everything right, and then some. Before, the shelter had no formalized volunteer prep, so she created trainings focused on de-escalation tactics and dealing with trauma, as well as an official eight-hour onboarding process. During her tenure, Karlin also increased volunteer retention by almost 80% and boosted the shelter’s revenue. When it came time to ask the board for a raise, she came prepared with documents and a presentation that detailed everything she had accomplished. To get the promotion, she needed unanimous approval from all eight board members – only six gave the green light. They said she could change her job title, but they didn’t offer her more money. “It was frustrating,” Karlin says. “My impact felt so clear…. I did all the things I was supposed to do and exceeded expectations.” Asking for a raise can be uncomfortable for anyone, but it’s a pain acutely felt by working women. Only 36% of women say they feel comfortable asking for a raise, according to a recent survey from Glassdoor. That number is higher among men, at 44%. That doesn’t mean they aren’t asking. A study from the Academy of Management found that over the past two decades, women are negotiating their salaries more often, not less, than men. Still, women are earning less: Bankrate’s analysis of the latest U.S. Census data found that women earned 81 cents for every dollar men did. Plus, women are more likely to have been unsuccessful in negotiating a raise compared to men, Bankrate’s Financial Habits Survey found. Most working women won’t see equal pay before they retire, Bankrate analysis finds Three months later, Karlin went in front of the board again, this time with more evidence in her arsenal: “I didn’t threaten to leave, but I did say ‘I want this to be reconsidered.’” Her second ask persuaded the two holdout board members. For Karlin, what stood out was how much she felt she needed to plead her case, despite having already been working the job without the higher pay and different title for some time. Now in her thirties, Karlin runs her own talent consultancy agency, and she uses her experience to help younger women push through discomfort and craft their pitch. “We still often don’t get the permission to be proud of ourselves and advocate for the impacts that we’ve had,” she tells me. I spoke to two other women who asked for a raise to hear how they prepared, how it went — and what they learned. One woman tried to negotiate her salary. She lost the offer For Thalia Shehan, asking for more money resulted in a rescinded job offer. The former IT professional and Detroit resident had been looking to break into the field of robotics. With more than two decades of IT experience on her resume, robotics seemed like a natural fit for Shehan, as she’d always been inclined to learn how things work. “My motto is I break things to figure out how to fix them; I take them apart, figure out how they work and then I put them back together,” she tells Bankrate. By many measures, Shehan excelled in her new field. She was top of the class in her robotics and programmable logic controller course, where she would step in to help her fellow students with their projects when their instructor wasn’t available. During her coursework, Shehan was encouraged to get Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) certifications to make her a more competitive job candidate. The recommended number was 13, but she graduated with 28. Afterward, Shehan was offered a travel position as an automation engineer. She ran the offer by her job coach, who thought the compensation looked low compared to the industry standard. Shehan expressed gratitude for the offer and asked if there was room to discuss the salary. Shehan said she felt qualified for the entry-level position, but wanted the pay to reflect the added expectation that she’d be on the road much of the time. “It was going to require around 60% travel and disrupt my life a lot,” Shehan says. “If I’m going to do that, I need to make enough money to make it worthwhile.” Shehan responded to the offer email with a pitch for more compensation. “I gave them a bunch of different options,” Shehan says. “I said I’d be interested in maybe doing a review after 90 days or continuing education.” The company emailed back, rescinding her offer letter. Shehan followed up asking to be reconsidered at the original offer terms, but the company never responded. “It felt like a betrayal,” Shehan says. “I felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me.” Since, Shehan has redoubled her job search efforts and is focusing on expanding her professional network. Although it didn’t work out in her favor, she says the experience hasn’t dissuaded her from negotiating her salary in the future. “I feel like you’re just leaving money on the table if you don’t ask,” she says. And she’s right. Over the course of a 40-year career, women stand to lose an average of $585,000 in compensation due to the gender pay gap, according to Bankrate’s calculations. One woman simply wanted her fair share of the pie In Sabrina Fabbri’s case, she didn’t just ask for a raise, she had to fight for one. A 28-year-old medical device sales representative for spinal surgical screws, Fabbri spends her days in scrubs alongside neurosurgeons in the operating room. “It’s definitely a boys club,” she says. Fabbri and her male co-worker are compensated on a split commission basis: 30% of the territory’s commission went to her and 70% went to him. The split was mostly based on seniority; Fabbri’s co-worker had worked there longer, and helped establish much of the San Francisco Bay Area sales territory. When their contracts were up for renegotiation, Fabbri wanted a 50% slice of the pie. She went to her manager, prepared with a list of her accomplishments and ideas of how to grow the business. Fabbri’s work also spoke for itself: Ahead of the contract renegotiations, some of her surgeons and upper management advocated on her behalf for a raise. “[It] was not me telling them to do that,” Fabbri shared with me. “They did that independently.” She insists she wasn’t putting anyone down to lift herself up. Rather, she knew she could pursue other options and wasn’t afraid to relay that to her boss. “I basically threw a bottom line and told them, if it wasn’t 50% I would not be staying with the company.” Fabbri got the raise, but it came at a cost. Since the pay restructuring, she and her male co-worker split their territory’s commission equally, but she’s noticed a steep decline in his communications with her. Communication, according to Fabbri, is essential to their jobs; they need to be on the same page in terms of who can cover which surgeries and who will be on call over the weekends. “I don’t know if it’s directly related to this pay structure, but the timing does seem a little suspicious.” Where do women go from here? For now, the pay gap persists and will likely stick around. Bankrate’s analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data found that women and men won’t reach pay parity until 2059 — 33 years from now. It’s not just a statistic; for women in the workforce, the gender wage gap is a reality they face every time they clock in. Although asking for more didn’t work out for all three women I spoke to, when I asked if they regretted it, not a single one said they did. But your paycheck doesn’t need to be your only source of income. My colleague, Hanna Horvath, certified financial planner, shares her top five strategies on how women can out-invest the pay gap to level the playing field. Men might continue to make more in the office, but investing could very well be a woman’s game. ©2025 Bankrate online. Visit Bankrate online at bankrate.com. Government ‘riven with internal dissent’, says Swinney after Streeting briefing

The Labour Party is “riven with internal dissent”, Scotland’s First Minister has said, after briefings against the UK Health Secretary. Wes Streeting was forced to deny he was seeking to oust Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on Wednesday after a flurry of late-night briefings from Number 10 in defence of the leader’s job. The Health Secretary later urged the Prime Minister to sack those who had pointed the finger at him. Speaking to the PA news agency in Glasgow on Wednesday, First Minister John Swinney said people in Scotland will be “taken aback” by the internal wrangling at the top of the UK Government. “The Labour Government is riven with internal dissent,” he said. “When people voted for the Labour Government in the summer of last year, they expected them to come in and clear up the mess of the Tories. “Now, just over a year later, the Labour Government is riven with internal dissent and that’s because the Labour Government is not delivering for people in this country.” The First Minister added: “Their performance has been poor as a Government and that’s obviously reflected in Keir Starmer’s leadership. “What we are facing is a situation where our task in Scotland is made more difficult because we’re got a very poorly performing UK Labour Government who replaced a poorly-performing Tory Government. “It just goes to show that Government in London is damaging for Scotland and certainly people in Scotland will be feeling profoundly disappointed by the performance of the Labour Party after last night’s events.”

First Drive: Is the Changan Deepal S07 just another electric SUV?

Today, Changan has a presence in many countries across the globe and has its UK R&D facility in Birmingham, where it is tailoring cars like the Deepal S07 to UK buyers. Is it a car worth considering, though? We’ve been trying it out to see. Changan isn’t delivering the Deepal S07 with a bewildering number of specification options, either. In fact, there’s just one, which gets all of the equipment that the brand has to offer, ensuring In terms of charging speeds, this Changan’s 97kW limit is some way off the pace of rivals – the Skoda Enyaq will manage up to 175kW, in comparison – and that means you’re looking at a time of around 48 minutes for a 10 to 80 per cent charge. Again, the Skoda will do the same charge in around 28 minutes and some rivals are quicker still. It’s just a shame that the car’s ride spoils things. It feels simply too firm for UK roads and means that the car shakes and shimmies whenever it hits a lump or bump. Usually, adding a little extra speed can help this but in the Changan, things still feel quite unsettled. It’s just as well that the cabin remains quiet when you’re travelling on the motorway, mind you. That said, there are a few standout colours available to choose from in order to brighten up this EV, with an eye-catching orange acting as a great way to liven up the look of the Deepal S07. Space-wise, things are good too. There’s a completely flat floor at the back, so the person sitting in the middle of the car still has a decent amount of space. Changan has been on the fence in terms of boot space – it quotes both 445 and 510 litres in places – but either unit is somewhat behind key rivals. There is, however, a handy 125-litre ‘frunk’ storage area which is ideal for the cables. Changan also offers the Deepal S07 with a comprehensive seven-year or 100,000-mile warranty, which does go some way to quashing fears about this brand’s relatively unknown presence here in the UK. There’s plenty to like about the Changan Deepal S07. It’s well equipped for the money and brings a level of fit and finish which is likely to impress most buyers. While the lack of buttons might dent usability, the main screen is slick and comes with plenty of shortcuts to make things easier. But the car’s firm ride and lacklustre charge speed mean that it doesn’t quite come out on top. Changan has entered into a fiercely competitive segment with the Deepal S07 and though its price is attractive, it may need to offer a little more in order to really contend with the big-hitters.

Starmer condemns ‘unacceptable’ attack on Streeting amid leadership row

Sir Keir Starmer has condemned “completely unacceptable” briefings against Health Secretary Wes Streeting as a civil war erupted at the top of the Labour Party. Mr Streeting has categorically denied that he was plotting to oust the Prime Minister and called for those in No 10 briefing against him to face the sack. At Prime Minister’s Questions, Sir Keir said “any attack on any member of my Cabinet is completely unacceptable”. He said Mr Streeting was doing a “great job” as he highlighted his record on turning around the NHS. Sir Keir’s Commons appearance and a series of broadcast interviews by Mr Streeting followed a flurry of late-night briefing from No 10 and the Labour leader’s allies saying the Prime Minister would fight any leadership challenge – with Mr Streeting identified as a potential rival. Mr Streeting attacked whoever was responsible for the rumours, suggesting they had been “watching too much Celebrity Traitors”. He told Sky News: “This is just about the worst attack on a faithful I’ve seen since Joe Marler was kicked out and banished in the final. “It’s totally self-defeating briefing, not least because it’s not true and I don’t understand how anyone thinks it’s helpful to the Prime Minister either.” Mr Streeting said the briefings showed problems with the “culture in No 10”, although he added that “I’d just like to commend the briefer on at least picking on one of the men instead of the women in Cabinet” after a series of attacks on female ministers including Angela Rayner, Lisa Nandy and Bridget Phillipson. He told BBC Radio 4’s Today “There are people around the Prime Minister who do not follow his model and style of leadership. I can tell you, without having even spoken to the Prime Minister, what he thinks of briefing, what his reaction will be to the front pages and the broadcast bulletins overnight and the words I’m sure he would use are not suitable for a family show like this.” Asked if he should sack those responsible, Mr Streeting said: “Yes. But he’s got to find them first and I wouldn’t expect him to waste loads of time on this.” The late-night briefing came as part of a ploy to put down several senior Labour figures who were said to be “on manoeuvres” to supplant Sir Keir, according to media reports. No 10 has singled out the Health Secretary to warn off other potential leadership challenges from senior Labour figures including Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, the reports said. Mr Streeting said the briefings had “vindicated” calls from Labour’s new deputy leader Lucy Powell for a change in culture in Downing Street. He told Sky News: “I do think that going out and calling your Labour MPs feral is not very helpful. “I do think that trying to kneecap one of your own team when they are out, not just making the case for the Government, but actually delivering the change that we promised, I think that is also self-defeating and self-destructive behaviour.” Mr Streeting’s criticism of the culture within No 10 focused fresh attention of the Prime Minister’s long-time ally and chief of staff Morgan McSweeney. At Prime Minister’s Questions, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch challenged Sir Keir about the “toxic culture” in No 10 and asked him to say whether he still had full confidence in Mr McSweeney. “Morgan McSweeney, my team and I are absolutely focused on delivering for the country,” Sir Keir told her. “I’ve never authorised attacks on Cabinet members. I appointed them to their posts because they are the best people to carry out their jobs.” Meanwhile, the chairwoman of the Red Wall group of Labour MPs, Jo White, also denied that Mr Streeting was angling to replace Sir Keir, telling the Today programme: “I’m not aware of a single person in the Red Wall group who’s involved in this.” Ms White, a backbench MP, blamed the rumours on “a group of people who think they’re much cleverer than the rest of us, who spend their time selectively briefing journalists and stirring the pot”. Another Labour MP told the PA news agency “whoever thought it was clever wants shooting” and “there is clearly a cultural problem”. Challengers for the Labour leadership can initiate an election with the support of 20% of the party’s MPs, which currently means 80 nominations would be needed. Labour affiliates, including the trade unions, would be able to vote in the ballot alongside individual members.

Sir Grayson Perry ‘American Dream’ artwork acquired for nation

A print by Sir Grayson Perry has been acquired for the nation by National Galleries Scotland two years after being on display in Edinburgh. Titled The American Dream, the etching was on show in the Grayson Perry: Smash Hits exhibition which closed on November 12 2023. It has been purchased by patrons of the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) and can now be seen in the Modern One gallery in Edinburgh. The print, which is 239cm long, is described by NGS as an “epic satirical statement on our current culture wars”. Sir Grayson said: “This is a map of the US I made in response to my experiences there when filming my television series, Grayson Perry’s Big American Road Trip. “It toys with the common delusion that there is a clear and certain route out of our mess of feelings. “Stylistically, I was thinking of Cold War propaganda maps showing the ‘communist threat’ in the 1950s.” The Turner prize-winning artist said the figure at the top is Mark Zuckerberg, the “best known face of social media power”. Sir Grayson said: “When looking at the conflicts that swirl around social media, I find it illuminating to observe the scene like a psychotherapist might listen to a client. “When we experience a background hum of unfocused emotion, be it anxiety, sadness, fear, anger, we unconsciously look for something to attach it to. “Social media is brilliant at supplying us with issues to which we can attach our free-floating feelings.” When the opportunity to acquire one of the prints came up after the exhibition it seemed the perfect opportunityPatrick Elliot, NGS curator Sir Grayson has gone from taking evening classes in pottery to winning the Turner Prize and is also known for appearing in television shows including The Masked Singer earlier this year. Patrick Elliot, NGS chief curator of modern and contemporary art, said: “We didn’t have a work of Perry’s in Scotland’s national collection, but it was something we had long considered. “When the opportunity to acquire one of the prints came up after the exhibition it seemed the perfect opportunity. “Perry’s prints are enormous, hilarious, full of biting satire and gorgeously coloured and detailed. “We all loved The American Dream, as with so much of Perry’s work it is hilarious but bang on. “The feedback we got from visitors to the exhibition was hugely positive. You could see them laughing out loud and engaging with strangers as they studied the pots and prints with their acutely observed comments on society. “So, we hope that visitors can have the same positive experience when they come to visit The American Dream at Modern One.”

Andrew gets a name change as Palace reinstates hyphen to Mountbatten-Windsor

The disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor may have been formally stripped of his dukedom, his HRH and his princely title, but Buckingham Palace has handed him a tiny addition to his new name – a hyphen. Royal sources have confirmed that, going forward, Andrew will use the punctuation mark between his two last names. When the former prince’s new name as a commoner was announced on October 30 as he was banished from the monarchy over his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, the Palace stated he would known as “Andrew Mountbatten Windsor”. But the surname was missing the hyphen decreed by Andrew’s late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, 65 years ago when she set out the arrangements for the naming of her descendants as “Mountbatten-Windsor”. When asked about the absence of a hyphen, in reference to the Queen’s decision in 1960, a Palace spokeswoman said at the time of the announcement confirming Andrew’s loss of his titles: “Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was the name agreed.” It is understood the Palace has subsequently examined the 1960 Privy Council Declaration, which includes a hyphen, and will use a hyphen going forward. In 1960, Elizabeth II declared her direct descendants – other than those with the style of royal highness and the title of prince or princess – when they needed a surname would use Mountbatten-Windsor. Eight years earlier, after her accession in 1952, the Queen had decided that the royal family’s surname would still be Windsor and not the Duke of Edinburgh’s surname Mountbatten, much to Philip’s annoyance. “I’m just a bloody amoeba,” Philip is said to have shouted, when learning his children would not bear his surname, complaining he was the only man in the country not allowed to do so. In the end, the Queen, in a gesture to her aggrieved husband, gave him a concession of a double barrelled surname joined by a hyphen – just days before their third child Andrew was born. The official declaration on February 8 1960 – ahead of Andrew’s arrival on February 19 1960 – read: “My descendants other than descendants enjoying the style title or attribute of Royal Highness and the titular dignity of Prince or Princess and female descendants who marry and their descendants shall bear the name of Mountbatten-Windsor.” It also currently appears written as Mountbatten-Windsor on the royal family’s official website. Andrew was born a prince, but had this birthright title removed by the King because of his “serious lapses of judgment” over his association with convicted sex offender Epstein.

AI could revolutionise healthcare delivery: Dr Naresh Trehan

The 22nd CII Annual Health Summit was held on Tuesday, with the theme Adding Life to Years in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, in New Delhi. While speaking at the Health Summit, Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman, CII Steering Group on Health & Healthcare Council and CMD, Medanta - The Medicity, said, Providing quality healthcare to all citizens is a key priority for Governments worldwide and particularly for India, with its population of 1.4 billion. India has made significant progress through various Government initiatives, strong public-private partnerships, and a vibrant private healthcare sector. However, with expanding healthcare needs driven by rising rates of obesity, cancer, and other chronic conditions, new solutions are essential. AI holds immense potential to transform healthcare delivery by expanding access, enhancing expertise, reducing costs, and improving overall efficiency, he added. Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals, said, India has witnessed remarkable improvements in key healthcare indicators, including reductions in infant and maternal mortality rates, the availability of affordable treatment, and growing medical tourism, with patients arriving from over 140 countries. The creation of more than 79 crore ABHA IDs underscores the countrys progress in building a robust digital health ecosystem. With over 250 million health data points and a strong foundation in intellectual property and digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers immense potential to further scale and strengthen Indias healthcare system. As non-communicable diseases continue to rise, it is imperative for India to harness the power of AI for early detection, prevention, and better health outcomes, she added. Dr Kenji Shibuya, Chief Executive Officer, Medical Excellence, Japan, said, Collaboration between India and Japan can play a pivotal role in shaping a broader healthcare agenda for the future. Ayurveda, one of Indias enduring strengths, offers a holistic approach to wellness, and integrating AI into this traditional system can greatly enhance its effectiveness in addressing a wide range of health conditions, including chronic inflammation and lifestyle-related diseases. Japans well-established expertise in preventive healthcare complements Indias capabilities, creating a powerful synergy. This partnership stands as a model of robust South-South cooperation, demonstrating how shared knowledge and innovation can advance global health outcomes. The theme for the Summit, Adding Life to Years in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, is both visionary and urgent, as mentioned by Amita Sarkar, Deputy Director General, CII. A tripartite MOU between CII, MEJ, and ERIA was exchanged, marking a new chapter of collaboration in healthcare technology, policy research, and capacity building across the Indo-Pacific. This MoU underscores a shared commitment to fostering an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable healthcare ecosystem between India and Japan, said Dr Takayuki Yamanaka, Chief Operation Officer, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). As India advances toward the vision of Viksit Bharat, reimagining healthcare through the lens of AI is both an opportunity and a necessity, highlighted Dr Shubnum Singh, Principal Advisor, Healthcare, CII. It captures the promise of technology to not just extend life, but to improve the quality and dignity of those additional years. AI and digital tools are redefining diagnostics, research, and patient engagement, but the true test lies in how intelligently and inclusively we apply them to strengthen our health systems and empower our people, she added.
