Trump and Xi reach limited trade truce, easing restrictions on rare earths and chip firms

Trump and Xi reach limited trade truce, easing restrictions on rare earths and chip firms The White House announced Saturday that the United States and China had reached a new trade agreement aimed at easing tensions between the two economic powers. Under the deal, Beijing will suspend export controls on key rare earth minerals such as gallium, germanium, and graphite, while Washington will pause planned tariff hikes originally set for November. “This meeting will lead to everlasting peace and success. God bless both China and the USA!” Trump declared after what he called a “G2 meeting” with Xi. The agreement also halves US tariffs on fentanyl-related products from 20 to 10 percent and commits China to purchase 12 million tonnes of American soybeans this year, with a minimum of 25 million tonnes annually over the next three years. Additionally, China will allow the Chinese facilities of Dutch chipmaker Nexperia BV to resume exports — a move expected to ease pressure on global semiconductor supply chains. While the deal offers a temporary reprieve, analysts caution that the commitments are short-term, lasting only a year. “It’s a truce in the trade war, not its end,” said Josef Mahoney, a professor at East China Normal University in Shanghai. The agreement follows Trump’s “G2” summit in Busan, where he claimed that “the relationship between the United States and China has never been better.”

This Indian city glows as brightly as Tokyo, Singapore in ISS night images

Washington [US], November 21 (ANI): The International Space Station (ISS) has shared a new series of nighttime photographs showcasing major global cities illuminated after sunset, with Delhi included among the most striking views. One of the images captures the Indian capital glowing intensely, its network of lights forming a clear and intricate pattern visible from orbit. According to the alt text attached to the photograph, 'India's National Capital Territory of Delhi, home to approximately 34.67 million people, is the second-largest metropolitan area in the world after Tokyo.' This description highlights the vast scale and density that make Delhi's nightscape so prominent from space. Adding to the visual details, the ISS noted, 'This nighttime view from the International Space Station, taken at approximately 10:54 pm local time, shows the city split by the Yamuna River. The bright rectangular area near the right center marks Indira Gandhi International Airport, one of the busiest aviation hubs in South Asia.' The image not only shows Delhi's brightness but also maps out its key landmarks from orbit. The ISS placed Delhi's visuals in a global context by releasing nighttime images of other major cities. A photograph of Singapore shows the city-state separated from Johor Bahru in Malaysia by the Johor Strait, while another captures Japan's capital region and surrounding suburbs illuminated along Tokyo Bay. Sharing the visuals, the ISS stated, 'Cities like Delhi, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sao Paulo are among the most luminous urban centers seen from the International Space Station at night.' This comparison underscores Delhi's place among the world's brightest and most recognisable urban landscapes. Alongside the images, the space station marked a major milestone, noting that it completed 25 years of uninterrupted human presence on November 2, 2025. The ISS traces its origins to a design period between 1984 and 1993, with construction contributions from the United States, Canada, Japan and European partners, reflecting decades of global collaboration. This continuous occupancy began when the Expedition 1 crew reached the ISS on November 2, 2000. Since that day, at least one astronaut or cosmonaut has remained aboard daily, making it the longest sustained human presence in space. The first resident crew, NASA astronaut William Shepherd and Roscosmos cosmonauts Yuri Gidzenko and Sergei Krikalev, reached the station two days after launching from Kazakhstan on October 31, 2000, laying the foundation for ongoing scientific research. The milestone reflects the ISS's role as a symbol of international partnership. Since its first mission, the station has hosted nearly 300 visitors from 26 countries and supported thousands of experiments aimed at improving life on Earth and advancing future missions to the Moon and Mars. Popularity of women's cricket rising, parents more open to supporting their daughters in pursuing sport: Rajeev Shukla

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 2 (ANI): On the eve of the ICC Women's World Cup final between India and South Africa, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla lauded the rapid rise of women's cricket in the country, highlighting the growing fan interest and the team's performances in the tournament. 'When the semi-final was being played, the stadium was jam-packed. The demand for tickets for the final match is immense. Women's cricket's popularity is rising. People are coming to watch the match live. Earlier, people didn't pay much attention to it and didn't follow it. They were not very interested in it. There were several states which didn't even have women players,' Shukla said. He further added that the shift in attitude across the country has been encouraging, as parents are now more open to supporting their daughters in pursuing the sport. 'Now parents are ready everywhere, and they are excited about sending their daughters for women's cricket,' he added. Reflecting on India's remarkable journey in the tournament, Shukla praised the team's fighting spirit, particularly their win over Australia in the semi-final, as they chased the highest total in women's ODI. 'We have several achievements in this Women's World Cup. We beat Australia in the semi-final by chasing such a high score. This has brought laurels to the women's team. India's women's cricket is also progressing due to this,' he said. Expressing confidence ahead of the title clash against South Africa, the BCCI Vice President said he believes India can lift the trophy and further elevate the status of women's cricket globally. 'I am confident that we will be the World Cup champions, and women's cricket in India will earn global laurels...Our women's team will emerge as a strong team internationally. I have been in the BCCI since we took women's cricket under our fold. Continuous efforts are being made to make it thrive,' Shukla noted. Recapping the encounter between the two sides, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. After skipper Alyssa Healy's early loss, Phoebe Litchfield (119 in 93 balls, with 17 fours and three sixes) and Ellyse Perry (77 in 88 balls, with six fours and two sixes) put up a 155-run stand for the second wicket. With the wicket of Litchfield, India made a comeback, reducing Australia to 265/6. However, a 66-run stand between Ash Gardner (63 in 45 balls, with four boundaries and four sixes) and Kim Garth (17) took the Aussies to 338 runs in 49.5 overs. Shree Charani (2/49) and Deepti Sharma (2/73) were among the top bowlers for India. Amanjot Kaur, Kranti Goud and Radha Yadav took a wicket each. During the run-chase, India was 59/2 in the 10th over, losing openers Shafali Verma (10) and Smriti Mandhana (24 in 24 balls, with two fours and a six). However, Jemimah and Harmanpreet did not let the pressure pile on India. Richa Ghosh (26 in 16 balls, with two fours and two sixes) and Amanjot (15* in eight balls, with two fours) played important cameos, supporting Jemimah as the run chase was completed with five wickets and nine balls in hand. Jemimah earned the 'Player of the Match' award. With this win, India have booked their spot in the Women's CWC final and are set to lock horns with South Africa on Sunday. (ANI)

GST Collections Rise 4.6% To Rs 1.96 Lakh Crore In October

Despite rate rationalisation, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 4.6 per cent (year-on-year) in the festive month of October at about Rs 1.96 lakh crore, the official data showed on Saturday.October also made it the 10th consecutive month that revenues remained above the Rs 1.8 lakh crore mark.According to the government data, the GST collections went up 9 per cent to about Rs 13.89 lakh crore in the April-October period of FY26 -- against Rs 12.74 lakh crore in the same period last fiscal (FY25).The data further showed that after deducting refunds, the government's net tax collections stood at Rs 1.69 lakh crore, 0.6 per cent more last month than in October 2024.The month of October saw robust consumer demand after the September 22 rate cuts towards broader tax and economic reforms. The government said that the benefits of recent GST cuts have been extended to consumers in the festive season, as consumption is one of the key engines for growth.Because of the GST reforms, it's very likely that consumption will increase more than 10 per cent this year, which means there is a strong possibility of extra consumption of around Rs 20 lakh crore.“The higher gross GST collections reflect a strong festive season, higher demand and a rate structure that has been well absorbed by businesses. It is a positive indicator of how both consumption and compliance are moving in the right direction,” said Abhishek Jain, Partner and National Head-Indirect Tax, KPMG in India. The GST revenues rose 9.1 per cent year-on-year in September, reaching Rs 1.89 lakh crore. In the second quarter of FY26, collections reached Rs 5.71 lakh crore, a 7.7 per cent increase year-over-year.Meanwhile, India's net direct tax revenue climbed 6.33 per cent to over Rs 11.89 lakh crore in the current fiscal year (till October 12). The Income Tax Department said that total gross direct tax collection stood at Rs 13.92 lakh crore, up from Rs 13.60 lakh crore during the same period last fiscal. This performance was driven by stronger corporate tax collections and slower refund payouts. While corporate tax receipts rose to Rs 5.02 lakh crore from Rs 4.91 lakh crore, non-corporate tax collections (including individuals and HUFs) went up to Rs 6.56 lakh crore from Rs 5.94 lakh crore. U.S. envoy warns Hezbollah still wields 40,000 fighters and 20,000 rockets as threat to Israel grows

U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Thomas Barrack, who also serves as envoy to Lebanon and Syria, said Saturday at a conference in Manama, Bahrain, that Hezbollah retains a powerful force of about 40,000 militants and between 15,000 and 20,000 rockets and missiles. Barrack noted that while a soldier in the Lebanese army earns about $275 a month, a Hezbollah “fighter” makes roughly $2,200, nearly 10 times more. He used the comparison to underscore the difficulty of dismantling Hezbollah’s military capabilities. “Lebanon is a failed state,” Barrack said. “It has no central bank, its banking system has collapsed. There is no electricity people depend on private generators. Even water and education are provided by private suppliers. The state is Hezbollah, which in the south provides water and education.” By contrast, Barrack said, the Lebanese army consists of about 60,000 troops equipped with old jeeps and AK-47 rifles. “What’s going on here?” he asked. Barrack said Israel continues to strike targets in Lebanon daily because Hezbollah’s weapons remain in place and urged the Lebanese leadership to move faster toward disarmament. “Thousands of missiles in southern Lebanon still threaten Israel,” he said. “It makes no sense that there is no dialogue between the two countries. Lebanon has no time to waste. It must consolidate its weapons. Israel may respond in Lebanon depending on developments.” The ambassador, who also represents President Donald Trump in talks involving Israel and Syria, credited Turkey with playing a crucial role in securing the Gaza cease-fire. “It would not have happened without them,” he said. “It was Turkey’s relationship with Hamas that made it possible. I believe stability will hold, and Turkey will play a part.” Despite tensions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Barrack dismissed the possibility of a confrontation. “There will be no war between Israel and Turkey. It will not happen,” he said. He added that “if progress in Gaza continues, we will see a trade agreement between Israel and Turkey.” Barrack also revealed that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa is expected to visit Washington later this month to meet with President Trump in what he described as a historic event. He said he expects Syria to join the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS. The visit will be al-Sharaa’s second to the United States during his term, following his address to the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

Man Lynched For Allegedly Eating 3 Boiled Eggs At Event In Bengal

A man was beaten to death by members of a local club in the Kamarpukur area of West Bengal's Hooghly district allegedly for eating three boiled eggs during a social gathering, the police said on Saturday. The death of the 26-year-old man has triggered shock and outrage in the locality. The police have arrested one person on charges of murder.According to police, a social gathering was organised at a club in Kamarhati on Friday on the occasion of the immersion of Jagaddhatri Puja. Later that night, the club members sat down for a community feast -- where the dispute began.Preliminary investigation revealed that Ramchandra Ghoshal (26), a resident of Lahabazar in Kamarpukur, was allegedly attacked by his friends after he ate three boiled eggs instead of the one allotted to each member. An argument broke out over the matter, which later escalated. When Ramchandra was returning home, another round of fight ensued, during which he was allegedly beaten to death. As per local sources, Ramchandra -- the only son of Tarak Ghoshal -- was a member of a neighbourhood club. Police said Raju Maiti, one of the accused, took the victim to the Sridham waiting room in Kamarpukur after the assault and left him there.Locals later found Ramchandra lying unconscious and rushed him to the Kamarpukur Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.Following the incident, police deployment was strengthened in the area to prevent any further tension."The main accused has been arrested and is being interrogated to identify others involved in the attack. A case has been registered, and investigation is underway," said a senior officer of the Hooghly district police.Local residents expressed shock and anger over the murder, calling it a senseless act over a trivial issue. They also criticised the police, pointing out that a police outpost is located just a few meters from the spot where the altercation broke out. They further claimed that despite the installation of multiple CCTV cameras in the area for 24-hour surveillance a few months ago, such a crime still occurred, raising questions about local law enforcement. Skipper Harmanpreet underscores role of "positive mindset" that "helped" India reach Women's World Cup final

Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 1 (ANI): India captain Harmanpreet Kaur affirms her side is 'mentally and physically preparing' to face 'balanced' South Africa in the Women's World Cup final on Sunday after being outgunned by them during the group-stage encounter. While reflecting on India's hard-fought journey to the final, Harmanpreet outlined the importance of a 'positive mindset' that kept their hopes of lifting their maiden World Cup trophy alive. India and South Africa scuffled in Visakhapatnam, and the Harmanpreet-led side fell to a narrow three-wicket defeat courtesy of Nadine de Klerk's 54-ball 84 unbeaten batting masterclass to hunt the 252-run target. The victory was a statement by the South African team, declaring their intentions after kicking off their campaign with a shambolic defeat against England. In 20.4 overs, South Africa crumbled to 69 after a harrowing batting display at Guwahati's Barsapara Cricket Stadium. In response, England gunned down the paltry total in 14.1 overs. Under the captaincy of Laura Wolvaardt, South Africa stormed into the semi-final to face England yet again in Guwahati. Wolvaardt led from the front and engineered a record-breaking 169(143) while Marizanne Kapp scalped figures of 5/20 to steer South Africa to a thumping 125-run victory. For Harmanpreet, it was 'outstanding' to witness South Africa's journey, and she feels an 'interesting' battle lies ahead for them. 'No doubt they played very well, even though their start was not that good. Even after that, the way they came back to this tournament is outstanding to watch. I think it's a very balanced side. We know that they have a good bowling attack, and at the same time, there is a lot of depth in batting. But our team has also got a lot of positives. I think tomorrow's match is going to be very interesting. We are mentally and physically preparing ourselves for that level, and hopefully, we will enjoy ourselves tomorrow,' Harmanpreet told reporters in the pre-match press conference. India's campaign was nothing short of a roller coaster ride, filled with ups and downs. With two consecutive wins, India emerged as a major contender for the coveted title. However, India's high-flying campaign went off the tracks with three consecutive defeats against South Africa, Australia, and England. With the last semi-final spot at stake, India returned to winning ways in style with an emphatic 53-run win (DLS method) over New Zealand to book their berth in the final four. India trounced Australia to ensure a new winner emerged in the final. During the turbulent phase, Harmanpreet revealed that keeping a 'positive mindset' was instrumental in reaching the final. 'I think we didn't shake up even once in the team because even though we lost three big losses, even after that, everyone was together, and we were all saying that we still have a great opportunity to reach the finals. So I think that was a positive mindset that helped us reach the finals. When your team has such a positive mindset and everyone wants to play, to do good for the country and win the World Cup, I think we were definitely talking about what we wanted to improve, but at the same time, we were all looking at the same goal,' Harmanpreet said. 'This is a long process; there are ups and downs. Some teams win, some lose. But at the end of the day, it's about how we reach the end. We were talking about this journey, what we have to do after this defeat. We have to improve ourselves, and along with that, we have to stay together and help each other. I think that really shows how positive characters are in the team, and everyone helped each other,' she added. India has stormed into the finals of the Women's World Cup in 2015 and 2017 but returned empty-handed on both occasions. Meanwhile, South Africa will feature in their first World Cup final and hope to return home with the silverware. (ANI)

Dockers strike against Bangladesh interim government's decision to lease key port to foreign firms

Hundreds of port workers staged a mass hunger strike on Saturday (November 1, 2025) to protest the interim government's decision to lease out Bangladesh’s main commercial seaport in southeastern Chattogram to foreign operators, amid a volatile political landscape ahead of the February elections. "The decision has been taken against the national interest. This decision will not be accepted under any circumstances," Anwar Hossain, leader of the Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP), an apex body of worker unions, told the rally at the port city. The token hunger strike, joined by activists from various workers' and political organisations, came a month after the port workers began protests against Professor Muhammad Yunus’ plan to lease out the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) to UAE-based operator DP World. The protestors said the NCT at Chattogram port — Bangladesh’s main trade gateway — was built with “domestic funds and modern technology” while it emerged as the country’s “most successful container terminal”. Bangladesh is the world's second-largest garment exporter and relies heavily on Chattogram port for most of its imports and exports. Soon after assuming power after last year’s violent street campaign that toppled then prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s government, Mr. Yunus insisted the facility — strategically located on the Bay of Bengal — should be handed over to the “best operator in the world”. His insistence sparked immediate reactions among security experts and protests in the political arena, which faded from public focus amid subsequent political turmoil. However, it resurfaced in September when Yunus said Bangladesh never explored the full potential of the Bay of Bengal, though it was “an integral part of our country” and expressed his government’s desire to upgrade ports at southwestern Cox's Bazar, Matarbari, and Maheshkhali. “These ports can foster a regional economy and strengthen economic ties with Nepal, Bhutan, and the 'Seven Sisters' (of India), benefiting all parties," he said at the ceremonial signing of the July Charter. Bangladesh Ocean Going Ship Owners' Association (BOGSOA) Chairman Azam J. Chowdhury earlier said, "It makes no sense to lease the terminals that we developed and have been operating for the past 40 years". SKOP leader and former Chattogram port general secretary Kazi Sheikh Nurullah Bahar said at the demonstration that the state must protect public assets rather than lease or sell them. Mr. Bahar also urged Mr. Yunus to ensure a free and fair transfer of power through polls. The protest was staged, defying a police ban against rallies or street marches by the port workers, while the SKOP leaders said the hunger strike was the first step against the government decision. They warned of coordinated labour actions, including sustained work stoppages and blockade of port operations, if the government failed to discard the plan. The state-run BSS news agency said DP World expressed interest in operating the port's New Mooring Container Terminal, and Danish shipping giant AP Moller-Maersk expressed desire in the Laldia Container Terminal on the outskirts of the port city. The Shipping ministry’s senior secretary Mohammed Yousuf said that "agreements are expected to be signed by December" between the foreign operator and the interim government. On October 12, the official said two more terminals — Laldia, also in Chattogram, and the river port of Pangaon in Dhaka — would also be leased to foreign companies for 25 to 30 years. Mr. Yunus earlier said his government would offer the container handling task to "best" and “most experienced” international port operators to turn the port into a world-class facility. Several security experts feared the decision might eventually endanger Bangladesh’s sovereignty. “I urge the countrymen not to allow themselves to be the victims of baseless opposition and propaganda. Continue your strong support for the interim government’s port management move. Resist those who oppose it,” Mr. Yunus told a nationwide television address in June this year. In the same address, Mr. Yunus said, “The people we are bringing in to manage the port have not threatened the sovereignty or national security of any country they’ve worked in”. The Chattogram Port handles over 90% of Bangladesh's maritime trade and nearly all of its container traffic.

Tirupati Collector clears air on reconstruction of Hathiramji Mutt

Quashing rumours on the alleged demolition of Hathiramji Mutt, Tirupati District Collector S. Venkateswar announced that the mutt will be rebuilt in the same style as the previous building. He also assured that people from Banjara community will be given first priority and the necessary facilities will be provided to them at the reconstructed premises. He, along with MLA Arani Srinivasulu, and District In-charge Joint Collector N. Maurya, conducted a review meeting with Hathiramji Mutt Committee members in the video conference hall at the Collectorate, on Saturday. During the meeting, he urged the members not to believe the misconceptions being spread that the entire mutt will be demolished. The Collector said, “As per the instructions of the district level committee, we have appointed an expert committee and taken their suggestions. IIT-Tirupati Director Prasanna Kumar and School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, Director R.N.S. Murthy have examined the building and said that everything can be reconstructed.” “The experts said that the building was previously built using Madras terrace roofing technology, and it can now be reconstructed in the same way. Only lime mortar, wood, and bricks are used in this, and there is no cement or concrete in it. According to the current technology, it is called Rain-forest Cement Concrete,” he informed.

U.S. not sending any high-level officials to COP30 climate talks in Brazil: White House

The United States will not send any top officials to the COP30 climate talks in Brazil later this month, a White House official said Saturday (November 1, 2025), as President Donald Trump instead works to boost fossil fuels. Mr. Trump, who withdrew from the Paris climate agreement for a second time upon his return to the White House in January, had not been expected to attend a leaders’ summit ahead of the annual UN climate conference in Belem. But it now appears he will not dispatch any top negotiators to the talks, to be held from November 10 to 21, either. “The U.S. is not sending any high level representatives to COP30,” a White House official said on condition of anonymity. “The President is directly engaging with leaders around the world on energy issues, which you can see from the historic trade deals and peace deals that all have a significant focus on energy partnerships.” Brazil said Friday (October 31) that fewer than 60 world leaders have confirmed they will attend the climate summit on November 6-7 — held separately this year to ease accommodation pressures. The leaders of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Norway, Colombia, Chile, Cape Verde and Liberia will attend, their governments have confirmed to AFP. China has said Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang will represent President Xi Jinping. While Mr. Trump also exited the Paris deal in his first term, his administration has gone further this time, exerting its clout to boost fossil fuels globally. This includes, for example, threatening countries with retaliatory measures if they agreed to a carbon pricing system by the UN’s International Maritime Organization, effectively curtailing its implementation. Climate advocates fear the administration could seek to withdraw from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change -- the treaty that underpins the Paris Agreement. Doing so could prevent future administrations from re-entering the deal, but it is not clear if the executive branch has the legal authority to undo a Senate-ratified treaty. Also read: Should India take global leadership on climate change? Lower level participation While Mr. Trump’s administration appears to be ignoring the summit, more than 100 state and local US leaders -- including governors and mayors — are still expected to join the talks. “We are showing up in force,” Gina McCarthy, co-chair of the “America Is All In” coalition, told reporters on a call Thursday (October 30). Ms. McCarthy formerly served as the head of the Environmental Protection Agency under former president Barack Obama and as a climate advisor to Mr. Trump’s predecessor Joe Biden. She said the group heading to Brazil represented “two-thirds of the US population and three quarters of the U.S. GDP, and more than 50% of U.S. emissions.” “We’ll deliver on the promises we made to the American people and our international colleagues,” she said. “Local leaders here have authority to act on their own behalf, to take climate action at home and abroad.” In all, 170 delegations are accredited for the main COP30 conference, taking place at a time of global political turmoil that many fear will overshadow the climate crisis.

Major Title Fights Set to Redefine the Sport at the End of the Year

The final months of the year are shaping up to deliver some of the most electrifying boxing title fights in recent memory. Across multiple weight classes and continents, world-championship belts are on the line, fighters are under pressure to redefine their legacies, and promoters are staging cards with global reach. For fans and bettors alike, this stretch offers more than just spectacle; it provides opportunity, narrative, and risk. Let’s dive into four major showdowns that promise to reshape the sport. Brian Norman Jr vs. Devin Haney Date: November 22, 2025 Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia In a high-stakes bout, Brian Norman Jr. defends his WBO welterweight title against Devin Haney. Norman Jr. enters unbeaten and confident; Haney moves up to welterweight seeking a third division crown. This is more than a title fight; it’s a clash of paths. Norman Jr. is the rising star, brimming with energy and ambition. Haney brings experience, precision, and a legacy to uphold. For those tracking boxing title fights, this is about style match-ups and generational shift. Will Norman’s hunger overwhelm Haney’s resume, or will Haney’s calculated approach prevail? The outcome could reshape the 147-lb division’s landscape. Jesse Rodriguez vs. Fernando Martinez Date: November 22, 2025 Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia In the super-flyweight division, undefeated champion Jesse Rodriguez meets Fernando Martinez in a unification bout for the WBC and WBO titles. Rodriguez’s versatility, ring IQ, and southpaw power face Martinez’s resilience and hunger. This fight highlights how “boxing title fights” are no longer confined to marquee divisions; they’re everywhere, and skill overlaps with opportunity. For Rodriguez, a win consolidates his place among elites; for Martinez, it’s a chance to climb the ladder. The merging of belts amplifies the stakes, and for observers, it crystallises the fact that championship status today demands both performance and positioning. Kubrat Pulev vs. Murat Gassiev Date: 12 December 2025 Location: Dubai, The United Arab Emirates Finally, the heavyweight division features Kubrat Pulev defending his WBA “Regular” heavyweight title against former cruiserweight standout Murat Gassiev. Pulev brings veteran savvy and positional strength; Gassiev brings power and the unfinished business of stepping into the heavyweight spotlight. The spotlight on this bout underscores how “boxing title fights” in the heavy division carry unique narrative weight, age, and trajectory that meet in the ring. For fans, it’s the clash of experience versus punch-potential. For the sport, it’s another sign that heavyweight relevance extends beyond the traditional marquee names. Fans view this matchup as a crossroads moment, Pulev’s experience against Gassiev’s raw explosiveness, a reminder that heavyweight boxing remains unpredictable, dramatic, and capable of producing instant, career-defining knockouts. Bettor Takeaway As a fan looking to bet on boxing, these marquee fights present compelling opportunities, but they demand strategy, discipline, and insight. First, recognise weight class dynamics: each belt has its own context. A light-heavyweight fight isn’t just about size; it’s about speed, stamina, and pressure. Next, examine how fighters arrive: are they stepping up, defending, or consolidating? That impacts value. Additionally, treat each fight as a data point. Trends matter: undefeated records, unification stakes, first defences, all these factors influence narratives and odds. For example, Benavidez versus Yarde features an “undefeated favourite” storyline; Norman Jr. versus Haney pits a rising star against an established technician; Rodriguez versus Martinez entails belt consolidation; Pulev versus Gassiev highlights heavyweight transition. Smart bettors will look for value where the market underprices risk or overprices hype. They’ll monitor line movement, public sentiment, and fighters’ recent form and wear patterns. Approach each bout as an investment: define your edge, set your risk, manage your bankroll. In the world of “boxing title fights,” the edges are often fleeting; miss them, and you’re left chasing. But find them, and you’re playing for something greater than the thrill of the bell. Rounding Off an Impressive Year As the year closes, these bouts serve as a fitting crescendo to an exceptional run for the sport. From thrilling upsets to breakout stars, 2025 has reignited global enthusiasm for boxing. The upcoming clashes, across weight classes, reflect both the sport’s diversity and its growing international reach. Each fight carries narrative weight - and together, they underline a sport thriving on momentum, risk, and reinvention. For fans, it’s the culmination of storylines built all year; for bettors, it’s a season finale rich with data, form, and intrigue. In a year that’s restored boxing’s unpredictability and spectacle, these final title showdowns don’t just end the calendar; they elevate it, setting the stage for an even bolder 2026. Plenty of Entertainment The end of the year is shaping up as one of the strongest stretches for major boxing events in recent memory. Each of these fights carries significance: title status, legacy implications, and market movement. For fans, they’re must-watch. For bettors, they’re must-analyze. Whether the spectacle or the strategy draws you, these four matchups will define how the sport is remembered this year and how value is found within it. As the final bell approaches on this action-packed year, the outcomes of these bouts will ripple across divisions, rankings, and sportsbooks alike. Each result will redefine not only champions but also how fans and bettors view momentum, resilience, and opportunity in modern boxing’s ever-evolving global arena. Given the complexities, it’s no wonder that both fans and bettors will be on the edge of their seats. These matchups not only promise to be a thrill-a-minute, they also point towards an ever-evolving boxing ecosystem - and that’s good news for followers of boxing in all its forms. *Content reflects information available as of 2025/10/30; subject to change.

UK's Port of Dover delays new EU border checks for tourist traffic - TradingView

Britain's Port of Dover has paused the planned roll-out of the European Union's new biometric border checks to car passengers as it has not yet been given the go-ahead by French authorities, it said on Saturday. Last month, the EU started to phase in its much-delayed Entry/Exit System (EES) for all non-EU citizens, including British visitors - an automated system that requires travellers to register at the border by scanning their passport and having their fingerprints and photograph taken. For British travellers using the Port of Dover, the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone or Eurostar terminal at St Pancras International, the process will take place at the border before they leave the UK. At the Port of Dover, freight and coach traffic was subject to EES checks from October 12. Checks for tourist traffic had been scheduled to start on Saturday but have been put on hold. "Whilst Port of Dover’s facilities will be ready for 1st November, we are being guided by French authorities as to when we will activate," Doug Bannister, CEO of the port, said in a statement. Last month, Bannister said he was confident the checks would not result in traffic congestion in the peak summer season but warned it would take six times longer to process each car.

Barack Obama rallies Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey ahead of key governor elections

Richmond (US): Former President Barack Obama will headline rallies on Saturday for Democrats running for governor in Virginia and New Jersey, corralling voters ahead of elections that may signal the national mood 10 months into Donald Trump's second presidency and a year ahead of midterm elections that could reshape it. Republicans in those states are stumping as well on the final weekend of campaigning before Tuesday's elections, but without the national star power. And on the west coast, California advocates are making a final push ahead of a statewide referendum over whether to redraw the state's congressional map in Democrats' favour. The effort backed by Gov Gavin Newsom is part of a national redistricting battle that began when Trump urged GOP-run states to help him keep a friendly House majority in 2026. Obama, the Democrat whom Trump succeeded when he first assumed the presidency, will appear first on Saturday with Virginia's Democratic gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger in Norfolk. Obama then travels to New Jersey for an evening rally with Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mikie Sherrill in Newark. Both events put the nation's first Black president in areas where Black voter turnout is key for Democratic victories. Virginia Republican nominee Winsome Earle-Sears, the current lieutenant governor, and New Jersey Republican Jack Ciattarelli, a former state lawmaker, have busy itineraries, as well. The Virginia contest ensures the election of the first woman to lead the Commonwealth since its 1776 founding. If elected, Earle-Sears would be the first Black woman elected governor of any state.
