Indian shares drop on caution over US rate trajectory, Trump-Xi trade deal

Indian shares fell on Thursday as investor sentiment cooled after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell raised doubts over a December rate reduction following a 25-basis-point cut, while caution over the U.S.-China deal weighed on other Asian markets. The Nifty 50 fell 0.68% to 25,877.85 and the BSE Sensex lost 0.7% to 84,404.46. Despite the drop on the day, the Nifty and Sensex have gained about 5.2% each in October and are trading nearly 1.5% and 1.8%, respectively, below their all-time highs hit in September 2024. Powell’s statements, which indicated that Wednesday’s cut could likely be the last one this year due to the lack of official data during the ongoing federal government shutdown, prompted some caution, according to analysts. Other Asian markets fell 0.4% as investors worried that the tariff detente between the U.S. and China could prove fleeting. U.S. President Donald Trump said he had made a trade deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping on rare earths and tariffs. “The U.S-China agreements appear to be marginal in nature and targeted at specific current ‘pain’ points. They do not, at least to us, represent a ‘grand bargain’ or a large-scale reset of the relationship,” said William Bratton, analyst at BNP Paribas Exane. Fourteen of the 16 major sectors declined, while the broader small-caps and mid-caps fell 0.1% each. Pharma index lost 0.6%, dragged by a 3.9% drop in drugmaker Dr Reddy’s Laboratories after its weight-loss drug faced regulatory setback in Canada. Cipla, which posted a profit beat, fell 2.5% after it announced that its global CEO Umang Vohra will step down, effective March 2026. Automaker Hyundai Motor India rose 2.4% after reporting better-than-expected quarterly earnings and strong outlook for its export business.

Man jailed after taking part in unnotified anti-immigration parade in Ballymena

Ryan Tyrie (41), of Willowfield Street in Belfast, also admitted disorderly behaviour in Ballymena on the same day. He also admitted 'jaywalking'. He was at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Thursday via video link from prison where he had been on remand. A prosecutor said an anti-immigration demonstration was held at Wakehurst Road in Ballymena. It was unnotified and more than 50 people moved off around 6.45pm, some carrying flags. The prosecutor said no notification form had been submitted to the Parades Commission. The court heard the procession had gone through Harryville. At several points during the course of the parade the defendant was shouting at the top of his voice repeatedly and gesturing for other persons present to block the road with him, said the prosecutor. He also made gestures and shouted towards a police vehicle which was recording the incident. At one stage at Waveney Road the defendant stepped onto the road causing a police vehicle to perform an emergency stop. The defendant continually stepped into the road causing traffic to have to brake sharply, it was said. The defendant was wearing distinctive clothing and had a distinctive facial tattoo, said the prosecutor. When interviewed the defendant said he didn't realise it was an illegal procession; and he denied, at that stage, the jaywalking and indicated he would continue to repeat the behaviour regardless of police actions. The court heard the defendant had previously been on bail but breached a bail condition that he was not to discuss immigration online. A previous court was told he breached a bail condition during an interview with 'Freedom Dad' on social media. One of Tyrie's bail conditions was 'not to engage with, post or stream on any social media site in respect of any issue related to immigration'. Tyrie told the earlier court he was interviewed about going to prison and if immigration was mentioned he had been out of the room. After viewing the social media post at the earlier court, District Judge Nigel Broderick said he was satisfied immigration was discussed on the footage which breached the defendant's bail. Back at Thursday's court, a defence barrister said Tyrie had spent around five weeks in custody on remand. The lawyer said the defendant "indicates to me that he is not against immigration and he wishes the court to know that". He had given people a lift and had no intent to cause any trouble, said the defence. The defendant was given a three months prison term and was fined £100.

Exide Industries postpones board meeting to approve Q2 results due to I-T survey

Battery maker Exide Industries Ltd on Thursday said its board meeting to approve second quarter and half-yearly results has been postponed due to the Income Tax department survey at its offices and manufacturing units in India. In a regulatory filing, the Kolkata-based firm said, "The Income Tax department is conducting survey at the company's offices and manufacturing units in India since October 29, 2025." The proceedings are underway and the company is extending its full co-operation to the department, it added. Subsequently, Exide Industries said the meeting of its board of directors scheduled to be held on October 30, 2025, "to consider and approve the unaudited Standalone and Consolidated financial results of the company for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2025 has been postponed to a later date". Saritow Spinning Mills to exit textile business, eyes warehousing venture

The Board of Directors of Saritow Spinning Mills Limited (SSML) has decided to permanently close its spinning mill operations and sell the company’s plant and machinery amid continued financial losses. The textile mill disclosed the development in its notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday. “The Board of Directors of Saritow Spinning Mills Limited, in its meeting held on October 30, 2025, has decided to permanently close the Company’s spinning mill operations, which were already suspended in 2024 due to continued losses, and approved a plan to sell the entire plant and machinery of the company,” read the notice. SSML shared that the market value of the plant and machinery at approximately Rs411.93 million. Moreover, the company plans to repurpose its factory buildings into warehouses (godowns) to generate rental income under an alternate business plan. “It was also decided to utilise the proceeds from the asset sale to partially refurbish the premises for warehousing, and to retire a portion of the company’s liabilities as well as augment working capital for the new business line,” read the notice. The Board decisions are subject to approval of the shareholders of SSML at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EOGM) scheduled for November 28, 2025, it said. Saritow Spinning Mills Limited is part of the Saigol group of companies. The company was set up in 1987 as a public limited company under the Companies Ordinance, 1984. It manufactures and sells yarn at its facility located in Punjab.

Indian rupee falls to fortnightly low on Fed’s hawkish jolt, outflows

MUMBAI: The Indian rupee slid to its lowest in two weeks on Thursday as outflows worsened the hit from a hawkish tilt in Federal Reserve policy, which sent the dollar and U.S. Treasury yields higher. The rupee closed at 88.6950 against the U.S. dollar, down 0.6% on the day, after touching a two-week low of 88.7375 earlier in the session. India’s central bank likely stepped in intermittently, via state-run banks, to limit the rupee’s losses but the intervention was not aggressive, traders said. “A lot of stop losses have been triggered in 88.40 to 88.50 zone leading to fresh highs in USD/INR,” a trader at a state-run bank said. Asian currencies were down between 0.1% and 0.5% after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell signalled that October’s cut may be the last one for 2025. Despite the guidance, money markets are currently pricing in a 68% chance of 25 basis point rate reduction in December, according to CME’s FedWatch tool. “Regardless of the jolt provided by Chair Powell overnight, we think the hurdle for not cutting in December is very high,” analysts at DBS said in a note. “Cutting rates so far has been easy; decision to cut much more will be fraught with difficulties,” they added. The dollar index was steady in Asia trading after jumping 0.4% in the previous session. The U.S. 2-year Treasury yield was at 3.598% after rising 9 basis points on Wednesday. Elsewhere, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the U.S. will lower tariffs on China to 47% from 57% earlier after meeting his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in South Korea.

Gillette India’s quarterly profit rises on demand for grooming products

Gillette India posted an 8% rise in profit for the quarter ended September 30 on Thursday, on sustained demand for its grooming products like shaving razors and creams. The company, owned by Procter & Gamble, posted a profit of 1.44 billion rupees ($16.38 million), compared with 1.33 billion rupees a year ago. With self-care habits rising in popularity in India, demand for grooming products has been healthy. India’s Dabur posts quarterly profit miss as consumption tax cuts disrupt sales The grooming segment revenue, which accounts for more than 80% of the company’s total revenue, increased nearly 3% to 6.66 billion rupees during the quarter. Meanwhile, revenue from its smaller segment, oral care, rose 9%. “We delivered balanced growth across the portfolio”, the company said in a statement. Its total revenue from operations rose 4% to 8.11 billion rupees. Shares of the company were up 0.5% after the results.

Indian companies have received licences for importing rare earth magnets from China, India’s foreign ministry said on Thursday, signalling some easing in Beijing’s export control. Rare earths, a group of 17 elements that play a crucial role in cars, planes and weapons, have become one of China’s most powerful tools of leverage amid its trade tensions with the US. India’s foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced the licencing decision at a media briefing but did not provide details on the companies that got approval, the number of licences issued or the conditions attached. While rare earth elements are not scarce, China maintains a near-absolute dominance over the technology that processes the minerals into magnets. Beijing has tightened exports of these processed materials to major economies, including India, this year in an effort to reinforce its geopolitical influence. Earlier in the day, China agreed to delay the introduction of its latest round of rare earth export controls as part of a deal agreed between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, but previous restrictions remain in place. Beijing significantly expanded its rare earths export controls this month to include five new elements and added dozens of refining technologies to its control list. The rules also require foreign producers that use Chinese materials to comply with China’s export-control system. China’s export control announcements on October 9 also included new restrictions on electric battery equipment and industrial diamonds. The battery-related restrictions triggered a rush among global customers ,including India’s Reliance Industries, to accelerate shipments before the early-November deadline. China’s export controls on rare earths have highlighted the risks of being dependent on one supplier. Psihološke radionice pomogle ženama da povrate vjeru u sebe i svoje potencijale

Udruženje Roditelji je, u partnerstvu sa Ministarstvom socijalnog staranja, brige o porodici i demografije, tokom protekle godine realizovalo projekat „Osnaživanje žena i djece žrtava nasilja”, kroz koji je porodicama pružena raznovrsna podrška – psihološke seanse, pravne konsultacije i edukativni programi. Posebno značajan segment projekta bile su psihološke radionice osnaživanja žena, koje su se održavale jednom sedmično, u kontinuitetu od sedam mjeseci. Kroz siguran i podržavajući prostor, učesnice su imale priliku da rade na sebi, ojačaju svoju unutrašnju snagu, razviju zdraviju sliku o sebi i izgrade stabilnije emocionalne temelje. Radionice je vodila psihološkinja Nikolina Boljević, stručnjakinja sa dugogodišnjim iskustvom u radu sa ženama koje se suočavaju sa izazovnim životnim okolnostima. „Učešće u psihološkim radionicama koje je vodila Nikolina pomoglo mi je da zastanem i iskreno sagledam sebe – svoje misli, ponašanja i odluke. Shvatila sam u kojim situacijama reagujem iz navike ili straha, i kako mogu da pristupim sebi s više razumijevanja, a manje osude. Najvažnije – osjetila sam da nisam sama“, kaže Ana, jedna od učesnica. Dodaje da su joj radionice donijele više vjere u sebe i sposobnost da se sa svakodnevnim izazovima nosi „smirenije i svjesnije“. Za nju, kao i za druge učesnice, program ima vrijednost koja nadilazi lični rast:„Ovakvi programi doprinose stvaranju zdravijih odnosa u porodici i zajednici. Svaka žena koja nauči da bude blaga prema sebi, postaje i izvor podrške drugima.“ Jasmina ističe da su radionice pomogle ženama da prepoznaju sopstvenu vrijednost i razviju samopouzdanje. „Sve žene koje su rođene i odrasle na Balkanu bile su, direktno ili indirektno, pod uticajem pogrešnih obrazaca ponašanja i uvjerenja. Mi smo generacija koja ima zadatak da taj lanac prekine – i zato su ovakve radionice od ogromnog značaja.”, poručuje Jasmina. Učešće u radionicama je prvenstveno uticalo na jačanje samopouzdanja i samopoštovanja. Učesnice su imale priliku da prisustvuju interaktivnim vježbama koje su imale za cilj prepoznavanje njihovih vrlina i potencijala, postavljanje granica, kako se nositi sa stresom i konfliktima i razvijanje pozitivnog unutrašnjeg dijaloga. Ljiljana, koja se programu priključila pri kraju, kaže da joj je podrška koju je dobila bila dragocjena: „Bilo je kratko, ali korisno. To iskustvo me je držalo i davalo snagu za novi dan, posebno jer nisam bila u mogućnosti da priuštim individualni savjetodavni rad.“ Sedmomjesečni ciklus radionica pokazao je da kontinuirana psihološka podrška ženama u kriznim situacijama ima višestruki značaj – ne samo za lični razvoj i emocionalnu stabilnost, već i za osnaživanje cijelih porodica i zajednica. Zajedništvo i podrška – ključni za oporavak i lični rast žena Tokom sedmomjesečnog rada sa grupom žena koje su prošle kroz različite životne izazove, psihološkinja Nikolina Boljević ističe da je još jednom potvrđeno koliko su podrška, razumijevanje i osjećaj zajedništva važni u procesu oporavka i ličnog razvoja. „Svaka radionica bila je prostor u kojem su žene, korak po korak, vraćale povjerenje u sebe, učile da prepoznaju svoje granice i vrijednost, te da njeguju odnos prema sebi sa više nježnosti i poštovanja,“ kazala je Boljević. Kako navodi, najdragocjeniji dio procesa bilo je svjedočenje promjeni koja se dešava iznutra – trenutku kada žene počnu da vjeruju u sebe, prepoznaju svoje snage i umjesto straha biraju hrabrost i samoprihvatanje. „Takva promjena ne ostaje samo lična – ona se prenosi i na porodicu, djecu i zajednicu, stvarajući krug podrške koji nastavlja da raste“ dodaje ona. Program, koji je trajao sedam mjeseci, pokazao je da osnaživanje žena nije kratkotrajan proces, već put koji zahtijeva kontinuitet, strpljenje i vjeru – u sebe i druge. Boljević je zahvalila svakoj učesnici na iskrenosti, povjerenju i hrabrosti da se upusti u taj proces lične promjene i rasta.

Dealz future in Ireland confirmed as 68 stores close in UK

The future of Dealz in Ireland has been confirmed as the company shuts down 68 stores total and two warehouses across the UK. It comes after Poundland, the name of Dealz in the UK, was acquired by an investment firm in June 2025 - Polish-based retail group Pepco owns Poundland and Dealz. By the end of September, they had closed around 57 stores, with an additional 11 placed on hold. People have spotted several other Poundland locations holding significant sales, with discounts hitting up to 40% off. However, a spokesperson for Poundland confirmed that their current restructuring plan only applies to stores in the UK and those in the Republic of Ireland will remain unchanged. It was previously stated that following the overhaul, they expect to operate between 650 to 700 stores across the UK, which is down from the 800 locations that existed before the restructuring. A representative for Poundland said: “Customers will be able to take advantage of significant savings as these stores prepare for closure in the days ahead. “The reductions of up to 40pc will see items marked down in price until they're sold and cover all the stock in each store from homewares to groceries and clothing to health and beauty.” Poundland's UK country manager, Darren MacDonald, also stated: “We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we're determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.
