We specialize in fixed-term, deliverable-driven engagements – from interim leadership and generalist projects to niche technical expertise – handling project scoping, talent vetting and matching, contracting, payroll, and compliance so that our clients can focus on impact.High-Level OverviewThe client is delivering an investment advisory engagement in partnership with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The objective is to enhance the investment readiness and competitiveness of Ethiopia’s chemicals industry, strengthen the performance of priority state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and attract private capital into the broader industrial and manufacturing sector.The Consultant will support strategy development, conduct analytical assessments of SOEs, and help identify and validate investment opportunities within the chemicals value chain. The assignment is structured around three core phases: (i) subsidiary and SOE assessments, (ii) sector-level strategy development, and (iii) investment pipeline prioritization.Role and ResponsibilitiesRole: Strategy Consultant Direct Report: Project Manager Candidates Required: 1Key Deliverables: 1. Diagnostics & Analytical WorkConduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of priority SOEs in subsectors such as pesticides, caustic soda, and rubber.Lead data collection, stakeholder consultations, and business performance assessments.Validate commercial viability, growth potential, and opportunities for private-sector participation.2. Subsidiary & SOE Strategic OptionsIdentify operational challenges, strategic options, and investment pathways for each assessed SOE.Develop turnaround strategies and business case validations.Support identification of potential investors, operators, or partnership structures.3. Industry & Sector Strategy DevelopmentContribute to a forward-looking sector strategy for Ethiopia’s chemicals industry.Synthesize insights from subsidiary assessments and broader market analysis.Produce an actionable roadmap to guide investment mobilisation and industrial reforms.4. Investment Pipeline PrioritizationConduct a comprehensive assessment of investment opportunities (brownfield and greenfield).Map and prioritise opportunities aligned with Ethiopia’s industrial objectives and private-sector appetite.Develop structured recommendations for investment readiness and capital mobilisation.5. Project Management & ReportingDevelop analytical templates, data collection tools, and detailed workplans with the Project Manager.Prepare clear presentation materials, reports, and briefs for internal and client review.Coordinate regularly with project stakeholders and maintain progress tracking.RequirementsExperience Required:Strong consulting toolkit with demonstrated experience conducting strategic, analytical, and market assessments.Experience working in emerging markets, ideally in sectors linked to industrial or manufacturing development.Comfort engaging senior public- and private-sector counterparts (SOEs, government agencies, private investors).Familiarity with the chemicals sector (agro-chemicals, industrial chemicals, plastics, packaging, consumer products) is advantageous but not required.Technical Requirements:Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and synthesis skills.Ability to prepare concise, well-structured deliverables and client-ready presentations.Solid project management capability, including work planning and stakeholder coordination.Other Skills:Clear and confident communicator, comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders.Highly structured problem solver with strong attention to detail.Independent, resourceful, and able to manage ambiguity in fast-paced environments.Working ArrangementLocation: Remote, with potential travel to Addis Ababa for stakeholder engagements. Terms of agreement: Start Date: 1st December 2025Contracting Period:3 months (with possibility of extension)
