Chennai Weather: Heavy Rain And Thunderstorms Forecast This Weekend As IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Chennai is experiencing a brief respite with light rainfall, but the weather is expected to intensify sharply this weekend. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advance Yellow Alert for Sunday and Monday (November 16 and 17), advising residents to remain vigilant and prepare for heavy showers and thunderstorms. The increased activity is attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, which is fueling the active Northeast Monsoon phase over the South Peninsula.Widespread Rain Forecast Across Tamil NaduThe IMDs official statement predicts a significant spell of moisture and rainfall across the southern states, with the second half of November anticipated to be particularly wet.Regional Outlook: Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Islands, the weather department stated.Heavy Rainfall Warning: Isolated heavy rainfall is highly likely over Tamil Nadu on November 17 and 18.Thunderstorm Activity: Thunderstorms with lightning are expected over Tamil Nadu on November 17, and over Kerala and Mahe on November 12 and 13.Specific Coastal Alerts: Isolated heavy rain is also predicted for coastal districts and adjoining interior regions, with specific warnings for districts like Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Cuddalore on November 17.Chennai Weather OutlookWhile the immediate weather outlook for Chennai suggests moderate rain, the city must prepare for a significant intensification of showers this weekend as the Northeast Monsoon strengthens. Today, November 13, the sky will remain mostly cloudy with moderate rain expected at intervals. This pattern is set to continue with generally cloudy skies and light rain likely on Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15. The crucial shift begins on Sunday, November 16, which is under a Yellow Alert, predicting partly cloudy skies with chances of a few showers or brief thunderstorms. The weather is expected to peak on Monday, November 17, also under a Yellow Alert, with a generally cloudy sky bringing moderate to heavy rainfall. Finally, on Tuesday, November 18, cloudy conditions will persist, accompanied by moderate rain. This pattern of intensification is primarily driven by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.Southern Districts AlertForecasters note that the influence of the cyclonic circulation will be particularly strong over parts of South Tamil Nadu, where moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue in isolated places, especially in Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, and Tirunelveli districts.ALSO READ | Trump Signs Funding Bill, Ending Historic Government Shutdown And Guaranteeing Federal Back Pay

Stock markets stay flat amid highly volatile session

Mumbai, Nov 13 (PTI) Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty started the trade on a weaker note on Thursday but later quoted flat in a highly volatile trade amid mixed global cues. The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 138.36 points, or 0.16 per cent, to 84,328.15 in the morning trade. The broader NSE Nifty slipped 38.50 points or 0.15 per cent, to 25,837.30. But, later both the benchmark indices were oscillating between highs and lows. Among the Sensex firms, Tata Motors’ commercial vehicles business, Eternal, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Mahindra & Mahindra, HCL Technologies, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, ITC, Tata Consultancy Services, Bharat Electronics Ltd were the laggards. On the other hand, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel, Trent, Larsen & Toubro and State Bank of India were the gainers. “The market needs more triggers to take it to new record highs. With the outcome of the Bihar polls largely discounted by the market, there are no political triggers that can push the market significantly higher. The reverse might happen if the actual poll results turn out to be different from the exit polls,” VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Ltd, said. Vijayakumar noted that the important economic factors that have to be watched for is a possible India-US trade deal removing the penal tariffs and reducing the reciprocal tariffs. The decline in October retail inflation in India to 0.25 per cent indicates the possibility of a rate cut from the MPC in December. But the monetary policy transmission turning weak has become a challenge for the RBI. “In the near-term the market is likely to consolidate and then respond to triggers when they happen. Positive triggers happening simultaneously can lead to short-covering pushing the market sharply up. But sustained uptrend would be challenging given the FII selling and elevated valuations, he added. Broader Asian equities were trading on a mixed note. Shanghai’s SSE Composite Index and Japan’s Nikkei 225 benchmark were trading in a positive zone while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and South Korea’s Kospi were quoting in red territory. The US markets finished higher in overnight deals on Wednesday. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.13 per cent to USD 62.63 per barrel. Meanwhile, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 1,750.03 crore for the third straight session on Wednesday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) remained net buyers of stocks worth Rs 5,127.12 crore, according to exchange data. On Wednesday, the BSE Sensex rallied 595.19 points to settle at 84,466.51. The 50-share NSE Nifty climbed 180.85 points to close at 25,875.80. PTI HG HG DR DR

Cattle smuggler injured in encounter in UP's Ballia, arrested

Ballia (UP), Nov 13 (PTI) A cattle smuggler from Azamgarh district was arrested after being injured in an encounter with police in Ballia, officials said on Thursday. The accused was allegedly involved in smuggling cattle from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar. During the encounter near Narsinghpur Math canal, he sustained a bullet injury in his left leg and is currently undergoing treatment at the Ballia District Hospital. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kripa Shankar said the incident took place around 11.15 pm on Wednesday when a police team from Narhi station reached the Narsinghpur Math canal area after receiving a tip-off about cattle smugglers’ movement. “When the accused found himself surrounded, he opened fire on the police team with intent to kill. In retaliatory firing carried out in self-defence, the police managed to overpower and arrest him,” ASP Shankar said. The injured smuggler was identified as 26-year-old Ajay alias ‘Pattharkatta’ (Silpkar), a resident of Kothwa Jalalpur village in Azamgarh district. During interrogation, Ajay allegedly confessed that on November 12, he had loaded 24 cattle into a truck for illegal transport to Bihar but managed to escape during a police checking drive near Kutubpur Ujiyar. Russian Foreign Minister says Moscow "still ready" for Putin-Trump summit

Moscow [Russia], November 13 (ANI): Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has indicated that Moscow is ready to resume preparations for a Russia-US summit meeting over Ukraine, state media reported.A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin planned in the Hungarian capital of Budapest did not materialise last month. “We are still ready to hold the second Russian-US summit in Budapest, if it really relies on the work on Alaska results. The date has not been agreed. Russian-US contacts continue,” Lavrov said as reported by TASS which cited his interview with Italy’s Corriere della Sera, which the Russian state media said has refused to publish it. As per a report in the Financial Times Russia had sent a memo to the US listing hardline demands, which forced officials in Washington to cancel the Putin-Trump Budapest meeting.According to TASS, Lavrov said the newspaper report contained many instances of false information. The Russian Foreign Minister claimed the memo was meant to remind the US side of what had been discussed and agreed upon between the Russian and US leaders during their meeting in Alaska earlier in August.Lavrov said that the newspaper “distorted the essence and the sequence of events to blame Moscow and misdirect Donald Trump of the path he has offered, i.e. a path toward a sustainable and lasting peace rather than an immediate ceasefire, where Zelensky’s European sponsors, who are obsessed with an idea of taking a breather and flooding the Nazi regime with weapons to continue the war against Russia, are seeking to drag him into.”On October 16, Trump had a phone conversation with Putin and both leaders agreed to meet in Budapest, Hungary for a second summit this year. Both sides had confirmed that Lavrov and the US Secretary of State Rubio would coordinate ahead of the meeting. The two leaders had earlier this year in August met in Anchorage, Alaska. (ANI)

No Foreign Hand, Says Sheikh Hasina On Claims Of US Involvement In Bangladesh Upheaval | Exclusive

Former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina has dismissed suggestions that the United States played an active role in supporting groups that sought her removal from power under the pretext of “restoring democracy”. Speaking to CNN-News18’s Manoj Gupta in her first extensive conversation since leaving Dhaka, Hasina said Bangladesh has maintained “good relationships with successive US administrations” and that there is “no reason to believe” Washington or other foreign powers were directly involved in the country’s political developments. Though she acknowledged that the country’s interim leader, economist Muhammad Yunus, had built a network of influential supporters in the West, Hasina said many of those admirers had mistaken his economic reputation for democratic credibility. “While Yunus has cultivated a network of influential Western admirers from his work as an economist, those who admired him mistook his economic theories for democratic credentials. Now, this illusion is fading, and those admirers are increasingly seeing him for what he is: an unelected head of state who has placed radical extremists in his cabinet, dismantled Bangladesh’s constitution, and stood silent while minorities have been oppressed,” she said. Hasina also said US President Donald Trump, with whom she said she had “very good relations,” had publicly expressed his dislike of Yunus. The ex-PM added: “If Westerners think Yunus is a friendly face, they are being fooled. In fact, he is being used as the frontman by the extremists in his administration, who are pursuing a sectarian, score-settling, and socially regressive domestic agenda.” Hasina’s remarks come amid continued debate over the extent of foreign involvement in Bangladesh’s political transition and the role of Western governments in shaping perceptions of democracy in the country. However, the former prime minister gave a clean chit to the United States, noting instead that the Western powers were blinded by the “illusion” Yunus put up.

Miss India At 17, Bollywood Queen In Her 20s, And Now India's Wealthiest Actress!

That radiant smile, once the heartbeat of Bollywood’s romance, still enchants millions. Juhi Chawla’s life has been a symphony of dazzling highs and humbling lows, yet she has met each moment with poise, perseverance, and an enduring grace that time itself admires. Juhi Chawla was born on November 13, 1967, in Ambala, Haryana. From a young age, she harboured a passion for modelling and acting. At just 17, she won the Miss India title, instantly attracting widespread attention. Following her coronation, film offers began to pour in. Juhi Chawla made her acting debut in 1986 with the film Sultanat. Though the film failed at the box office, she remained undeterred and continued honing her craft. She briefly worked in South Indian cinema before turning her focus to Bollywood. Juhi Chawla’s breakthrough came with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, opposite Aamir Khan, which propelled her to stardom overnight. Over the years, Juhi Chawla delivered numerous hit films including Pratibandh, Bol Radha Bol, Aaina, Ishq, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, and Darr. Her infectious smile and bubbly persona won audiences over, and she proved her versatility in comic roles as well, earning praise for films such as Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, Deewana Mastana, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and Yes Boss. Juhi Chawla’s personal life is equally noteworthy. She met her husband, Jay Mehta, in 1992 while filming Kaarobar with Anil Kapoor. At the time, Jay Mehta had lost his first wife in a plane crash. Initially friends, their bond gradually deepened, with Juhi Chawla supporting him through his grief. They married in 1995 and have two children, daughter Janhvi and son Arjun. However, the lead-up to their wedding was marked by profound sorrow. Wedding invitations had been sent across the country and abroad, and thousands were expected to attend, given Jay Mehta’s prominence as a businessman. But just before the ceremony, Juhi Chawla’s mother passed away, leaving her devastated. Her mother-in-law offered comfort, saying, “If you don’t want a grand wedding, we won’t. If you want to focus on your career, then do that. Do what makes you happy. Because you are my daughter, not my daughter-in-law.” Consequently, Juhi Chawla’s wedding was a simple affair. She often reflects how life gave her a second mother. Throughout her career, Juhi Chawla has received numerous accolades, including two Filmfare Awards, along with several nominations for major honours. She garnered critical acclaim for films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, and has been recognised repeatedly for her impeccable comic timing. Beyond acting, Juhi Chawla is also a successful entrepreneur and a business partner of Shah Rukh Khan. In the 2025 Rich List, she was named India’s wealthiest actress. According to the Hurun India Rich List 2025, Juhi Chawla holds a net worth of Rs 7,790 crore.

Mercury continues free fall in Kashmir; Srinagar coldest at minus 2.1 degrees

Srinagar, Nov 12 (SocialNews.XYZ) Temperature across Kashmir Valley continued to drop further on Thursday as Srinagar city recorded its coldest night at minus 2.1 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam hill station recorded minus 3.8 degrees, and Gulmarg had 0.5 minimum temperature. The Meteorological (MeT) Department officials said that the minimum temperature is expected to drop further in the coming days in the Valley. “As expected, the minimum temperature dropped to minus 2.1 degrees Celsius in Srinagar today, which is the lowest this season so far. The night temperature is likely to drop further in the coming days,” the MeT officials said. The weather department has forecast generally dry weather from November 13 to November 15, generally cloudy weather towards the afternoon on November 16 and then dry weather between November 17 to November 19. Jammu city recorded 10.2, Katra town 9.5, Batote 2.9 and Bhaderwah one degree as the minimum temperature. Due to the present cold wave in the Valley, people have started wearing woollens, including the traditional tweed overgarment called the ‘Pheran’. An earthen pot woven in willow wicker filled with live charcoal called the ‘Kangri’ is kept under the ‘Pheran’ to ward off cold during the winter months. People with a history of chest ailments, elders and children have been cautioned by local doctors not to expose themselves for longer periods, as cold air inhaled by people with lower immunity causes chest-related diseases. The 40-day-long period of harsh winter cold called the ‘Chillai Kalan’ begins each year on December 21 and ends on January 30. During this period, most water bodies in the Valley freeze either partially or completely, depending upon the severity of winter cold. Drinking water taps also freeze during the Chillai Kalan, and locals have to battle with small fires lit around the water taps to de-freeze them. During extreme winter cold, even the day temperature rarely rises above 7 degrees Celsius in the Valley. Source: IANS

Flag hoisting ceremony: Construction agencies asked to vacate Ram Temple premises in Ayodhya

New Delhi, Nov 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Preparations are in full swing for the grand flag-hoisting ceremony at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya, scheduled for November 25, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the saffron dhwaj (flag) atop the spire of the Lord Ram Temple. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has directed all executing and construction agencies to vacate the premises by November 15, allowing time for elaborate decorations to begin. According to temple officials, this year's celebrations will be even more magnificent, with all subsidiary temples dedicated to Lord Mahadev, Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, Suryadev, Maa Bhagwati, Maa Annapurna, and Sheshavatar adorned alongside the main Ram Temple. The rituals and flag-hoisting ceremonies will be conducted by 108 Acharyas from Ayodhya, Kashi, and South India, under the leadership of noted Kashi scholar Ganeshwar Shastri. The saffron flag, bearing the symbol of the Sun, represents the eternal energy and divine radiance associated with Lord Ram, signifying victory, virtue, and enlightenment. Earlier on Monday, while speaking to reporters, Ram Temple Construction Committee Chairman Nripendra Mishra said, "The discussions and preparations are focused on the Prime Minister's programme. We are ensuring proper arrangements for his visit so that he can tour the temple premises and review all ongoing construction works. The plan will be finalised based on suggestions from the Prime Minister's Office." He added that the main temple structure and six subsidiary shrines have already been completed, marking a major milestone in the decades-long temple project. "Most of the work is completed. Now the attention is being paid to the beautification of the temple premises, including the plantations," Mishra said. On the upcoming flag-hoisting event, Mishra noted that technical preparations are being carefully overseen. "We want the flag to be hoisted atop the temple's main spire, and for that, certain technical requirements are being examined. Experts from the Defence Ministry, who specialise in such work, are assisting to ensure that the ceremony on November 25 goes smoothly without any issues." The event, expected to draw dignitaries, saints, and devotees from across the country, marks another historic moment in Ayodhya's transformation into a grand spiritual and cultural centre. Army Was Stuck Between Constitution & Chaos, Intervention Meant Bloodshed, Says Sheikh Hasina | Exclusive

In her first extensive conversation since leaving Dhaka, former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has described the military’s position during last year’s August upheaval as an “impossible situation”, caught between defending the constitutional government and preventing mass casualties on the streets. Speaking exclusively to CNN-News18’s Manoj Gupta, Hasina said that by early August, the protests that began over civil service quotas had morphed into violent unrest driven by “radical agitators”, turning the capital into a battlefield where the chain of command, public order, and the state’s authority were under threat simultaneously. Hasina said the scale of street violence left the Army in a bind: upholding the Constitution meant pushing back an inflamed mob, but intervention risked bloodshed on a scale Bangladesh had not seen in years. “The military was faced with an impossible situation: defending a constitutional government against overwhelming mob violence while avoiding any further loss of life,” she said. According to her, discussions with the military leadership revolved entirely around preventing a “complete breakdown in law and order”, safeguarding civilians, and ensuring her family’s safety. She did not directly attribute her exit to the Army Chief, General Waker-uz-Zaman, emphasising instead that the military was attempting to walk a tightrope in a collapsing environment. “Whether or what kind of external pressure influenced decisions, I cannot say,” she added, stressing that her criticism was not aimed at the army but at those who exploited the chaos. Hasina maintains that her departure was a matter of survival once violence surged and state structures came under strain. She said remaining in Dhaka would have endangered not just her but “those around me”. Only later, she claimed, did the “premeditated nature” of the power shift become apparent, pointing to Muhammad Yunus’s rapid assumption of authority, the immunity granted to perpetrators of last summer’s violence, and the dissolution of the inquiry her government had set up. But the military’s dilemma, she insisted, lay at the heart of the crisis. The constitutional government could not be defended without confronting the mobs; confronting them risked escalating casualties at a moment when international scrutiny was high and foreign actors were watching Bangladesh closely. Despite her criticism of the current regime, Hasina was careful not to accuse the Army of betrayal, instead portraying them as officers trapped in a historic moment where every option carried grave consequences. Her appeal, she said, was only that Bangladesh must return to “constitutional rule through free, fair, and inclusive elections” so that the military is never again placed in a situation where defending the elected government risks mass violence. She warned that without elections, Bangladesh risks slipping towards a hybrid or extremist-influenced system, and urged India and regional partners to press Dhaka for an electoral roadmap.

Trump Signs Bill to End Longest US Shutdown

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump signed a bill Wednesday to end the longest government shutdown in US history -- 43 days that paralyzed Washington and left hundreds of thousands of workers unpaid while Republicans and Democrats played a high-stakes blame game. The Republican-led House of Representatives voted largely along party lines to approve a Senate-passed package that will reopen federal departments and agencies, as many Democrats fume over what they see as a capitulation by party leaders. Trump lashed out at Democrats as he put his signature to the bill later in the Oval Office, urging Americans to remember the chaos when voting in hotly contested US midterm elections in a year's time. "Today we are sending a clear message that we will never give in to extortion," said Trump, surrounded by gleeful Republican lawmakers including House Speaker Mike Johnson. Johnson had earlier pointed the finger at the minority party in a withering floor speech before the vote. "They knew that it would cause pain, and they did it anyway," he said. "The whole exercise was pointless. It was wrong and it was cruel." The package funds military construction, veterans' affairs, the Department of Agriculture and Congress itself through next fall, and the rest of government through the end of January. Around 670,000 furloughed civil servants will report back to work, and a similar number who were kept at their posts with no compensation -- including more than 60,000 air traffic controllers and airport security staff -- will get back pay. The deal also restores federal workers fired by Trump during the shutdown, while air travel that has been disrupted across the country will gradually return to normal. Trump falsely accused Democrats of costing the country $1.5 trillion. While the full financial toll of the shutdown has yet to be determined, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that it has caused $14 billion in lost growth. - 'Not backing away' - Johnson and his Republicans had almost no room for error as their majority is down to two votes. Democratic leadership -- furious over what they see as their Senate colleagues folding -- had urged members to vote no and all but a handful held the line. Although polling showed the public mostly on Democrats' side throughout the standoff, Republicans are widely seen as having done better from its conclusion. For more than five weeks, Democrats held firm on refusing to reopen the government unless Trump agreed to extend pandemic-era tax credits that made health insurance affordable for millions of Americans. Election victories in multiple states last week gave Democrats further encouragement and a renewed sense of purpose. But a group of eight Senate moderates broke ranks to cut a deal with Republicans that offers a vote in the upper chamber on health care subsidies -- but no floor time in the House and no guarantee of action. Democrats are now deep in a painful reckoning over how their tough stance crumbled without any notable win. Democratic leadership is arguing that -- while their health care demands went largely unheard -- they were able to shine the spotlight on an issue they hope will power them to victory in the 2026 midterm elections. "Over the last several weeks, we have elevated successfully the issue of the Republican health care crisis, and we're not backing away from it," House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told MSNBC. But his Senate counterpart Chuck Schumer is facing a backlash from the fractious progressive base for failing to keep his members unified, with a handful of House Democrats calling for his head. Outside Washington, some of the party's hottest prospects for the 2028 presidential nomination added their own voices to the chorus of opprobrium. California Governor Gavin Newsom called the agreement "pathetic," while his Illinois counterpart JB Pritzker said it amounted to an "empty promise." Former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg called it a "bad deal.

Bonds in the Headlines: What You Need to Know

Bonds in the Headlines: What You Need to Know

Bonds tend to be taken for granted by the general public. Just before I sat down to write this piece, I was listening to the local all-news radio station and noticed that neither bonds nor interest rates were mentioned in its market report. The announcer noted that Nvidia stock was under pressure. The program listed the levels of the S&P 500, Dow Jones, NASDAQ, and TSX indices, as well as the prices of gold and oil. That’s understandable. Stock indices, oil, gold, and cryptocurrency are more glamorous and attention-grabbing than bonds. Also, individual bonds are primarily an institutional market. Most trading is executed by institutional brokers on behalf of pensions, mutual funds, and other large capital pools. When was the last time your neighbor told you to buy a “hot” bond? Still, the fact that bonds don’t get much media coverage doesn’t mean they aren’t vitally important. There’s a lot of buzz around gold, but the price of gold has minimal real-world impact on most Americans or Canadians. Bonds, however, affect everyone—whether they realize it or not. When bond prices change, so do their yields to maturity—essentially the effective interest rate. And interest rates influence nearly every aspect of daily life. Bonds represent governments borrowing money to fund what tax revenues don’t cover. In the United States, the Federal Reserve sets the benchmark overnight interest rate. In Canada, it’s the Bank of Canada. In late October, the Bank of Canada reduced its policy rate from 2.5 percent to 2.25 percent. The Bank’s objectives are to maintain low inflation and maximize employment. When inflation is the primary concern, rates are raised to slow the economy. When growth is sluggish and unemployment rises, the Bank cuts rates to stimulate activity. This process is known as monetary policy. However, monetary policy is a blunt tool. Once inflation picks up, it can be hard to rein in. And central banks have sometimes overcorrected by raising rates too high or keeping them elevated too long, leading to recessions. Today, many Western central banks are caught in a bind. Post-pandemic inflation remains high, yet economic growth is weak. People in both the United States and Canada are acutely aware of how rising grocery prices and elevated unemployment are eroding their standard of living. The longer the maturity of a government bond, the less control the central bank has over its yield. When I was managing bond portfolios, it was accepted that while the central bank controls overnight lending rates, the market sets the price and yield of 30-year bonds. By the five-year mark, central bank influence largely disappears. And bond yields influence mortgage rates. The yield curve—a graph plotting interest rates (vertical axis) against bond maturities (horizontal axis)—shows this relationship clearly. The spread between short- and long-term bond yields can vary widely. In December 2009, following the financial crisis, 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds yielded 3.7 percentage points more than three-month T-bills. In May 2023, they yielded 1.88 percentage points less. Typically, longer-term bonds yield more to compensate investors for greater default risk and price volatility. A one-point rise in yield may not affect a T-bill much—but it could cut the value of a 30-year bond by around 15 percent. Mortgage rates are based on interest rates—something many people are now confronting as they renew at sharply higher monthly payments after years of historically low rates. Those ultra-low rates helped drive the housing boom until 2022. The current high-rate environment has reversed that trend, with condo prices plunging in some cities. Even renters aren’t immune. If your landlord has a mortgage, rising rates may translate into higher rent. The same applies to your line of credit, car loan, and credit card debt. We should all pay attention to bond yields. They affect nearly every part of our economic lives—personally and collectively. Interest rates are, in essence, the price of money.

Shefali Shah Reveals Producers ‘Hard-Negotiate’ With Actors: ‘Nobody Ever Has The Budget’ | Exclusive

Shefali Shah has often opened up on the lull she witnessed in her career. Early on, the film industry typecast her and put her in age-inappropriate roles. In Waqt, she played Akshay Kumar’s mother when she was all of 28. Soon, offers of playing mothers started flowing in, so much so that she had to refuse a bunch of film offers for several years. But everything changed in 2019 when the first season of Delhi Crime released. The industry once again took note of her and her performance won immense acclaim. Now, speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Shefali states that despite starting her career with a bang, for a long time she didn’t see the highs she had anticipated. “My first film was Satya. I had a seven-minute role in it but it left a very deep impact. So, I learnt very early on that it’s not about the length but the strength. But sadly, in the kind of cinema that used to be made, there was no space for anyone apart from the hero, the heroine and the villain. Another other character was a supporting character,” she tells us. Before Delhi Crime had released, Shefali had lost the hope of getting do a meaty role – the reason being the ageist nature of Bollywood. “I wasn’t 18 or 20 or even 30. Anyway, roles for women actors were hard to come by, so for a woman like me who’s in her 40s, I had thought that there would be absolutely no roles for me. But then Delhi Crime happened and because of that, stuff changed. I started getting offered parts which were leads and parallel leads,” she recalls. While doors opened for her, navigating the film industry, according to Shefali, is still no cakewalk. Money continues to be a complex topic. But she chooses to look at the silver lining and expresses that she’s happy to be in a space today where she can ask for a seat at the table without having to overthink it. “After that, I got Jalsa, Darlings and Human. The moment that positioning changes, you’re also in a position to ask for what’s rightfully yours. Till then, it’s like you tend to let things go,” she says. The Dil Dhadakne Do and Three Of Us actor further continues, “Having said that, it’s not like today, people don’t hard-negotiate. I’ve never met a producer who came to me and told me that they’re paying me extra money. They haven’t even ever told me that they’ve money. Nobody ever has the budget or money. But I can at least ask for basics and for the things I rightfully deserve. So, all that has changed.” But she’s quick to add that respect isn’t something that she never got even when offers were far and few. And today, along with it comes interesting scripts. “The other way to look at it is that the respect that I receive changed. But it would be unfair for me to say that because I always got the love and respect even though it wasn’t translating into work. So, Delhi Crime completely shifted the trajectory of my career,” Shefali remarks.

Sunny Deol lashes out at media: ‘Sharam nahi aati’

Mumbai, Nov 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, who is currently under severe emotional distress considering his father, Dharmendra's health, lost his cool at the media on Thursday. The actor was clicked outside his Juhu residence, as he walked a bit further, he turned around from his course, joined his hands, and calmly expressed his anger at the media and the prying cameras. He said, "You have a family, parents, and kids at home, and you are clicking videos like c******". Aren't you ashamed". He then looked at the media personnel stationed outside his residence. After expressing his anger, the actor walked off. The reportage over Dharmendra's health by certain sections of the media has drawn heavy criticism from the veteran actor's family and the general populace. The veteran actor was declared dead by a few sections of legacy media while he continued to receive treatment and responded to it. Considering the news came from established mainstream media houses, many artistes from the industry including screenwriting legend Javed Akhtar, who worked with Dharmendra on 'Sholay', and many political figures offered their condolences to the actor while he was still alive. As the veteran actor's family refuted such false reports, many media houses deleted the false news from their social media handles causing confusion among people. Earlier, on Tuesday, actress Hema Malini took to her social media, and wrote, "What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy (sic)." Prior to this, Dharmendra's daughter, Esha Deol confirmed that her father is stable and recovering in the hospital. Esha wrote on her official Instagram handle, "The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable & recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papas speedy recovery. Esha Deol (sic)". The veteran actor was discharged on Wednesday, and continues to receive treatment at home. Source: IANS

Export Promotion Mission, Credit Guarantee Scheme a game changer for entire ecosystem

New Delhi, Nov 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval of the Export Promotion Mission (EPM) — a flagship initiative announced in the Union Budget 2025–26 — aimed at strengthening India’s export competitiveness, particularly for MSMEs, first-time exporters, and labour-intensive sectors. The Mission, with a total outlay of Rs 25,060 crore for FY 2025–26 to FY 2030–31, marks a major structural reform by consolidating multiple export promotion schemes into a comprehensive, outcome-based, and digitally driven framework. “The Export Promotion Mission reflects a pragmatic and forward-looking vision for India’s trade sector. By bringing together financial and non-financial interventions under a unified framework, the Mission provides much-needed continuity, flexibility, and responsiveness to global trade dynamics. It will particularly empower MSMEs, who often struggle with access to affordable finance and compliance support,” said SC Ralhan, President, FIEO. The EPM is a timely response to the structural challenges that have long blunted the competitive edge of Indian exports — from limited access to finance and high compliance costs to weak branding and logistics bottlenecks. By directly tackling these issues, the initiative will help sustain export momentum, safeguard employment, and diversify India’s export base into new geographies and emerging sectors, Ralhan added. Under the mission, special focus will be given to sectors impacted by recent global tariff escalations such as textiles, leather, gems and jewellery, engineering goods, and marine products, thereby ensuring continued export orders and job protection. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) will serve as the implementing agency, managing all processes digitally through an integrated platform to ensure transparency, speed, and ease of access. According to Ralhan, the Mission’s digital integration with existing trade systems will transform the exporter’s experience — reducing paperwork, improving coordination, and ensuring timely disbursals. The Credit Guarantee Scheme for exporters will not only provide the collateral free lending but also infuse additional financial liquidity which is the need of the hour. Source: IANS
