TitleAssistant ControllerFLSA ClassificationFull-time, ExemptReports toControllerSummaryCovenant College, a Christ-centered institution of higher education, is seeking a diligent and experienced professional to join our Finance team. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the college's financial operations, supporting the overall mission of the institution. As an Assistant Controller, you'll play a vital role in our finance department, providing leadership and contributing to a culture of financial stewardship and accountability.DUTIESFinancial reporting and analysisEvaluate existing process and develop strategies for continuous improvementAssist with development of annual budgetSupport staff accountant with daily bank account activity and necessary journal entries Perform daily and weekly general ledger reviews within the accounting softwareAssist with accounts payable as necessaryBackup the Senior Accounting Clerk in receiving student payments and answering student billing and payment questionsAdminister the College's credit card and employee reimbursement programsAssist the Controller with the month-end close processAssist the Controller in guiding work study students and delegating appropriate workFulfill such other duties as assignedPHYSICAL DEMANDSSitting: Sitting for the majority of the day, but free to stand and walk at will. Lifting: Lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) less than 5 lbs.POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORKThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.TravelTravel generally limited to travel for professional conferences/seminars a couple times a year or less, taking cash deposits to the bank, and other limited travel in carrying out the responsibilities of the position.RequirementsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferredA minimum of two years' previous work experience in a business office or financial management operationThe ability to work independently with general direction and supervisionStrong communication and analytical skills, personal initiative, discernment, mature judgment, and the ability to deal with confidential matters with appropriate discretion;Working knowledge of email, calendars, spreadsheets, and word processing applications (e.g. Google Apps, Microsoft Office)Not-for-profit and/or higher education accounting experience, and experience working with an integrated software platform such as Ellucian will be useful, but not requiredAdditional Eligibility RequirementsAn acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College.Must be able to assent to Covenant College's Staff Commitments.APPLICATION PROCESSInterested applicants should apply at https://www.covenant.edu/about/employment and provide a resume and a statement of faith or Christian experience.
