Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Accountant & Financial Analyst plays a vital role in both the operational and strategic financial functions of the fintech startup. This entry-level position supports the senior accounting team with bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial data management, while also analyzing financial data, modeling business scenarios, and providing actionable insights to drive business growth.Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & OperationsBookkeeping and Transaction Management: Record daily financial transactions, including accounts payable/receivable, invoice processing, expense claims, and bank transactions in the company’s accounting software.Account Reconciliation: Maintain and reconcile all ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.Payroll Assistance: Support payroll processing by reviewing timesheets, calculating pay, and preparing payroll-related journal entries.Financial Documentation: Organize and maintain digital and physical financial documents such as receipts, contracts, and tax records, ensuring easy retrieval for audits or internal review.Assistance with Month-End and Year-End Close: Collaborate with senior accountants to prepare trial balances, journal entries, and supporting schedules for monthly and annual financial closings.Regulatory and Tax Compliance: Assist with sales tax filings, VAT/GST reporting, and preparation of documents required for local, state, or federal compliance.Expense Auditing: Review employee expense submissions for accuracy and policy compliance.Accounts Receivable and Payable: Monitor outstanding invoices, follow up with customers, and ensure timely payment to vendors.Support in Audit Preparation: Help prepare documentation and schedules required for internal or external audits.Continuous Process Improvement: Participate in the identification and implementation of process improvements to enhance efficiency in the accounting workflow.Financial Analysis & StrategyFinancial Modeling and Forecasting: Build, maintain, and improve financial models to forecast revenue, expenses, cash flow, and other key financial metrics.Budgeting and Variance Analysis: Assist in developing annual budgets, monitor actual performance against budgets, and analyze variances to recommend course corrections.Business Performance Analytics: Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to provide valuable insights to management regarding business performance, trends, and opportunities.Market and Competitor Analysis: Research industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor activities to assess their impact on company strategy.Data Visualization and Reporting: Prepare clear and compelling reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal stakeholders, leveraging tools like Excel, Tableau, or Power BI.Support Fundraising and Investor Relations: Prepare data and reports for pitch decks, due diligence documents, and investor updates.KPI Tracking: Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to the product and business model, providing proactive recommendations.Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with product, marketing, and engineering teams to align financial goals with business objectives.Scenario and Sensitivity Analysis: Evaluate the impact of strategic decisions or market events by running scenario, sensitivity, and stress tests.Regulatory and Compliance Review: Support senior management in understanding the financial implications of regulatory changes affecting fintech operations.Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in special projects such as pricing strategy, product launches, or operational efficiency initiatives.RequirementsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field (or in progress)Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar), MS Excel, and Google WorkspaceStrong proficiency in Excel and financial modelling techniquesExperience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar) and financial reportingKeen attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in data entry and record keepingStrong organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlinesBasic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)Excellent quantitative and analytical skills; capable of interpreting large datasetsStrong business acumen and interest in fintech trends and innovationExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to work effectively in a team and independently in a fast-paced startup environmentWillingness to learn and adapt to new financial technologies and processesDiscretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive company informationPreferred QualificationsPrevious internship or experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably in a tech or startup environmentFamiliarity with fintech products, digital payments, or blockchain technologiesExperience with cloud-based accounting tools and integrationsUnderstanding of tax regulations relevant to fintech operationsKnowledge of SQL, Python, or R for financial data analysis and automationExperience with fundraising, venture capital, or private equity reporting requirements
