Police searching for Kelowna man last seen nine months ago (Kelowna)

Police in Kelowna are seeking the public’s help in finding a missing man last seen nine months ago. Joseph Cornell, 28, was last seen on Jan. 15, 2025 and has not communicated with his family since December 2024. He was last spotted in the 1900-block of Kane Road in the Glenmore area. “This is out of character for Mr. Cornell and police have concern for his well-being,” said police in a news release Tuesday, which noted that investigators believe he is still in Kelowna. Cornell is described as Caucasian, five-foot-seven, 130 pounds with sandy coloured hair and blue eyes. If you know the whereabouts of Cornell or have had any information about him, contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference file #2025-60088.

Small fire burning out of countrol southeast of Cherryville (Vernon)

A wildfire has been detected southeast of Cherryville. According to the BC Wildfire Service website, the fire has been mapped at 0.1 hectares. The Yeoward Mountain fire was discovered Oct. 14 and is classified as out of control, meaning it is expected to spread beyond its current size. The fire is believed to be lighting caused. There are currently no area restrictions or evacuation orders or alerts associated with the fire.

Triple Zero dispatchers forced to use pen and paper during hours-long outage

Victoria’s emergency Triple Zero computer and dispatch system was knocked offline for several hours early on Wednesday morning, forcing call-takers and dispatchers to use pen and paper to co-ordinate emergency responses. The outage, which began at 12.30am, was caused by a power issue at the Triple Zero Victoria facility, a spokesperson said. While the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system has since been fully restored, the exact time it appeared back online remains unclear. A spokesperson confirmed that “usual back-up measures were enacted to minimise impact to the community” during the outage. “Our staff are highly trained in Victoria’s CAD back-up procedures, which are consistent with all other Australian jurisdictions,” the spokesperson said.
