Martin Lewis: Money Saving Expert shares 'best long energy fix' that locks in rates 9% under Price Cap

Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert team has revealed the cheapest long energy fix currently available. The E.ON Next ‘Next Fixed 18m v19’ tariff lets customers lock in prices 9% below the current Price Cap for 18 monthsThe deal includes £30 MSE cashback (£15 for electricity-only) and is open to new and existing customersIt’s ideal for those wanting long-term price certainty without frequent switching — though there’s a £75 exit fee per fuelThe cashback offer closes at 5pm on Tuesday, November 4, so households need to act quickly to secure the rate Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis has highlighted what his team is calling the cheapest long energy fix currently on the market. The E.on Next “Next Fixed 18m v19” tariff is available now to both new and existing customers, and it could help households lock in prices below the current Energy Price Cap for the next year and a half. It offers energy rates around 9% cheaper than the current Price Cap, and crucially, that rate is guaranteed for 18 months. For anyone who’s tired of switching every few months or anxious about what happens to bills next spring, Lewis’ team say this could be “a winner if you want longer-term price certainty.” With energy prices expected to fluctuate over the next year, this deal offers a rare opportunity to lock in below-cap rates for the long term, giving households a bit of breathing room and predictability at a time when bills remain stubbornly high. How does the deal work? The deal is open to dual-fuel and electricity-only customers who pay by monthly Direct Debit, and comes with a boosted £30 cashback through MoneySavingExpert’s Cheap Energy Club (£15 for electricity-only). The offer closes at 5pm on Tuesday, November 4, so those interested need to act quickly. While the tariff isn’t capped to usage, meaning exact savings depend on where you live and how much energy you use, the MSE team has confirmed that this is the cheapest long fix currently available. Importantly, it doesn’t require a smart meter, making it accessible to more households. There are £75 per-fuel exit fees, so it’s best suited to those confident they want to stay put until the deal ends in mid-2027. But for those wanting stability, Lewis’ team say that might be a price worth paying. As always, MoneySavingExpert recommends using its Cheap Energy Club comparison tool to check whether this tariff beats what you’re currently paying. How to sign up Visit E.ON Next’s fixed tariff page (“Fixed tariffs” section). Select the “Next Fixed 18m v19” (or equivalent) deal, making sure it’s the correct 18-month fixed term.Enter your postcode, fuel type (dual‐fuel or electricity only), monthly Direct Debit payment details, and usage/household information so you get a quote specific to your location and consumption. Confirm you’re eligible; the offer is open to both new and existing customers and covers dual‐fuel and electricity-only plans.Accept the terms, including the exit fee (£75 per fuel on this version of the deal) and the start date of your fixed term.Submit the agreement. After switching, keep proof of the cashback offer (£30 for dual fuel / £15 for electricity only through the MSE deal - the cut‐off for which is at 5pm on Tuesday, November 4). Follow the MSE instructions to claim your bonus. Martin Lewis continues to be one of the shining voices in money saving and personal finance, explaining everything from how to bag a £25 Christmas boost at supermarkets, to the ‘legal bribe’ money move that could get you £400.

Montha: Minister Lokesh’s Call for Swift Action to Restore Power in Affected Localities

Vijayawada: Education minister Nara Lokesh has asked officials to ensure swift action to restore power in the rain-affected localities and ensure immediate relief to the people.Lokesh conducted a review meeting at the RTGS Control Centre on the impact of the Montha cyclone across Andhra Pradesh. He assessed the situation with senior officials and directed them to complete preliminary estimates of damage at the earliest. The minister enquired about restoration of electricity supply in the cyclone-hit regions, especially in Konaseema, Krishna, Bapatla, NTR and Prakasam districts, where power disruption has been reported from several areas. The ruling alliances’ public representatives and local leaders must remain on the ground and participate in relief and rehabilitation efforts, he said. Later, he held a teleconference from the secretariat with district collectors. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, chief secretary K. Vijayanand and RTGS secretary Katamneni Bhaskar were present. The minister directed the district administrations to remain on high alert for Thursday as well, and clear silt and debris from roads with the help of the fire services personnel. Officials must strive to restore power supply to all affected residential and commercial establishments and assess crop losses caused by the heavy rains. He sought detailed reports on loss of lives and damage to infrastructure. There must be inspection of bridges, culverts etc and reinforcement of damaged tanks, ponds and canal embankments. Lokesh also emphasized preventive action to check the spread of epidemics in submerged areas and keep anti-venom medicines ready. Maintaining sanitation, ensuring access to safe drinking water and supplying essential commodities to fishermen and affected families in cyclone-hit zones are priority matters, he said.

Blockbuster Bluster: Reality Belies The Hype

Blockbuster Bluster: Reality Belies The Hype

Thamma is not a hit. From Wednesday, theatres across India are offering a ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ ticket scheme — and the film is just into its second week. Does that sound like a blockbuster? “No!” says Kumar Abhishek, manager, Connplex, Patna, who reluctantly agreed to go on record. “Everywhere they are celebrating the success of Thamma. The truth is, after a fairly good start, the collections have gone downhill. I would like to ask the producers in which part of the country Thamma is a success. Earlier, Kantara Chapter 1 was hailed as a blockbuster, but it did much less business than the first part. Jolly LLB 3 is a good film, but it was not a success, although Akshay Kumar’s fan club and the film’s producers wanted the public to believe otherwise. How do producers compute the profit margin and conclude that their film is a success?” Thamma has underperformed severely everywhere. It collected approximately `4 crore on the seventh day of its release. The movie has earned `96 crore in total in its first week, which is far below the expected numbers. But the perception of Thamma being a blockbuster is being created by bulk bookings, paid reviews and sponsored box office reports. A leading producer, known for a series of trendsetting films, admits to having “massive reservations” about the publicised commercial success of Thamma and Kantara. “The producers are creating the perception that Thamma is a nationwide rage when in fact the film’s collection has dipped drastically. This is a very alarming trend in the film industry: a perception of success is generated through sponsored hype and bulk bookings. How many films this year have actually attained blockbuster status? Chhaava and maybe a few more. Others are hits on paper only,” he says. Many prominent trade analysts declined to comment. One of them actually confessed they were “committed” to building up the film’s performance “beyond what it is.” “There are only two genuine hits in Hindi this year so far — Chhaava and Saiyaara. All the other so-called hits are just hype generated by paid reviews and sponsored trade analyses,” says Roshan Singh, a prominent film exhibitor in Bihar. It is no different in Telugu cinema. Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu was an outright flop and his They Call Him OG is being touted as a success though the box office collection is way short of expectations. Vijay Devarakonda’s fans are “celebrating” the success of his Kingdom when in fact the film has lost serious money. Shekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa, another supposed hit, lost a huge amount of money in both Telugu and Tamil versions. Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Rajinikanth starrer, the ostensible money spinner Coolie, suffered such heavy losses that the proposed sequel was hastily dropped.

Guntur Collector Crosses Overflowing Stream on Tractor to Reach Flood-Hit Villages

Vijayawada: In a remarkable display of commitment, Guntur district collector A. Thamim Ansaria rode a tractor across an overflowing stream at Varagani village to reach flood-hit areas and interact with affected residents. She toured several cyclone-affected localities in Prattipadu, Pedanandipadu, and Kakumanu mandals on Wednesday to assess the post-cyclone situation. As the stream at Varagani was flowing dangerously high, road connectivity to the flood-hit habitations was completely cut off. Locals informed the collector that only tractors could pass through the water flow, prompting her to travel by tractor to inspect the affected areas firsthand. Villagers expressed their appreciation for the collector’s courage and briefed her on their hardships. Thamim Ansaria assured them that their grievances would be addressed promptly. At Prattipadu, the collector inspected the Kondaveedu Valley stream and reviewed desilting works in irrigation canals. She also visited the rehabilitation centre set up at the Zilla Parishad High School and enquired about the facilities provided to displaced families. Later, she examined the Nakkalavagu and Mekalavagu streams from a tractor and supervised flood management works near the Nandipadu–Nallavagu bridge.During her visit to the Pedanandipadu rehabilitation centre, the collector interacted with farmers who reported severe crop losses, particularly to cotton and chilli fields. Farmers also expressed concern over limited urea availability. They complained that canals along R&B roads had not been desilted for years, resulting in waterlogging and road inundation. They urged officials to deepen the Nakkalavagu and Mekalavagu to prevent recurring floods and transport disruptions.Speaking to the media, Thamim Ansaria said that crop loss assessment would be completed within two days and that all post-cyclone relief works were being expedited. She instructed officials to ensure proper sanitation and continuous monitoring at causeways while power restoration was underway. The collector added that 84 uprooted trees were being cleared and that no untoward incidents had been reported. She said 9,000 people were sheltered in 153 rehabilitation centres and essential relief kits were being readied. The government, she noted, had sanctioned Rs 1,000 per individual and up to Rs 3,000 per family for those staying in the camps.

Satya Kumar Urges Public To Maintain Hygiene To Prevent Spread Of Diseases After Cyclone Montha

VIJAYAWADA: Minister for health Satya Kumar Yadav has urged people to maintain personal hygiene and keep their surroundings clean to prevent the spread of contagious diseases in the aftermath of Cyclone Montha. Speaking here on Wednesday, the minister advised the public to drink only boiled and filtered water and remain vigilant over the next four days. He said that nearly 2,500 pregnant women in advanced stages of delivery had been shifted to nearby hospitals. Special medical camps have been set up in rehabilitation centres to provide healthcare to those affected by the cyclone. Anti-snake venom, anti-rabies vaccine, and other emergency medicines have been stocked in district hospitals based on requirements. In addition, boat clinics have been deployed in fishermen’s colonies, along with 108 and 104 ambulances. He noted that 99.1 per cent of doctors and health staff reported for duty as per the newly issued standard operating procedures of the health department. The minister appreciated Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for initiating a series of proactive measures, drawing upon his vast experience in disaster management, to ensure there was no major loss of life or property in the state. He added that the instructions issued from the RTGS—from the state level down to the village level—yielded effective results in tackling the cyclone.

Hearts adopt key Tony Bloom trait already as former AC Milan and Monaco striker makes lofty title declaration

Mark Hateley reckons Hearts have set the title race standard in Scotland’s Premiership this season. The former, AC Milan, Rangers and Monaco striker has been watching on amid turmoil in Glasgow, and joy in Edinburgh. Hearts have raced into an eight-point lead at the top of the league after Sunday’s 3-1 win versus Celtic, and boss Brendan Rodgers has since resigned as manager of the current champions. Danny Rohl has arrived as Rangers head coach after Russell Martin’s summer appointment proved calamitous, leaving the Light Blues with just two league wins so far this term. Amid investment from Tony Bloom and the management of Derek McInnes, Hateley reckons Hearts’ title credentials are there for all to see. He’s made a silverware statement over the Jambos who he feels have taken on Tony Bloom’s image already. He said, in an interview with BetWright , when asked how seriously Hearts’ title hopes must be taken: “Very, very seriously. Derek ticks all the boxes for me, knows the Scottish game inside out. He knows the game well in other areas as well and it was a great appointment by Hearts. “Especially the link-up now, obviously with the new investment, with data and analytics. You can actually see that straight away, the way the team are playing, very much like Brighton. Very much on the front foot. “I know stats aren’t everything but the possession rate was low but the energy that Hearts do give out in the middle to last third is pretty intense and ball-winning, and match-winning. I'm going to say anybody that needs to win the league will need to finish above Hearts.” He added on Rangers’ ability to challenge Hearts: “I know Danny from his time at Sheffield Wednesday, probably that's the earliest I've got to see him and what he can do and his effect on a team or a group of players or a football club in general. I think what he did at Wednesday was quite remarkable under the circumstances. “Trying to keep the fans onside against an owner that probably wouldn't work with him or didn't want to work with him. It got to a stage where, you know, it was management, players and fans, trying to achieve stuff. He's proactive which is good, and is very dissimilar to Russell Martin, I think. He's prepared. “I think one of his interviewing lines was what sort of formation are you going to play if you get the job? He said I can't tell you that until I see who my best players are. That is the art of a good coach. You find out what you can do with your best players and you put a formation around that so you can get the best out of that. I think you saw that at the weekend. I saw it instantly, literally, the higher press, winning the ball further forward.”

Stumble Guys honours young fan with new wheelchair-using character

Stumble Guys is set to introduce its first wheelchair-using character The inclusion was inspired by a recent visit to Scopely from young fan Fayçal The character is inspired by superhero visuals and Olympiad-style wheelchair designs The topic of accessibility in gaming is a lengthy, and sometimes controversial, one. But I think that it's fair to say people with disabilities want to see themselves represented. And surprisingly (in a good way), the folks at Scopely have gone ahead with a brand-new character in Stumble Guys to honour a young fan. This new character was inspired by a visit from avid Stumble Guys fan Fayçal to Scopely's Barcelona studio. On his visit, one of the topics that he brought up was why there weren't any characters in wheelchairs in Stumble Guys. Particularly pertinent for Fayçal, who has a disability that often necessitates the use of a wheelchair. Inspired by this, the folks at Scopely set about introducing a new character to Stumble Guys. This new skin is inspired by both superheroes and the style of wheelchair often used by athletes, which perfectly fits into the fast-paced action of Stumble Guys. New additions for accessibility The new skin certainly doesn't feel like it was slapped together overnight, and hopefully, it lets players like Fayçal see and feel themselves being represented in something as widely played as Stumble Guys. While you're here, if you want to keep up with all the news, we've got you covered. US Olympian and other fencers file class-action lawsuit against USA Fencing for alleged trans athlete incident

FIRST ON FOX: U.S. Olympic fencer Margherita Guzzi Vincenti, alongside fellow competitive women's fencers Emma Griffin and Patricia Hughes, have filed a class-action lawsuit against USA Fencing over an alleged incident at the 2025 North American Cup (NAC) in Kansas City, Missouri, in January. Vincenti, Griffin and Hughes alleged USA Fencing knowingly permitted biological males to compete in women’s divisions while advertising events as female-only, including in competitions involving athletes under the age of 18. "Because Defendant USFA’s youth and cadet policy authorized self-identification ‘without restriction’ and lacked any verification mechanism, biological males under 16 were permitted, and could have been expected, to compete in the women’s event," the lawsuit alleged. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM "Defendant USFA also does not disclose to members or participants whether transgender or non-binary athletes are entered in a given event, leaving female athletes and parents unable to make informed participation decisions." The lawsuit also alleged the organization did not enforce its own previous policy of only allowing males to compete in the women's category after completing one year of testosterone-suppression treatment. "On information and belief, Defendant USFA never implemented any system to monitor or verify compliance with this requirement. In practice, this lack of oversight allowed biological males to register for and compete in women’s events regardless of whether they had completed any hormone-suppression treatment," the lawsuit alleges. USA Fencing provided a statement to Fox News Digital responding to the lawsuit. "USA Fencing is aware of the class‑action complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri on Oct. 29, and we strongly dispute its allegations. We will address this matter through the legal process and have no further comment at this time," the statement read. Guzzi, who competed for the Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, said she joined the lawsuit to protect the integrity of her sport. "Fencing has been my life since I was a child," she said. "I have trained and competed with the expectation that women’s competitions are for women. It is about fairness and preserving opportunities for girls and women who dedicate their lives to competing on equal terms." Hughes, a veteran with 20 years of experience, expressed similar concern. "I have seen women’s fencing grow from a niche sport to one where female athletes can thrive internationally," Hughes said. "That progress only continues if fairness is enforced. The next generation of girls deserves the same level playing field that inspired us decades ago." WHO IS STEPHANIE TURNER? WOMEN'S FENCER WHO KNELT TO PROTEST TRANS OPPONENT AND IGNITED GLOBAL AWARENESS Griffin, a standout NCAA competitor, said young athletes deserve honesty and clarity from national governing bodies. "We pay entry fees, travel across the country, and commit years to training," Griffin said. "We deserve to know the rules and trust that women’s events are truly women’s events. It is about respect for athletes and transparency from the organizations that govern our sport." The suit argues that USA Fencing is an educational institution subject to Title IX, and therefore violated it by allowing males to compete in the girls' and women's category. The suit seeks to argue this by alleging the organization listed itself as an educational service organization twice in 2020 and 2021 on its applications for a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan during the COVID-19 pandemic, and because the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) receives direct federal funding, including taxpayer-derived appropriations, PPP forgivable loans, and funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The plaintiffs are being represented by Mahdavi, Bacon, Halfhill & Young PLLC and The Dhillon Law Group. "Title IX was enacted to ensure equal athletic opportunities for women," said attorney Karin Sweigart of The Dhillon Law Group, "Our clients are not asking for special treatment, only for the fairness and integrity that women’s sports have long promised. Attorney Charles Wang of Mahdavi Bacon and pro bono general counsel of Fair Fencing Organization said, "By allowing biological men to compete in a women’s event, USA Fencing violated Title IX by depriving women of their own sport that women had fought for over one hundred years to have." Attorney James Bacon added "this case is about restoring trust, transparency, and compliance with federal law." Former USA Fencing board chair Damien Lehfeldt is also listed as a defendant. Fox News Digital has reached out to Lehfeldt for comment. Lehfeldt was replaced as chair last weekend after he chose not to seek re-election. In Lehfeldt's announcement that he would not seek re-election, he cited "lawsuits" and "death threats" as a reason for his decision. Lehfeldt has been at the center of controversy for USA Fencing dating back to April when women's fencer Stephanie Turner went viral for kneeling in protest of a transgender fencer, and was disqualified. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP The incident prompted a federal subpoena of Lehfeldt to a congressional hearing to explain the organization's policy on transgender athletes. Then, former Olympic coach and board member Andrey Geva and former Olympic fencer Abdel Salem sued Lehfeldt for allegedly making "false statements" at the hearing. USA Fencing then changed its transgender participation policy in July to only permit female competitors to participate in the women's category. The change was made to ensure compliance with the USOPC's new athlete safety policy, which now cites President Donald Trump's "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports" executive order. VMC Sets Up 41 Relief Camps As Cyclone Montha Batters Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: As heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Montha lashed Vijayawada, the Municipal Corporation swung into action with large-scale relief and safety measures. City mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi said that a total of 41 rehabilitation centres have been set up across the city’s three Assembly constituencies for residents of hilly and vulnerable areas. According to figures available on Wednesday, 349 residents have taken shelter at these centres — 178 in Circle-I, 115 in Circle-II, and 53 in Circle-III. The mayor stated that the corporation is fully committed to supporting those affected by the rains. Each relief camp has been equipped with toilets and round-the-clock medical assistance provided through the District Medical and Health Office. Many residents are taking meals at these centres, while some are staying overnight. VMC commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra said that civic teams are working continuously to ensure that rainwater does not stagnate on the roads. High-powered air-tech machines, gulpers, oil engines, and motor pumps are being deployed across Bhavanipuram, Governorpet, Surya Rao Peta, Jammichettu Centre, Prasadampadu, and other low-lying areas. Four pump sets have been stationed near the Government Hospital in Governorpet to prevent flooding and ensure unhindered access for patients. The commissioner added that silt removal from drains and desilting of outfall channels are being carried out on a war footing. Around 93 uprooted trees were cleared from city roads following Tuesday night’s gales, and more than 500 people were shifted to safer locations. During a field visit, Dhyanachandra inspected Bandar Road, Loyola College Road, Eluru Road, Bharathi Nagar, and Fortune Murali Park areas. He directed officials to remove fallen trees immediately and instructed monsoon response teams to remain on high alert across the city.
