Job title: Assistant AccountantLocation: Sydney/HybridDuration: PermanentJob type: Full-timeAvant is Australia’s leading medical defence organisation with a proud heritage of protecting Australian medical professionals for over 130 years.Avant Mutual is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Financial Control team and support our New Ventures organisation with their month-end and year-end requirements. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in our Sydney CBD office with a hybrid working arrangement.The key responsibilities include: Prepare month-end journals, including accruals, elimination entries, and adjustments. Preparation of Balance Sheet reconciliations, following up variances to resolution.  Prepare and process monthly commission workbooks, journals, and RCTIs. Reconcile third-party commissions and follow up outstanding items. Support the preparation and reconciliation process of the monthly GST returns for the Group. Support the preparation of statutory financial reporting and regulatory returns.  Assist with valuation testing, bookings, and model updates. Provide reporting and analysis for management and Finance Business Partners. Support implementation and testing of new product processes and finance initiatives Assist the broader financial control team as and where required with other responsibilities.   To be successful in this role you will have: Undergraduate degree with an accounting major. Working towards CA/CPA qualification. Intermediate Excel skills. Strong communication skills are essential and an ability to liaise with finance and non-finance professionals. A proactive and solutions driven mindset. Experience with D365 is advantageous but not essential. Experience in financial services is highly regarded but not essential. Why work at Avant?
