Keanu Reeves' Hollywood manager tried to change his name during his early acting career

Keanu Reeves is getting candid about his "welcome to Hollywood" moment at the start of his career. In a recent interview on the "New Heights" podcast Oct. 15, the 61-year-old "John Wick" star discussed his early days in Hollywood and the many stage names he tried before choosing to keep his name. "I got paid when I was like 16, so I was a professional actor around 16, 17 [years old]," Reeves said. "I was in Toronto, Canada, and then I got a manager who lived in Los Angeles. "At 20 years old, I drove in my car to Los Angeles. Got out of my car and my manager said, ‘We want to change your name.’ So, that’s like, a welcome to Hollywood [moment]. I remember I was walking on the beach, and I was just like, ‘My name? What if I change my name? What?’" ROSIE O'DONNELL NAMES HOLLYWOOD A-LISTER AS HER WORST INTERVIEW ON LIVE TELEVISION He then recalled trying to come up with a stage name, originally deciding on Chuck Spadina, combining his middle name, Charles, and the Toronto street he grew up on. Chuck Spadina didn’t last long. Another name was suggested. "Then I was something Templeton," he said. He and his team eventually landed on a new idea. "So, then I became KC Reeves. I was credited as KC Reeves," he said. "And then I couldn’t do it. So, then I would be in auditions, and they would go, ‘KC Reeves.’ And I wouldn’t even answer. Six months later, I was like, ‘I’m not doing this.’ That’s a Hollywood moment." "At 20 years old, I drove in my car to Los Angeles. Got out of my car and my manager said, ‘We want to change your name.’ So, that’s like a welcome to Hollywood [moment]." Reeves appeared in several TV movies in 1986 and 1987 before landing a role in the 1988 drama "Dangerous Liaisons." He became a household name as Ted in "Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure" in 1989. His breakout role in the 1989 movie led to starring roles in "Point Break," "Speed" and "The Matrix" franchise, cementing his status as one of Hollywood's leading men. He is currently starring as a guardian angel in the comedy "Good Fortune." LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? 'I drove bargain Chinese EV version of Vauxhall but there's a problem'

China-based Leapmotor has a lot of technology to offer, but can its new B10 impress? Motoring writer Jon Reay found out. It’s yet another Chinese-made, small-ish, electric SUV. As you might have noticed, there’s quite a lot of them now – but this one also has a sprinkling of European DNA under the skin. Yes, it’s made and designed in China, but Leapmotor is 20% owned by Stellantis – the enormous company behind Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen and so on. As a result, you can buy the B10 in the same sorts of places you’d find an e-Grandland or an e-3008. The difference is, it undercuts both of these on price pretty significantly. But where should you be putting your cash? Everything, in a word. Two Leapmotor models are already on sale in the UK: the tiny T03 city car, and the C10 SUV. The B10 sits roughly in the middle, but on an entirely different platform from either of those two. In terms of other rivals, think of it as the same size as a Peugeot e-3008 or Renault Scenic. Although it’s designed and built in China, Leapmotor says it borrowed some help from Stellantis’s European team of engineers, particularly when it came to the chassis. That should mean you get the best of both worlds: the latest battery, electric motor and interior tech from China, but with some European influence on how it actually drives. At least, that’s the theory. All B10s get a 67.7kWh battery – pretty sizeable for this type of car – and a single 215bhp electric motor. Unlike most of its rivals, save for the MGS5 EV, the Leapmotor is rear-wheel drive too. Does that make a difference? Sort of – if nothing else, it helps the B10 put its power down a bit more effectively. Charging-wise, it’ll manage a maximum of 168kW on a rapid charger, or 11kW on a regular slow charger – both of which are pretty impressive stats on a relatively budget EV. Here’s where things start to unravel. Leapmotor is adamant that the car has spent time being finessed at Stellantis’s Italian test track, but in reality, it still doesn’t feel anything close to a European product behind the wheel. No matter which of the three driving modes you engage via the touch screen, the steering feels limp and disconnected. The ride is pretty soft – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing – but it’s not very composed, with the car bouncing around like a blancmange at larger bumps in the road. It is at least relatively relaxing to amble around in at 30mph. It’s quiet too: we detected very little wind and road noise, certainly less than the average budget EV. Things aren’t much more European from the outside. You could argue – from the side profile at least – that the B10 looks like a shrunk-in-the-wash Porsche Cayenne from a few years ago. Proportionally though, there’s something a bit off: like its wheels are too small for its body. That aside, there’s not much else to criticise Leapmotor for. There’s attractive detailing all around the B10, with LED lightbars front and rear, and sleek flip-out door handles. There are a few colour options to pick from, but other than that, all B10s sold in the UK will look identical. Inside, the B10 isn’t half bad. It’s attractively designed, looking far more modern than a lot of its rivals – Chinese or otherwise – and material quality is also very impressive. There’s not much scratchy or hard plastic to be found, and even the ‘eco’ fake leather feels pleasant to the touch. The large central touch screen is attractive to look at and pretty responsive, too. Less good is its general usability: a lot of the car’s controls are buried away in there, often behind a few separate menus. There is a permanent bar of items along the bottom of the screen – including adjusting the interior temperature – but they’re small and fiddly to use, with many of the icons not particularly clear at a glance. It is at least spacious: Leapmotor says this has the most interior space in its class, and we’d be inclined to agree. Boot space is average at 430 litres, but you do also get a 25-litre ‘frunk’ under the bonnet to store your charging cables. There’s certainly a lot of equipment squeezed inside the B10. There’s only one trim level, and it is positively loaded with toys, despite the pretty low price starting at £31,495 - less once grants and offers are applied. Front seats are electrically operated, as well as heated and cooled. There’s a panoramic roof with an electric blind, which can even be operated via a smartphone app, and of course, an electric bootlid too. There’s vehicle to load, which lets you use the B10 to power pretty much anything with a three-pin plug, and that all-important heat pump to help maximise your range in winter. Leapmotor also promises Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are on the way too, which is just as well, because the B10’s own infotainment software feels rather unfinished. For example, Spotify is built in, but will only let you choose one track at a time – which it then plays on repeat forever. Voice controls are similarly questionable. It can just about handle a simple task, such as changing the cabin temperature, but you’ll need to ask it in a very specific way – and then wait what seems like two minutes for it to work out what to do. Compared to something like Google Assistant, which you’ll find in various brands from Renault to Volvo, it’s completely hopeless. On the face of it, there’s a lot to like about the B10. It’s well-priced, spacious and gets a decent-sized battery too. The interior looks and feels pleasantly put together, much more so than a lot of rivals at this price. But it’s hard to shake the feeling that this isn’t a finished product. Leapmotor says that the car will get regular over-the-air updates to its software, but assessing the B10 as it stands now, there are usability issues that will soon start to grate. Nor does it drive as well as other Stellantis EVs – despite their involvement in its development. If you’re tight on budget and need a comfortable EV to get from A to B, then the B10 is worth considering. But if you’re expecting a bargain version of a Vauxhall or Peugeot, you’re likely to be disappointed.

NYC voters at ‘No Kings’ rally say Zohran Mamdani 'represents everything' Trump is not

MANHATTAN, N.Y. – New Yorkers who spoke to Fox News Digital at the "No Kings" rally in Times Square on Saturday agreed they want mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani to protect New York City from President Donald Trump. Millions of Americans gathered in cities across the country on Saturday to protest Trump's sweeping, second-term agenda. While marching through Times Square with almost two weeks until Election Day, New York City voters explained why they are voting for Mamdani for mayor. "He represents everything they're not," Edgar, a New York City voter who lives in Rockaway Beach, Queens, told Fox News Digital. Edgar explained that democracy is "under attack," and New York City needs a leader, like Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., to similarly fight back against the Trump administration. FINAL STRETCH: MAMDANI'S LARGE LEAD SHRINKING AS CUOMO GAINS GROUND IN NYC MAYORAL RACE Mamdani himself has applauded Newsom's leadership rejecting Trump's second-term through judicial action, particularly when Trump sent the National Guard to Los Angeles during protests rejecting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportations. Trump has since sent the National Guard to major cities, including Washington, D.C., Chicago, Portland, Oregon, and Memphis, Tennessee, to combat crime. He has also threatened to cut federal funding to New York City if Mamdani is elected mayor. "I don't think he's afraid of Trump in the least," Gail Kelly, a lawyer who lives in Breezy Point, Queens, who said she is voting for Mamdani, told Fox News Digital in Times Square. Kelly said she is "tired" of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary to Mamdani in June and is now running as an independent candidate, said she is "not that thrilled with Curtis Sliwa," the Republican nominee. NEW POLLS REVEAL MAMDANI HAS COMMANDING LEAD OVER RIVALS WEEKS FROM ELECTION DAY Brad, another Mamdani voter who lives in Gowanus, Brooklyn, and attended Saturday's "No Kings" rally, said Trump and Cuomo are "fascists." "Cuomo is a fascist as well," Brad said. "He is also a sexual abuser. Mamdani, honestly, I don't know if he's got good ideas. I don't think a lot of ideas are gonna work, but he's got optimism, he cares about the people in the city, he cares about people's lives. That's good enough." Cuomo resigned as New York governor in 2021 following multiple sexual harassment allegations that he has denied. Rich Azzopardi, a Cuomo campaign spokesperson, fired back at Brad's charge when reached for comment. "Andrew Cuomo passed a $15 minimum wage, paid family leave, made marriage equality the law of the land, made college tuition free for nearly 80 percent of CUNY students and protected a women’s right to choose by codifying Row vs. Wade into state law. Whomever said that clearly doesn’t know what any of that word salad means. Send me their address, I’ll be happy to send them a dictionary on me," Azzopardi said. Annelice Morales, a Mamdani voter who lives on Manhattan's Upper East Side, said Mamdani's transparency is refreshing. "I just think people, like Cuomo, have been in power for a really long time, and they abuse power," Morales told Fox News Digital while marching in the "No Kings" rally. Morales said she "100%" hopes Mamdani will fight back against Trump. "He has a message to improve lives, the material needs of the New Yorkers," Lenny, a Lower East Side resident who is voting for Mamdani in November, said on Saturday. When asked if he wants Mamdani to fight back against Trump, Lenny said, "Just uphold the law. It's that simple." Mamdani has a 21-point lead among New York City registered voters: 49% back Mamdani, while 28% go for Cuomo and 13% favor Sliwa, according to the latest Fox News poll. Voters will elect a new mayor of New York City on Nov. 4 as Mayor Eric Adams suspended his re-election campaign last month. While those who spoke to Fox News Digital at Saturday's "No Kings" rally in Manhattan said they were voting for Mamdani in the upcoming election, the democratic socialist candidate did not advertise that he was attending. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Mamdani's campaign did not respond to inquiries about whether he was attending any "No Kings" rallies. Meanwhile, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who has endorsed and campaigned for Mamdani, headlined a "No Kings" rally in Washington, D.C., on Saturday. Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Thousands of jobs for Wales pledged under Government clean energy scheme

Wales is set to see an increase of 15,000 jobs in the clean energy sector by 2030, bringing the total number of jobs to 20,000, the UK Labour Government said today as it publishes the first ever national plan to recruit workers needed for clean energy. The jobs in Wales will be among more than 400,000 across the UK by 2030. Plumbers, electricians and welders are said to be among the skills most in demand. For the first time, the UK Labour Government is today (Sunday, October 19) publishing a comprehensive national plan to train up the next generation of clean energy workers, with employment expected to double to 860,000 by 2030. The news comes as plans for floating wind farms off the coast of Wales are also a step nearer with the signing of leasing agreements. The biggest growing occupations in Wales will be in skilled construction and building trades; skilled metal, electronic and electrical trades; and science, research, engineering and technology professionals. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here . Among 31 priority occupations are plumbers, electricians and welders, all said to be particularly in demand. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is to set out measures ensuring companies receiving public grants and contracts deliver good jobs across the clean energy sector. "For young people, these jobs can offer higher levels of pay - with entry level roles in the majority of occupations in clean energy paying 23% more than the same occupations in other sectors," the government said as it announced the package. "Jobs in wind, nuclear, and electricity networks all advertise average salaries of over £50,000, compared to the UK average of £37,000, and are spread across coastal and post-industrial communities." A generation of young people across Wales will benefit from the good jobs and high wages that the booming clean energy economy can bring, the government added. As part of the plans, Pembrokeshire will become home to one of five new Technical Excellence Colleges across the UK, which will help train young people into essential roles. READ MORE : Tata Steel announces five-week stoppages at key Welsh operations Skills pilots will be backed by a total of £2.5 million – which could go towards new training centres, courses or career advisers. The government said its national plan will ensure jobs are "high quality and well paid". "Setting clear workforce estimates for the first time will galvanise industry, the public sector, and education providers to work together to deliver one cohesive strategy to invest in training for specific in demand occupations." As well as taking a swipe at Nigel Farage's Reform party the government also signalled support for trade unions for workers' pay and conditions. It said: "In clear contrast, Nigel Farage’s “war on clean energy jobs” would threaten all of these jobs. "Farage’s Party’s ideological opposition to clean energy would rob communities of good jobs in the industries of the future and lose billions of pounds of investment from areas like Wales. "The Energy Secretary will also set out how this government sees trade unions as an essential part of the modern workplace and economy. Across the broader energy sector, trade union coverage has declined from over 70% in the mid 90s to around 30% today. Recognising trade unions is vital to securing high pay and good conditions for workers." Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said: “Communities have long been calling out for a new generation of good industrial jobs. The clean energy jobs boom can answer that call - and today we publish a landmark national plan to make it happen. “Our plans will help create an economy in which there is no need to leave your hometown just to find a decent job. Thanks to this government’s commitment to clean energy, a generation of young people in our industrial heartlands can have well-paid secure jobs, from plumbers to electricians and welders. “This is a pro-worker, pro-jobs, pro-union agenda that will deliver the national renewal our country needs.” Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Pat McFadden echoed this saying: “We're giving workers the skills needed for switch to clean energy, which is good for them, good for industry - and will drive growth across the nation." First Minister Eluned Morgan said the plan was an opportunity for skilled, secure jobs. She also used the announcement to take a swipe at rivals as the Senedd election looms. Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens said the jobs would be a "gamechanger" for Wales and its green ambitions. “Wales has a proud industrial heritage. Our coal powered the world and our communities still bear that legacy. Now we look to the future and to the industries of the future, "Eluned Morgan said. “Nigel Farage wants to take Wales backwards. He and his team want to tear up net zero plans. And Plaid Cymru say they want to see net-zero but try to block infrastructure that could deliver that. “With Labour in power, Wales will be at the forefront of the green revolution, seizing the opportunity of skilled, secure jobs leading to more pounds in people’s pockets.” The UK Government said its "clean energy mission" has attracted more than £50 billion of private investment since last July. For young people, these jobs can offer higher levels of pay - with entry level roles in the majority of occupations in clean energy paying 23% more than the same occupations in other sectors. Five new "Technical Excellence Colleges" to help train young people in essential roles. Skills pilots in Cheshire, Lincolnshire and Pembrokeshire will be backed by a total of £2.5 million of investment. Oil and gas workers will benefit from up to £20 million in total from the UK and Scottish Governments to provide bespoke careers training for thousands of new roles in clean energy.

NFL DFS Week 7 Optimal Lineup: Bet on Bo Nix rebound against Big Blue

NFL DFS Week 7 Optimal Lineup: Bet on Bo Nix rebound against Big Blue

Last week’s lineup included three of the nine players who ended up in the Milly Maker-winning lineup, but it was ultimately undone by injuries. Drake Maye (27.24 DraftKings points) continued his ascension toward the top-five quarterback discussion against the Saints, with Josh Jacobs (32 DK points) and Kyren Williams (16.7 DK points) each doing their part. That’s 75.94 points on a combined salary of $19,500, earning an almost 4x return on investment. That’s what you need to take down tournaments like these, but losing two wide receivers to an injury early in games where they had premium matchups is hard to overcome. Especially when they have the ceilings of Puka Nacua (ankle) and Calvin Ridley (hamstring). Still, a .333 batting average would fast-track me to Cooperstown. Last week, much of the field built lineups around the Cowboys-Panthers, the highest game total on the slate, while I focused on what could possibly go wrong. Both George Pickens (34.8 DK points) and Rico Dowdle (36.9 DK points) ended up in the winning lineup, but you didn’t need Dak Prescott or Bryce Young, although both were fine. This week, the Cowboys are back with an even bigger game total (54½) against the Commanders, and you’d think I would’ve learned my lesson. I have, just not the one you’re probably thinking. There will almost certainly be players in this game who are usable, but building your lineup around it carries more risk than most realize, especially considering it’s a divisional matchup. Throw out the rules when two rivals face off. Jayden Daniels, CeeDee Lamb, Javonte Williams and Zach Ertz will all be serious chalk this week. If you do build around the matchup, I’d onslaught it — four or five players from this game in your lineup — because you believe the game will meet or exceed expectations. I’d also build around Prescott, who is drawing significantly less attention than Daniels. Otherwise, pick a piece or two, and search for other building blocks. I have a few in mind, including one particular player from the Commanders-Cowboys. The Preamble Devising the perfect Daily Fantasy Sports strategy for the NFL can be a challenge, which is why I’m here weekly to assist. On DraftKings, it’s important to remember you’re playing full-point PPR with bonuses if a player surpasses 300 passing yards, 100 rushing yards or 100 receiving yards. Here is my optimal lineup for Sunday’s NFL $2.75 million Fantasy Football Millionaire contest, but it can be utilized as a foundation in other games and platforms. All prices listed are courtesy of DraftKings with a $50,000 budget. The optimal lineup has netted $80 this season, so I’m in the red $25 with an average score of 137.37 points through six weeks. Year-To-Date Results Week 1: 95.52 Week 2: 124.90 Week 3: 181.44 Week 4: 142.88 Week 5: 162.24 Week 6: 117.24 Week 7 lineup QB: Bo Nix, Broncos ($5,800) Nix and Denver’s passing game are in a solid bounce-back spot against the Giants. The G-Men have surrendered the seventh-most passing yards to opposing QBs this season. This is also a bet on Sean Payton as a play-caller against an aggressive pass rush. RB: Saquon Barkley, Eagles ($7,700) The last three running backs to get at least 20 touches against the Vikings were Quinshon Judkins (24 for 128 total yards), Kenneth Gainwell (25 for 134 and two touchdowns) and Bijan Robinson (25 for 168). In each of Philadelphia’s four wins, Barkley has had at least 22 touches, and he’s had 23 touches combined in the Eagles two losses. Also, Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson could return this week after missing the Giants game on a short week. RB: Quinshon Judkins, Browns ($6,000) The Dolphins’ defense has been destroyed by Rico Dowdle and Kimani Vidal the last two weeks and are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to running backs this season. According to FantasyLabs, Judkins has handled 80% of Cleveland’s rushing attempts since Week 3. Rainy plus windy conditions should equal another heavy workload against a Miami team ready to implode. WR: Justin Jefferson, Vikings ($7,600) You’d be hard-pressed to find a skinny stack with a higher ceiling than Barkley and Jefferson. Quinyon Mitchell has been dealing with a hamstring injury all week, but will play. Still, wouldn’t want to be less than 100% going against Jefferson. Also, the return of All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter could force Minnesota to throw the ball more. WR: Courtland Sutton, Broncos ($5,900) Recency bias should keep the field off of Sutton, after he had only one reception for 17 yards against Sauce Gardner in London last week. The Giants don’t have a shutdown corner and are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Also, I’m thinking Sutton has a big day in honor of Demaryius Thomas with Denver inducting the late great receiver into its Ring of Fame. Sutton is one of two Broncos left who played with Thomas. Earlier this week, he said Thomas “means the world to me.” WR: Jalen Coker, Panthers ($4,000) As mentioned above, you don’t utilize WR1s against the Jets, but ancillary WRs work perfectly fine. Coker will make his season debut after averaging 11.4 PPR points per game with three top-36 weekly fantasy finishes in his rookie season. According to FantasyPros, the Jets’ secondary has allowed the eighth-most PPR points per target to slot receivers. TE: Mason Taylor, Jets ($3,400) Who else is Justin Fields going to throw to with Garrett Wilson out with a knee injury? Coming into the week, the Panthers were allowing the second-most fantasy points to tight ends, including the most receiving yards this season. They’re now third after the Steelers and Bengals allowed every tight end in uniform to score at least one TD on Thursday night. FLEX: Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Commanders ($6,100) “Bill” is a leverage play against all that Jayden Daniels chalk that’ll be in play on Sunday. The talented rookie ranks third in explosive run rate and seventh in yards after contact per attempt, according to FantasyPros. The Cowboys’ run defense has allowed the fourth-most rushing yards per game and the fifth-highest explosive run rate. DST: Denver Broncos ($3,500) Jaxson Dart has been impressive, but he’s not a better athlete or runner than Justin Fields, and the Broncos just sacked Fields nine times. I’m sensing the Giants, reinvigorated by Dart and Cam Skattebo, get humbled at Denver. It’s one of the toughest places to play even when the Broncos are bad, and they certainly aren’t bad now.

Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! The Answer: Today's Wordle Screenshot: Erik Kain Wordle Bot Analysis Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here. I decided to use Wordle Bot’s favorite opening word today, and wouldn’t you know? It was a really good starter, leaving me with three yellow boxes and just 44 remaining words. What makes me happy about today’s Wordle is that while we both started the same, my second guess—DOILY—left me with just two possible solutions. When I ran the Wordle Bot analysis, it told me that my guess was bad and I should have used RANGY (which is what the Bot used) but as you can see, DOILY ended up being a much better guess. In any case, I could only come up with IDEAL (the other word was AILED) but that was the Wordle. Huzzah! Competitive Wordle Score Today's Wordle Bot Screenshot: Erik Kain Despite docking me “Skill” points for using DOILY, I beat the Bot today. I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for the win, and the Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. I have a near-insurmountable lead in October at this point (though I should probably not start counting my chickens). Today’s Wordle Etymology The word “ideal” comes from the Late Latin idealis, meaning “existing in idea,” which itself derives from Latin idea (“form, pattern, notion”) — borrowed from Greek idéa (ἰδέα), meaning “form,” “appearance,” or “kind.” Originally, “ideal” referred to something existing only in the mind or imagination, rather than in physical reality. By the 1600s, it came to mean “a perfect standard or model,” the sense we use today. Rutgers conservatives who challenged ‘Dr Antifa’ say they’re being punished as university backs professor

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Turning Point USA officers at Rutgers University are speaking out as university officials push to remove them from leadership roles and as the school’s senate overwhelmingly voted to support Antifa-aligned professor Mark Bray. "The message that we want to give out to students all across America is that this is the time that we need to speak our minds," Ava Kwan, the chapter’s outreach coordinator, told Fox News Digital in an interview Friday. On Friday, the Rutgers University Senate voted 110-4 in favor of passing the "Resolution in Support of Academic Freedom and Free Expression," to support Mark Bray, the author of "Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook," who has faced opposition for his pro-Antifa rhetoric. RUTGERS LEADER DEMANDS TPUSA OFFICERS BE OUSTED AFTER THEY CALLED OUT ANTIFA-LINKED PROFESSOR "This is the time that we stand firm in our beliefs and speak truth," Kwan said. "So I think this is a time where conservative students all over America need to start speaking their minds. It's time for us to speak the truth, it's time to be bold with our convictions, and that's exactly what we're doing here at Rutgers." "The only way that you can make a difference is by speaking out, start with a petition, start by addressing these concerns before you have a Rutgers administration like ours trying to take you down," Megyn Doyle, a student at Rutgers and the treasurer for the Turning Point USA chapter, told Fox News Digital in an interview. Kwan and Doyle are now facing possible removal from their TPUSA leadership roles, an issue which was raised only after the pair launched a petition calling for Bray’s removal. In an email obtained by Fox News Digital, Karima Woodyard, director for student involvement and leadership at Rutgers, said that both Megyn Doyle, a student at Rutgers and the treasurer for the Turning Point USA chapter, and Ava Kwan, the chapter’s outreach coordinator, should be removed from their officer positions and that a new election should be held. According to the email sent on Monday, Woodyard argued that neither Doyle nor Kwan were eligible to serve as officers. Earlier this month, Doyle launched a petition to remove Mark Bray, citing concerns over his past statements supporting Antifa. RUTGERS TURNING POINT USA CHAPTER LAUNCHES PETITION TO FIRE PROFESSOR THEY CALL ‘DR ANTIFA’ Bray, a Rutgers assistant professor, has written multiple books defending anarchist and Antifa movements, including, "The Anarchist Inquisition: Assassins, Activists, and Martyrs in Spain and France," and "Translating Anarchy: The Anarchism of Occupy Wall Street." In previous online posts, Bray has expressed strong support for "antifacism," saying in an Oct. 4 post on Bluesky, a social media app popular with liberals, "It’s true that sometimes the law holds back Trump and affords us some semblance of safety. But the more we lean into the law as our shield, the more powerful it will become as a sword when Trump changes it in his favor and wields it against us. Only mass antifascism, legal or not, can save us." In "Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook," Bray wrote, "Our goal should be that in twenty years those who voted for Trump are too uncomfortable to share that fact in public. We may not always be able to change someone’s beliefs, but we sure as hell can make it politically, socially, economically, and sometimes physically costly to articulate them." Bray recently announced he was moving his family to Europe "for safety reasons." Doyle told Fox News Digital that the opposition against them seems connected to their opposition of Bray. "The head of student involvement wants us removed from our positions because of our student status," Doyle said. "Ava Kwan is a graduate and I am a student from a different campus so that is why they want us removed. We have not been notified why we have been investigated all of a sudden and this has only been happening because of opposition towards Mark Bray." "She is claiming that we are ineligible to hold our positions due to a technicality of our students' statuses," Kwan added. "It's completely unfair. Prior to this whole situation, there was never an issue with Megyn and I's holding of our positions on the executive board. So this clearly seems like a very politically motivated move and a clear enforcement of procedure, a selective enforcement of procedure. And it's completely unfair and completely unjustified." Kwan, who has been doxxed on platforms like Reddit, said she is an advocate for free speech, but she felt it was necessary to act given Bray’s ties to Antifa. "Of course we want differing values, we want different beliefs, we want to have conversations with people," Kwan said. "That is what the First Amendment is all about. We want to have conversations, with people. However, Mark Bray has taken it a step further," she added. "He endorses political violence, he endorses preemptive political violence against who he deems and believes it's justified. We don't feel safe on campus with him around. We don't feel safe having him appointed at Rutgers. And we also don't think it's fair that his salary is being funded by New Jersey taxpayers." In a statement to Fox News Digital, Rutgers said, "Turning Point USA is a recognized student organization on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University. Like all student organizations, it is expected to operate in compliance with our stated policies and procedures." The Rutgers spokesperson added that "The university identified that two individuals presenting themselves publicly as officers of the TPUSA chapter were not properly registered as officers in accordance with university procedures. Additionally, these individuals do not meet the eligibility requirements for officer positions in a New Brunswick undergraduate student organization. The university is reviewing this internally and working with the chapter to address the compliance matter and ensure the organization's continued operations on campus, consistent with our approach to all student organizations." Fox News Digital reached out to Bray for comment. ‘DR ANTIFA’ RUTGERS PROFESSOR ANNOUNCES MOVE TO EUROPE AFTER TPUSA PETITION CALLS FOR HIS FIRING CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Why the right thinks everyone they don't like is a terrorist

Explaining the Right is a weekly series that looks at what the right wing is currently obsessing over, how it influences politics—and why you need to know. Republican lawmakers have been in overdrive the past two weeks, lashing out against Saturday’s “No Kings” protests. Instead of addressing the protestors’ main concern—President Donald Trump’s numerous abuses of power—Republicans have targeted the movement with over-the-top attacks. The GOP smears “No Kings” House Speaker Mike Johnson has insisted that the anti-Trump rallies are evidence of a “hate America” movement and are part of a supposed “pro-Hamas wing” of the Democratic Party. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy complained in one Fox News interview that the rallies would feature “paid protestors” and members of the “antifa” movement. These descriptions defy reality. The previous “No Kings” protests, which occurred in June, brought out an estimated 4-6 million people peacefully expressing their dissent, a far cry from the GOP’s nightmarish demagoguery. The latest round of smears echoes previous Republican arguments depicting their political opposition as terrorists or allied with terrorists. The smear isn’t new Trump loves to use this tactic. During the 2024 election cycle, Trump wasn’t satisfied with merely expressing his opposition to the Democratic Party. Instead, he insisted that an “enemy within” the country was a threat. Trump argued that the “enemy within” was such a problem that the “radical left lunatics” who were a part of it might need to be “handled” by the military and National Guard—a preview of his current policy. Years before that, in his first term, Trump promoted the false notion that public protests against him and investigations of his wrongdoing were the work of the so-called deep state. This theory, cribbed from fellow conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones, argues that entrenched bureaucracy is opposing his agenda and destabilizing the government, and that it is in cahoots with the Democratic Party and progressive movement. Trump and his acolytes are not alone in embracing this tactic and rhetoric. In 2005, as the United States was deeply engaged in the Iraq War, then-President George W. Bush’s senior adviser Karl Rove made a similar charge. In a speech, Rove said, “Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.” This was meant to characterize opposition to the war as giving aid and comfort to the al-Qaida terrorist group. In reality, there was no connection between the Iraqi government and the 9/11 attacks, nor was the Middle Eastern nation in possession of weapons of mass destruction, which the Bush administration used to justify the war. The fearmongering was the product of disinformation by Rove, Bush, and others in the administration. Smears instead of an argument Equating political opposition with terrorism is part of the Republican scheme to squelch dissent and stigmatize those who deviate from GOP orthodoxy. The party’s strategy against dissent can also be seen in its effort to gerrymander congressional districts in a manner that overrepresents Republicans in Congress. The same tactic was also recently showcased when the Trump-appointed head of the Federal Communications Commission sought to silence comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who regularly mocks Trump. By invoking terrorism where it doesn’t exist, the GOP is nakedly attempting to deflect the public attention from the opposition’s arguments, without the party having to honestly confront and rebut them. Conservatism’s support for violence and fakery All the while, the conservative movement often has an element of fakery and extremism attached to it. In the 2010s, the “tea party” movement meant to oppose the actions of the Obama administration were depicted as grassroots. But much of it was funded by wealthy Republican donors, like the Koch brothers, who sought to decrease government oversight of their business empires. Conservatism, led by Trump at the moment, has regularly embraced bigoted stunts. And Trump allies himself with violent groups like the Proud Boys, infamously telling them in 2020 to “stand back and stand by.” Republicans have struggled to persuade a majority of the public to embrace their extremist agenda. While the party has had success at winning elections, most people support a safety net, oppose racism and misogyny, and don’t want the government intruding on their personal lives. Instead of working to get voters on board with its far-right agenda, Republicans find it easier to brand peaceful, pro-democracy protesters as the real terrorists. But that doesn’t make it true.

Daughter Discovers Mother's Secret Scrapbook Filled with Disturbing Photos from Her Past

Coming home from college is supposed to bring temporary and familiar comfort — but for one 22-year-old woman, it turned into an unexpected confrontation with her past. What started as a search for wrapping paper led to a disturbing discovery that left her questioning her relationship with her mother. “I was looking for wrapping paper in her craft closet and found a scrapbook labeled ‘Our Journey,’” she explained in a Reddit post. At first glance, it appeared to be a sentimental collection of childhood photos – until the pages began to take a darker turn. Instead of birthday parties and school plays, the scrapbook was filled with moments of pain and vulnerability from the Redditor's past: screenshots of social media posts about her depression, a photo of her crying after her first breakup, even a picture from the night she came home drunk and threw up. “I didn’t even know she took that,” the Reddit user wrote. The captions made the experience even more surreal. Beneath these deeply personal images were phrases like: “Even in pain, she’s so strong,” and “The night she realized life isn’t easy.” It was as if her most private struggles had been reframed into poetic captions for someone else’s narrative. For the daughter, the scrapbook felt less like a tribute and more like a betrayal. “It felt like she’d turned my pain into art for herself,” she emphasized. But when she confronted her mother, she was met with a response that only deepened her discomfort. “It’s how I process watching you grow up,” her mother told her, adding, “I’m the one who lived through your struggles too.” While her mother may have viewed it as a form of connection, the act came across as invasive. “I’m so disturbed. I can’t look at her the same,” the daughter admitted, a sentiment many readers could understand. “Who documents their kid’s trauma like a scrapbook?” she questioned. Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Reddit users rushed to the comment section, validating the original poster’s feelings. “That’s not love, that’s ownership. Your mom doesn’t see you as a person, she sees you as a character in her story,” one wrote. “Turning your pain into a performance piece is emotional voyeurism, not maternal pride. You’re right to feel violated.” Another highlighted that if a parent wanted to “process” their child’s growth, they wouldn’t choose to document their lowest moments, adding, “You would pick important milestones and happy memories. Sounds like you being miserable brings her some kind of sick joy."

How Companies Can Get An Edge In Finance With AI

A businessman stands at the top of a mountain of money as he holds a large orange flag attached to a pole. Artificial intelligence is changing finance in a big way. Firms are trying to figure out how to get a competitive edge, and keep it, as previously impossible tasks and analysis become not just possible, but in many cases, easy. Presumably, individuals are trying to do this, too. The best example is probably market forecasting. If you know a way to prompt an AI to successfully predict stock activity, Burton Malkiel’s “random walk on Wall Street” becomes – well, something else. Here’s how writers explain it at AI Edge Daily, where there’s a roundup of related articles on financial change in the AI era. “For those who want to invest but don’t have the time (or knowledge) to do it manually, AI is stepping in. Robo-advisors like Betterment, Wealthfront, and even some newer blockchain-based platforms now use AI to optimize portfolios based on user goals and market conditions. Instead of paying high fees to a traditional advisor, users can access diversified portfolios, automatic rebalancing, and tax-loss harvesting — all powered by algorithms. In 2025, AI doesn’t just manage investments; it adjusts them proactively based on risk profiles, financial goals, and real-time data.” But beyond just market predictions (which is huge) there are other innovations to apply, too: banks are using AI for fraud detection, financial planning, and high-frequency trading (maybe another flavor of market manipulation, but with its own bailiwick), not to mention compliance, and customer-facing tasks. MORE FOR YOU So, in this scenario, how do companies stand out in finance? Notes on Competitive Finance Business with AI Forbes CCO Randall Lane interviewed a panel on just this question. Rishi Nair of Diddo, David Cushman of HFS, and Orby CEO Bella Liu discussed how things are changing, and what strategies are likely to win the day. Nair spoke on the value of personalizing services. I think that … the reason that we love social media companies so much is because of the incredible personalization that each one of those companies has on ourselves,” he said. “I think that as personalization gets extrapolated into different companies, and we're able to have our own experiences, wherever we're interacting with technology, that's when you can start saying that this technology knows me, this technology is able to really get where I'm coming from, and having that sort of relationship with what I'm being able to use and where I'm going allows me to trust the technology a lot more. Personalization is trust, at the end of the day.” Liu pointed out the necessity of the human in the loop, noting the fundamental flaws of fully autonomous solutions in finance. “You have to have the human actually touch the process,” she said. “You cannot really have AI agents just go around autonomously and do the work.” Where We’re Headed Later, Cushman addressed questions about the current trajectory of AI in the markets. Companies, he noted, tend to get stuck in what he called “pilot purgatory,” unable to move toward full deployment and next steps. “It's about between 5% and 12% that get out of that,” he said, “so we're talking about the firms that are actually making an impact with AI. I think of those, we're now going to see quite a significant uptick in their uptake of AI, because there's a small group of those firms, they tend to be firms that have already been through a significant scale (of) digital transformation, and … they trust firms that they've done those digital transformations with, and they're now ready to invest in the next (way).” Scared of Mistakes Balancing the ideas of trust and speed, the panel talked about how to bring solutions to market, how to develop projects, and ultimately, how to listen to users. Liu tied the concept of risk mitigation to experiences she cited with users where the users want to “slow” the program down, in order to better understand its operations. “When we work with AI, to infuse AI in some of the workflows, you enter data into a lot of different systems, and the AI actually can do a really good job, like sometimes even about 100% accuracy,” she said. “And you can (make) the AI agent run very fast, just to automate those soul-crushing data entry jobs for you.” However, she noted, even though the speed is more efficient, in some contexts, users want it to run slower. “In the user research, what we learn is that the users actually prefer you to slow down the AI agents, so they can exactly see how the AI is entering the data, step by step,” she said. “And they can follow along, they feel that they can intervene when there's a potential for mistake, and then they are fully in control as a human. So the users actually are happier that way.” “As long as there's an agentic flow to make the hairiness not suck as much as it does, that's where AI can be really useful,” Nair added. “I think using the AI agent after a human, or some human in the loop has said, ‘Yes, I want you to do this,’ or ‘yes, this is exactly how I want you to do this,’ and then that is done 100% … I think it's just the human in the loop that leads to trust.” Watch the video for the rest, including how the panel, led by Lane, ponders how companies get “alpha” with products and services, leveraging AI to its potential. This is big stuff, and will determine how the AI rush shakes out among companies. When the panel discussed the likely position of incumbents, for example, some pointed out that although these traditional firms might not be as versatile or quick to innovate, they will have an edge in terms of the auspices of an industry. Liu pointed out how the incumbents will have the “domain experience,” and, often, a customer base. So what are the moats? What will competitive development look like? This panel helped me to build a road map, when it comes to the impact of AI in these kinds of markets. Stay tuned for more. Editorial StandardsReprints & Permissions

McDonald's worker shoots customer in neck during 'McMess' altercation, Florida sheriff says

A Florida sheriff called an altercation involving a worker and two customers at a McDonald’s in Polk County last weekend a "McMess" after it left one of the men with a minor gunshot wound to the neck. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd explained in a video posted to social media that a McDonald’s in the area had become inundated with online orders after several events in the area let out early Sunday morning. Judd said the worker, Yoan Soto, 21, "politely" told Nicholas Jones, 18, and Peter Story, 20, who had pulled into the drive-thru, "‘Hey, sorry guys, we’re way behind. Our online orders are overwhelming us.’" He said after Soto told the two men that the store couldn’t take their order, they allegedly started threatening him. VIDEO SHOWS GUNMAN ‘LYING IN WAIT’ TO AMBUSH BUSINESSMAN OUTSIDE ESTATE AS POLICE HUNT SHOOTER: PROSECUTOR "’We’re going to hang out here,’" they allegedly said. "‘When you get off, we are going to beat you up.’ They threatened to attack the man who just told them, ‘We’re busy, we can’t take any more orders,’ and he did that because the manager told him to. They threatened him with violence." Soto told the men he didn’t get off work until 4 a.m., and he went back to work. "What do these goober smoochers do?" Judd continued, adding that Jones and Story then parked and entered the restaurant. "And they continue to threaten," he said. "They’re having a McArgument in the McDonald’s over McHamburgers or lack of McHamburgers." He said either Story or Jones allegedly said they had a "switch," a "30-clip," and Soto replied that he also had a gun. He said the manager stepped in between the three men to stop the "McRabble." "So, they continue to threaten a mass shooting cause there’s customers there with their firearms," Judd said, adding that Soto went to get his gun and threatened Jones and Story with it in the main part of the store. WATCH: FOOD ORDER MIX-UP TRIGGERS BRAWL AT BURGER JOINT, LEADING TO SEVEN ARRESTS The manager of the McDonald’s told Story and Jones to leave because they were trespassing, but Jones claimed that only law enforcement can declare he’s trespassing, which Judd clarified isn’t the case. As the two men tried to grab Soto’s gun, he pulled the trigger and shot Story in the neck, Judd said. "It’s a blessing that it was a very minor wound, but you know what? When you start shooting McGuns, you’ll get people’s attention, and they’ll let you McHave the restaurant and that’s what they did," Judd said. Jones then drove Story to a hospital and called the police. Soto fled but was called back to the restaurant when deputies arrived, Judd explained, adding that Soto cooperated and has been charged with felony tampering with evidence. Story and Jones were charged with trespass after warning and disorderly conduct. "Listen folks, it’s never OK to threaten a mass shooting. It’s never OK to threaten to beat people up at a business. And it’s never OK to grab your ammunition and your firearm and run after a shooting," Judd said. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP He added that Soto did have a right to stand his ground and protect himself, "and these guys are threatening to do violence after they’ve already threatened on the outside of the store and came inside." "They created a well-founded fear in him and the store manager," he said. "It was just a McMess. But we’ll sort it out, because we’re McGood at investigating McCrime."

Man, Who Walks 5 Miles to Work and Back Every Day, Plans to Use Lottery Winnings to Change That

After walking his usual five-mile route home from work, a man from Dundee, Scotland, was met with a shocking surprise. Mark Crawford, 49, returned home to his wife of nearly 12 years, Clair, to find that his £15 entry in the Omaze Monthly Millionaire Draw had become £1 million (about $1.3 million) before his very eyes. “It was just a normal Friday night. I'd finished work, done my usual walk home, and was ready for dinner — the last thing I was expecting was to open the door and find out we'd become millionaires,” Mark told lottery officials, per the Daily Mail. “My wife just kept saying, ‘I can't think straight — I've no words.’ She was completely shell-shocked. We both were.” As for what the couple plans to do with their completely tax-free winnings? Along with making his commute to work a bit easier, Mark expressed that he and Clair, 57, had “always wanted to do more traveling” to places like the Scottish Highlands, Cornwall, England, and even Norway. “We have a rusty old camper van that keeps breaking down, so first on the list is a shiny new camper van,” Mark explained. “We don't even have passports at the moment, so before we buy the new camper, we'd better get those sorted.” He continued: “Our ultimate dream is to visit Japan. It's always been on the list — and now, as Clair said, we could actually afford the travel insurance. It's just lifted such a weight. We can pay off our overdraft and stop worrying about money every month. It's the best feeling in the world.” In fact, the couple, who met in London before moving back to Mark’s native Scotland in 2011, had been “talking about downsizing to save costs” before they decided to play the lottery. “Now we can start thinking about a new start, maybe even move somewhere that feels fresh,” Mark said, per the Daily Mail. “When we left London all those years ago, we always thought we'd never be able to get back there as it's just so expensive, but now we can. Our daughter is there, and the idea of being closer to her is so exciting.” He added of his social worker wife, “Clair's spent her career helping others, and she said the best thing about winning is we'll be able to help other people close to us.” Along with bringing fortune to one lucky winner each month, Omaze also raises money for charities across the U.K. Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. “Everyone at Omaze is thrilled to be celebrating another Monthly Millionaire — huge congratulations to Mark and Clair for becoming our latest £1 million winners! We're so happy for them and their family,” James Oakes, president of Omaze, said in a statement, per the Daily Mail. “Omaze offers people the chance to win incredible prizes whilst also introducing charities to vast new audiences they wouldn't normally reach — it's a real win-win for entrants and for our charity partners," Oakes added.

Family members worried after residents moved from group homes (Canada)

Family members of people living in a number of Greater Toronto Area group homes are asking Ontario's premier for help after their loved ones were moved into a new facility without their consent due to a labour dispute. Central West Specialized Development Services — a provincially funded supportive living community for adults with developmental disabilities — says it temporarily moved residents of homes in Burlington, Georgetown, Halton Hills, Mississauga and Oakville into its main Oakville facility in the event of a strike by its support workers. The workers, represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, requested a "no board" report and put the employer in the position of a legal lockout position as of Oct. 9. In a post on their website on Thursday, the union says it is not in a legal position to strike yet as members have not taken a strike vote. A letter, which is dated Oct. 17 and signed by more than a dozen family members of CWSDS residents, asks the premier to return their loved ones to their regular homes to familiar surroundings and daily routines “with staff who know how best to support them.” Sheree Burnett, whose son Jay Gualtieri has lived at a CWSDS facility in Oakville for about 12 years, is one of those signatories, and said she was given just three-days notice before the moving process began. She said Jay, who is 35 and has autism, has asked staff to take him back to his regular home every day after being moved. Moving is one of the most stressful experiences for anyone but for people with special needs it's even worse, Burnett said. She said people with developmental disabilities thrive best with a routine, which she said has been seriously disrupted by placing them in a new environment with people and staff they don't know. "When someone with special needs goes through a move, it only becomes more stressful for them, she said. "It's just completely traumatic. They don't understand. They're confused, they're scared." Before he was moved, Jay was one of five people living together. He is now one of 12 people at the temporary arrangement at the main group home — an arrangement that comes with double the staff as well, Burnett said. Burnett said Jay came home for Thanksgiving and he was "really off the whole weekend." "He was really upset. Banging doors. He was just not himself set up like that," she said, adding that Jay was also having a hard time sleeping. Rabia Khedr, whose brother lives in the main Oakville home, said she's also concerned about the sudden increase in people living with her brother. He got five more housemates when residents were moved, with the new residents staying in repurposed activity rooms. "None of us were consulted. Our family members did not give consent because they cannot independently give consent. They need supported decision making. And we are their natural support," Khedr said. Khedr and Burnett said the sudden change in staffing could be dangerous for residents. Many of the residents of the homes are non-verbal and communicate in different ways. They rely on support workers who know them to ensure they get the care they need, they said. "A stranger couldn't begin to understand what they're saying or what they want," Burnett said. "(Temporary workers) may misinterpret their communication for something negative as opposed to understanding this person might be in pain and struggling," Khedr added. "This has actually happened to my brother in the past where he ended up going by ambulance to hospital and needed emergency surgery." They both questioned how well trained temporary workers would be, if called in. Burnett said she's heard from some family members who have considered removing their loved ones from the homes altogether in the event temporary workers come in. She has also considered this, but at 69, she said it would be challenging. "I don't have the energy I had when I was younger," she said. In a news release, the group of family members said they brought their concerns to Robert Lattanzio, the executive director of ARCH Disability Law Centre. “It is unconscionable for people with disabilities, in violation of their rights and with the potential for devastating consequences, to be moved from their homes without their consent as a way to navigate an evolving labour dispute,” Lattanzio said in the release. In a statement to The Canadian Press, the Ministry of Children, Family and Community Services did not address the families' concerns, but said collective bargaining is a matter between the employer and union. "The ministry requires agencies to develop a contingency plan, which identifies potential alternative courses of action, while ensuring the safety, health and well-being of staff and those who receive services during a service disruption,” ministry spokesperson Chris Clarke wrote. CWSDS CEO Patricia Kyle said the decision to move residents from their facilities into the central Oakville location “was not a decision we made lightly” and ensures there will be enough staff to provide round-the-clock care in the event of a potential labour disruption. "We bear a responsibility to the individuals we support to prepare for the potential of a labour disruption by members of OPSEU," Kyle wrote in a statement.
