AFLPA blasts AFL over ‘disproportionate’ move to stand down Geelong midfielder Tanner Bruhn

The AFL Players Association have taken aim at the AFL over the league’s “premature and disproportionate” decision to stand down Geelong midfielder Tanner Bruhn for the duration of his rape case. Bruhn had sexual assault charges against him dropped on Tuesday after a key witness admitted to lying. The 23-year-old will now return to pre-season training and attempt to resurrect his career after missing the entire 2025 season. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Bruhn had been stood down by the AFL since he was officially charged by police in February. But that fact was not known, given there was a suppression in order in place that prevented naming Bruhn. The rape and intentional sexual touching charges, regarding an incident in February 2023, were formally withdrawn at Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday. Both Bruhn and his co-accused have always maintained their innocence. The suppression order, which was lifted today, prevented the AFL, Geelong and AFLPA making comment throughout the case. Geelong said Bruhn was unavailable earlier in the season with a finger injury before being removed from the injury list altogether. “The AFL confirms that, following notification in early 2025 of several criminal charges being brought against Geelong Football Club player, Tanner Bruhn, that Mr Bruhn was stood down by the AFL from playing pending the hearing and determination of those charges,” the AFL said in a statement on Tuesday. “Mr Bruhn was stood down from playing at any level of Australian Football (including AFL and VFL), which remained in place until the charges were withdrawn, which formally occurred in Court today. “Suppression orders preventing publication of any details in relation to this matter have previously prevented the AFL or any party making public comment.” Unlike the NRL or Football Australia, the AFL does not have an official no-fault stand-down policy, where players charged with serious criminal offences are banned from playing. NRL player Jack de Belin and A-League Men defender Ruon Tongyik are among those to have been stood down, then later returned to their respective careers. De Belin had sexual assault charges dropped in 2021 while in March this year Tongyik was acquitted of rape. Richmond star Noah Balta was given a four-match club-imposed ban after pleading guilty to assault, but played a game before his trial in April. The AFLPA, the players’ union, lamented the “long and flawed process” and demanded a change to the framework. “Tanner was entitled to the presumption of innocence from the outset and throughout. It was clear to us that standing Tanner down would be premature and disproportionate,” the AFLPA said in a statement. “The Collective Bargaining Agreement requires the AFL and AFLPA to resolve a Code of Conduct including proper processes and a sanctioning framework. “This unfortunate set of circumstances is further evidence that such a framework is critical for the game. We remain committed to this work in the best interests of the players and Australian football.” Geelong confirmed Bruhn will be able to return for pre-season with the Cats. The 23-year-old will attempt to build on the 36 games he played for Geelong across 2023 and 2024, after a previous 30 for GWS in 2021-22. “Geelong Football Club acknowledges the finalisation of legal proceedings in the Geelong Magistrates’ Court today, where all charges in relation to Tanner Bruhn have been withdrawn,” Geelong said in a statement. “... While legal proceedings have been ongoing, the club has provided professional welfare to Tanner during this time and will continue to do so. “Tanner will return to the football program for the start of pre-season training.”

Dharmendra Played Double Role In This Film Starring An Ex-CM — The Leader’s Only Bollywood Film As LEAD

The “He-Man of Bollywood,” Dharmendra, ruled Hindi cinema through the 1960s and 1970s with his charm, intensity and commanding screen presence. Over the years, he delivered countless hits and became a household name. Among his many memorable performances, there was one film where he starred opposite a former Chief Minister. The film in question is Izzat, released in 1968. He took on a double role. In the film, Dharmendra shared screen space with Jayalalitha, who later became one of India’s most powerful political figures. She served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for over 14 years across multiple terms. She first assumed office in 1991 and held her final term until her passing in 2016. Her only film, Izzat, where she was paired with Dharmendra, stood out not just for its story but for the legendary actor’s layered portrayal of two very different sons bound by fate and blood. The film revolved around an arrogant Thakur, played by Balraj Sahni and the fallout of his actions. Dharmendra played both his sons, each with distinct pain and purpose. As the story unfolded, the versatile actor switched effortlessly between the fire of revenge and the vulnerability of love, showcasing the range that made him a legend. The film also featured Tanuja, whose performance added another layer of depth to the storyline while also balancing Dharmendra’s intense dual act. His chemistry with the leading lady, Jayalalithaa, was one of the film’s highlights. Around 19 years old at the time, she brought a rare blend of grace and innocence to her role. On November 10, 2025, Dharmendra was hospitalised with critical health concerns. The 89-year-old actor was reportedly placed on ventilator support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close observation. Amid growing speculation, Esha Deol took to X to reassure fans that the veteran actor is recovering well and requested everyone to continue praying for his health.

When Tesla flicked the switch on its Full Self-Driving FSD (Supervised) technology in September, Australians became the first right-hand-drive market in the world to get the controversial feature. But experts warn the system is “dangerously misleading” and unregulated, putting lives at risk. Car Mechanical Services CEO, Co-founder and long-time government safety adviser Raffy Sgroi said Tesla’s branding gives drivers a false sense of security. “The term ‘Full Self-Driving’ is dangerously misleading,” she said. MORE: Tesla enables full self driving in Australia Co-Founder and CEO of Car Mechanical Services Raffy Sgroi. Picture: Supplied “Despite its name, this system is not autonomous. It requires constant driver supervision, hands on the wheel, and eyes on the road. Yet the branding encourages a false sense of security, one that directly contradicts the system’s actual capabilities.” At midnight on September 18, Tesla rolled out FSD (Supervised) across Australia and New Zealand, with more than 50,000 local owners having access to the latest technology. The over-the-air update allows the cars to steer, brake, change lanes merge, and navigate intersections and roundabouts with minimal driver input, but under Australian law, the driver must remain fully attentive at all times. Australia is one of just a handful of countries, Elon Musk’s Tesla has rolled out FSD in. RELATED: Elon Musk responds to Aussie journo Ms Sgroi has spent more than two decades advising government on regulatory compliance, says Tesla’s approach is unlike anything she has seen before and that Australia has effectively allowed an unfinished technology to operate without oversight. ‘STARK DISCONNECT’ “In my 20-plus years advising governments on safety protocols and regulatory compliance, I have never seen such a stark disconnect between a product’s name and its functional reality,,” she said. She compared the tech industry’s “move fast, and break things” attitude to “a recipe for tragedy” when applied to public roads. Copied URL to clipboard Tesla finally enables full self driving in Australia Elon Musk’s Tesla has just dropped a huge... Tesla insists the technology remains a level 2 advanced driver-assistance system, not an autonomous one. “Drivers must maintain proper control of the vehicle at all times,” the company said in its Australian release. Ms Sgroi said Tesla’s global approach to development, learning through the live driver data, means Australians are effectively participating in an experiment every time they turn it on. “What troubles me deeply is that Tesla has effectively turned public roads into a testing laboratory. Every FSD-equipped vehicle is collecting data, learning, and yes, making mistakes,” she said. MORE: Tesla’s Full Self-Driving puts Aussies at risk Reporter Danielle Collis testing Tesla's Full Self Driving (Supervised). Picture: Supplied “But these are not mistakes made on closed courses with professional safety drivers. These are errors happening at 110 km/h on highways, in school zones, and at busy intersections, often where families are simply trying to get to work or school.” She said the system’s braking and automation capabilities risk “automation complacency”, where drivers trust the car too much and become distracted. “Here’s what concerns me most: we are deploying beta-level technology that fundamentally misunderstands human psychology,” she said. Ms Sgroi believes the rollout is especially risky because the system was trained primarily on American roads. “Australia’s right-hand drive configuration introduces an entirely different set of variables. Our roundabouts, unique intersection designs, and road signage conventions differ substantially from the environments where this system received most of its training data,” she said. “I’ve seen first-hand how systems optimised for one market can fail catastrophically in another without proper adaptation.” MORE: Tesla faces class action over Full Self-Driving failures Tesla has tested "Full Self Driving" in Australia. Picture: Supplied Adding to this, Ms Sgroi said that under current laws, if a crash occurs while using FSD, the driver remains responsible, which leaves drivers vulnerable. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? “When an FSD-enabled Tesla crashes in Australia, who is responsible? The driver who was told to remain vigilant but was lulled into complacency by the system’s name? The company that pushed an unfinished product to public roads? The state government which licenses drivers? The federal government that approved vehicle imports?,” she said. “This legal and ethical grey zone is unprecedented in automotive history.” The federal government is currently drafting an Automated Vehicle Safety Law, expected to come into effect in 2026, which will establish national standards for automated driving systems. However, Ms Sgroi said “it’s taking too much time to develop the National framework adequately” and that the Federal government isn’t listening to industry-based insights. “It needs to be developed before goals are formally announced (as is currently the case),” she said. Reporter Danielle Collis testing Tesla's Full Self Driving (Supervised). Australia is allowing deployment of technology not adequately trained for local conditions, on a road network unlike that used for development, with wildlife and weather hazards unique to our country, and essentially no regulatory framework to ensure public safety. Shreyas Iyer Shares Beach Photo After Surviving Life-Threatening Spleen Injury

India batter Shreyas Iyer has shared his first public update since surviving a life-threatening spleen injury, posting a picture from a serene beach vacation that instantly went viral among cricket fans. The 30-year-old, who sustained a lacerated spleen during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, expressed gratitude for the support and prayers he received during his recovery phase. Also Read: Who Will RCB Retain And Release Ahead Of The IPL 2026 Mega Auction?“Sun’s been a great therapy. Grateful to be back. Thanks for all the love and care,” wrote Iyer on Instagram, marking a positive step in his long road to recovery.Wearing a blue bucket hat and reflective sunglasses, Iyer looked relaxed and content — a stark contrast to the tense scenes from Sydney just weeks earlier when the cricketer’s health scare left the entire cricketing community on edge. The Moment That Changed Everything in SydneyThe harrowing incident occurred on October 25, 2025, during the third ODI between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. While fielding, Iyer sprinted forward to take a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He successfully completed the catch but landed awkwardly on his abdomen.Initially believed to be a rib injury, scans later revealed a lacerated spleen with internal bleeding, a potentially fatal condition that required immediate medical intervention. The BCCI issued a statement confirming the seriousness of the situation, stating that Iyer had undergone a minor procedure and appropriate medical management to control the internal bleeding. The swift response by the on-ground medical team, followed by expert care from Sydney-based Dr Kouroush Haghigi and Indian specialist Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, proved crucial in stabilizing the player. Iyer was kept under close observation in a Sydney hospital before being discharged to continue his recovery under medical supervision.Suryakumar Yadav and Team India Rally Behind IyerThroughout Iyer’s hospital stay, India captain Suryakumar Yadav kept fans updated about his condition, reassuring everyone that the Mumbai batter was “doing well and in good spirits.” Teammates and cricketing peers flooded social media with messages of support, reflecting Iyer’s immense popularity within the dressing room and among fans.India went on to win that Sydney ODI — their only victory in the three-match series they lost 1–2 — but the celebrations were muted, with most players’ thoughts firmly on Iyer’s well-being.A Grateful Comeback and the Road AheadAfter weeks of uncertainty, Iyer’s beach photo came as a wave of relief for Indian cricket fans. His post, captioned with gratitude and positivity, symbolized both physical and emotional healing. The Mumbai-born batter, known for his elegant stroke play and leadership composure, is expected to be out of competitive action for at least three months. Consequently, he has not been named in India’s squad for the two-Test series against South Africa beginning November 14 in Kolkata. However, sources suggest that Iyer is eyeing a comeback during the home white-ball series against New Zealand, scheduled to follow the South Africa tour. His return, though, will depend entirely on medical clearance and match fitness.A Fighter’s Spirit: From Surgery to SunlightIyer’s journey over the past few weeks has been nothing short of inspirational. From being rushed off the Sydney field in visible pain to now smiling by the sea, the transformation highlights his determination and resilience. While physical recovery remains a priority, the mental strength displayed by Iyer — in facing a rare and severe sports injury — underscores why he is one of India’s most admired modern cricketers. The beach photo, symbolizing calm after chaos, resonated deeply with fans who flooded his post with thousands of supportive comments. Many hailed his return to the public eye as a sign that he is not just healing, but ready to reclaim his place in Indian cricket when the time is right.

‘Imagine Your Card Declines At Matha Take’: Gurdwara In UK Installs Card Machine, Sparks Fun Reactions

When we visit places of worship, be it a temple, church, mosque or gurdwara, it is common to make offerings or donations. Usually, people carry some cash for this purpose. But in today’s digital world, that is not always the case. Many of us have found ourselves reaching into our wallets only to realise we don’t have any money. Now, a Gurdwara in the UK seems to have solved that problem in a truly modern way. They have installed a card payment machine, letting devotees make donations with just a tap. Yes, you read that right, a contactless way to give your offering. Clip Shows Card Machine Inside Gurdwara In a short video posted on Instagram, the camera captures a peaceful scene inside a Gurdwara in England. You can hear the sacred hymns being read in the background while the camera slowly pans toward the front of the shrine. Sitting right there, on a shiny golden surface, is a card payment machine. The video then zooms in, clearly showing the device placed neatly at the front. On-screen text reads, “Gurdwara in England too advanced man.” Another line below adds a funny twist: “Imagine your card declines at matha take,” followed by a laughing emoji. They’ve had this at the Martindale Gurdwara in Hounslow, UK since 2019.” A person joked, “Great idea. Goes straight into the account, imagine having to carry sacksssss of coins to the bank lol.” Someone else added, “To be honest, it makes sense. Saves time going to the bank. That’s if you can even find a local branch open these days.” And one user couldn’t help but laugh, saying, “Just hope your card doesn’t decline.” A curious user asked, “Do people get to choose how much they want it to be?” while another wondered, “They take bitcoin?”

Aussie legend Greg Chappell pinpoints biggest flaw in plan for Marnus Labuschagne to open in Ashes

Legendary former captain Greg Chappell has called on Australia to pick a specialist opener for the Ashes instead of installing Marnus Labuschagne at the top. Jake Weatherald is pressing for a Test debut in Perth after a hot 18 months in the Sheffield Shield as a dashing opener for Tasmania. Australia are weighing up whether to keep allrounder Cameron Green at No.3, and have Labuschagne partner veteran Usman Khawaja as he did in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Dropped for the West Indies tour after the WTC defeat to South Africa, Labuschagne is a certainty to return after an outstanding start to the summer for Queensland. It is just a matter of where he bats and how much Australia decide to tinker with their XI. “I hope the powers that be know (what the team will be),” Chappell said on Tuesday. “Opening’s an important role and specialists generally have done better than people that have been press-ganged into the role. “Opening is a role that you need to want to do. “Most openers are pretty passionate about getting in there and batting first.” Chappell doesn’t buy the argument that No.3 batters can be batting early, anyway, so the role isn’t dramatically different from opening. The 87-Test star believes star first drop such as his older brother Ian and Ricky Ponting wouldn’t have been as successful had they opened. Chappell has also voiced his concerns about Australia’s ageing team, with Green the only member of the Ashes squad aged under 30. Even potential debutant Weatherald just turned 31. The match will be a day-night spectacle, with a ticket ballot to be launched for the first time in Australian cricket.
